00:00Since the New Year, Jimmy, no time for the NABL featherweight title fight hard, fight clean, touch more.
00:09Multiple gold medal winners is a short list of course in recent years. We've had Ramirez, we've had
00:16Vassily Romanchenko, but also a short list are those who have gone on to become world champions after
00:23a shocking upset in their pro debut. So
00:26such is the case of Robesey Ramirez, but then again Henry Armstrong and Bernard Hopkins also lost their
00:34pro fights. Here we go. We are underway with Ramirez and Benitez. Through the years, what have you appreciated about Robesey?
00:41His ability to learn and get better as a pro, learning on the job.
00:44I've had the honor to call a bunch of his fights throughout his young career and I've watched him develop into a professional.
00:50He's a technician, absolutely, but he likes to hurt his opponents and lately he's been scoring knockouts.
00:55So look for him to land that big left hand.
01:00Had a spectacular one-punch knockout
01:03in June of 22 against the then previously undefeated Abraham Nova, who we just saw on our air last week.
01:10Which in hindsight looks even better. It does if you consider the way Nova has gone on in his career.
01:16Many thinking he got robbed of a win
01:19in Vegas.
01:22Of course, had a very close fight against O'Shaughnessy Foster. O'Shaughnessy Foster will defend his world championship next week on ESPN
01:30against Robson Conceicao.
01:33Another Olympic gold medalist.
01:36Of course, Stevenson tops that card next week. We'll also see a double Mason and Keyshawn Davis in action.
01:43You know, Tess, something I always appreciate from the high-level amateurs who turn pro is their eyes, their vision.
01:49How so? It's just their ability to see everything coming. Their control of distance. Look at his eyes.
01:55Eyes are wide open. He sees everything.
01:56He can see the top of his opponent's head all the way down to his feet.
01:59Every movement, every twitch that Benitez makes, Rabici takes that data, analyzes it, and utilizes it later on like that.
02:06Yep, as you saw him counter right away.
02:08Rabici
02:14Powers
02:15generally found in that left hand of Rabici Ramirez, using that right hand, the jab, the hook, to walk guys into his big left.
02:25Benitez is interesting when we discuss power on the other side, within only a 39% KO rate.
02:31But more power shown lately. Turned pro.
02:33He's only 16 years old down in Mexico. Turned pro. He's had two knockouts in his first 11 fights, and it starts to get his man strength
02:40underneath him. He's had seven knockouts in the next 12 fights. Good body shot moments ago from Rabici.
02:46Benitez got low. Rabici went around that elbow. Nice hooking shot off the backhand. Great punch for a southpaw
02:52to get to that liver.
03:00There he goes back to the body with the left hand.
03:04You notice the feet. Whenever you have the battle of the southpaw versus orthodox, it's always the battle of the lead foot.
03:10Generally, you want your lead foot to be on the outside of your opponents. That's where you're in the power position.
03:23By getting that angle, that power hand goes right down the channel, right down the middle, as you fire it off
03:28to the body. Coming to the end of round number one, the return of Rabici Ramirez after that shocking upset.
03:42This program may contain coarse language, mature subject matter, violence, and scenes that could be disturbing to some viewers. Discretion is advised.
03:52In that first round, Rabici Ramirez with 6 of 34 in total punches.
03:56Fran Benitez only landed 2 of 19. Had that awkward moment where it was off balance and his lead foot
04:04got tied up.
04:05He could have injured himself here. Speaking of footwork, we've mentioned that battle of the lead foot. You see Rabici keeping
04:11his foot on the outside and
04:14Benitez stepping forward, catching the tip of that foot and rolling his ankle. Thank God he did not get hurt. Bernardo?
04:20Yes, I spoke with Ricardo Cummings, who is Benitez's trainer, about that ankle. He says, nope, no issues according to the fighter.
04:42I like how
04:43Rabici is being very responsible when he's in front of Benitez. If he is in front of him and he does not have lead foot dominance,
04:49he's moving his head side to side. He's changing levels. He's being 3D with his defense. Up, down, in, out.
04:56You see Teofimo Lopez being stretched out.
05:00He is taped up, waiting to be gloved up as he will defend his world title
05:05following this co-feature 10-round action among the featherweights with Ramirez and Benitez.
05:12See that change up in speed there? Rabici keeping those hands out, keeping busy, touch, touch, touch, and then a looping shot over the top.
05:19Teo's waving, Teo's loose. Meanwhile, Steve Klaget laid out on the floor
05:25almost as if he's taking a nap.
05:27His first ever world title challenge, a 15-year veteran
05:31currently on a nine-fight win streak, 35 years old, late bloomer, and gets a world title shot against Teofimo Lopez
05:39later tonight.
05:41The level changes of Rabici are giving Benitez fits. He's changing levels with his head, throwing punches at different angles.
05:48Doing a really nice straight left hand to the chest. That was a beautiful counter jab to stop Benitez in his tracks.
05:58And we always talk about that lead foot dominance when it comes to southpaw orthodox position. Right there we saw a good
06:04example of why it's so important. One, you get to land your power punches, get your head off line.
06:08Two, you get to stay outside that foot and stay invisible. You stay to that weak side so the return fire doesn't get you.
06:19Oh
06:23There it is again, spins off.
06:28Able to get out of trouble.
06:30Footwork is offensive and places that left hand to the body. And test so that that was a level change down, punch over the top.
06:41Rabici dust ball putting on a master class of how a southpaw fights an orthodox fighter.
06:46There's a left hand finishing up that combination as well.
06:49It's in control early on as we come to the end of round number two scheduled for 10 here in Miami.
06:55Get it done in one with the LG Wash Combo all-in-one washer dryer. Wash and dry in two hours without transferring your laundry.
07:02And use up to 60% less energy with
07:08There's nothing chill about a hot sweaty line. Until of course
07:16There is. Mountain cold refreshment. The chill choice.

07:40Very strong second round from Rabici Ramirez as we begin.
07:45Round number three, but he was 14 of 43 and had this moment here Chris. Yeah, this is that level change I was talking about.
07:51Gets underneath the shot and he throws this overhand left which I thought landed but actually landed on the wrist.
07:55And that's why as the defending fighter you want to curl that wrist because the inside of your palm could do damage in your face.
08:00As you take that. Oh good combination from Rabici coming back with the left hand.
08:05Great start to round number three by the former champion.
08:10Good response there from Benitez. He better have one left uppercut, right uppercut. Benitez steps into the pocket.
08:16Trying to meet fire with fire. He's got no other choice. He's getting thoroughly outboxed and now getting hurt.
08:27Catches him on the way in that time. Yeah, but he just needs to be careful not to overextend himself.
08:32He's going to get countered with those hard shots over the top like that.
08:34Rabici creating his own space. Places the left hand.
08:39Very accurate tonight.
08:41Touching with that southpaw jab now on the inside.
08:44Covering up. Blocking that body work. Creating more space.
08:48Opened up with a very strong combination.
08:51Not surprisingly the Mexican Benitez has a very nice left hook to the body. They throws in combination.
09:04He's able to block that left hand to the body, but still with his butt on it.
09:08See the face of Benitez is starting to get worn out. That left hand was a little low. Gets the one and three punch combination
09:15from Ramirez.
09:16I like the change up in speeds. Yes. From Rabici. He's throwing one shot big then one, two, three. Nice and smooth.
09:25Showing a lot of game tonight. Tries to go underneath that uppercut to the body.
09:29Working his way to the inside, but taking on the way in. Once again, you talk about that patient touch, touch, touch
09:35from Ramirez that time.
09:37In that case, he actually used it defensively. Touch, touch, touch. And then as Benitez fired back, he took a step out
09:42and made a miss ever so slightly.
09:45See that amateur pedigree as well as all the experience that he's gathered at the championship level.
09:51Good left hook there by Benitez to the body and one to the head. Two punch combination from Benitez.
09:59Good pace here in round number three.
10:09Benitez has been woken up by that shot.
10:18Listen, if Benitez learned anything from the Espinosa fight, it's that Rabici can be vulnerable to the body. Yes.
10:28It was the majority decision Espinosa took the belt with back in December of last year.
10:35It was extraordinary 12th round that Espinosa had that night for 121 punches against Rabici.
10:44I managed to get the last room for 250 bucks. I booked the last room a week ago.
10:48I booked yesterday. Some sites panic you into booking their last room. Instead, Travago compares hotel prices from hundreds of sites
10:55so you can save up to $50 a night. Hotel Travago.
11:01This program may contain coarse language, mature subject matter, violence and scenes that could be disturbing to some viewers. Discretion is advised.
11:10Had 26 power punches connected in that last round and he started off on fire. It was a three punch combination.
11:18They followed it up. Yeah, I mean the story of the night for him is just variety and change ups right here.
11:231-2-3. Nice and easy. Lands a good right hook. Notices he lands a good clean shot and then here come the big ones.
11:28Boom, boom. Left hand. 9-2-3. Good shot. Buckles the knee. Comes back with a big left. Another big left and a right hand.
11:36Benitez just pushed him down to start round number four. That was a slip. You see the total punches
11:41through three rounds. Dominating form for the two-time Olympic gold medalist, the former recent
11:46world champion. What are they saying in his corner, Bernardo? He's my inside. I said this fight is about
11:51Robese's skill over his power. I want him to goad Benitez into making mistakes and then make him pay.
11:58Landed a good left uppercut moments ago.
12:06Beautiful step around there by Robese. I mean he's doing it. He's hitting you coming. He's
12:10hitting you going. Offensively he's in and out. Defensively he's in and out. Up and down.
12:17Very complete fighter tonight is Robese Ramirez.
12:27Right hand to the body from Benitez. Nice to punch through that guard.
12:38More and more this is turning into a fight where it looks like Ramirez
12:41could step on the gas and finishes at any time. He is in complete control.
12:46Benitez has no answer. He's been so accurate with his power punching.
12:5126 power punches in a round. Yeah, 26 of 55. Yikes. Yeah, when you start touching a 50 percent
12:59power punch percentage per round, seems like a stoppage is not far behind. He's at 47 percent right now.
13:08Good overhand right across the nose. That damaged nose of Benitez.
13:14That abrasion started about a round and a half ago.
13:23The counter left hand from Ramirez. Quick with the trigger as soon as Benitez threw that right hand.
13:33Nice jab off the hip. Beautiful. Just a little bit outside. Comes right back with the power jab.
13:39Step around. Cuffs the elbow. Steps around the body. Stays invisible. Splits the guard with a left hand.
13:54Benitez probably feels like he's fighting a ghost in there. He's been hitting nothing but air.
13:59Just creating a little space going back. Lands the right hand. You heard the clap and he's got a big smile on his face. In control of Robasi.
14:08Wendy's 99 cent small frosty is back. That's refreshing. Spoon it, slurp it, dip it. A frosty
14:16made with fresh Canadian dairy tastes good any way you eat it. It's a treat for you and your
14:20friends. It's a treat for you and your family. It's a treat for you and your family.
14:29Benitez.
14:38The Amazing Race Canada starts Tuesday on CTV.

14:51Round 5 here, Robesey Ramirez in top form.
14:57Remember if he gets through Benitez, the rematch will be around the corner against Espinoza.
15:03Many voted it the fight of the year.
15:05Ring Magazine had it as the upset of the year when Rafael Espinoza became featherweight
15:09champion.
15:11Mark Kregel, how do you have this scored?
15:13I don't mean to keep it to spanish, but it's a shutout, you know, for tempo and variety,
15:19such a stylish fighter.
15:21He's really in the Loma class, Loma has a better lead hand, he does more stuff with
15:26that front hand, but for lefts, I've never seen the variety of left hands that I'm seeing
15:32right now from Robesey Ramirez.
15:35So easy work for Ramirez early on, you can see the blood coming from the nose of Benitez,
15:42that is split.
15:43You know, this is the kind of performance you want to see from Ramirez, he's staying
15:59switched on.
16:00He has a guy in front of him that he's having his way with, but he's still dialed in, you
16:04see his eyes are open, he's changing levels, he's looking for his positions, having fun
16:10in there at times, but still working on his craft.
16:17Left hand coming right back at him again.
16:24Whenever Benitez gets a little too saucy, Ramirez cracks him to the right with the left
16:28hand.
16:29No, he got saucy there.
16:30Oh, there's that southpaw.
16:31Right on top of him, back to the jab, doubles it up, probing, looking for that left hand
16:46opportunity again.
16:49A lot of the defense that Robesey's showing, it's so subtle, you have to really be paying
16:54attention.
16:55Boxing is such a nuanced sport, and the way that Robesey's moving around this ring right
16:59now, it's a thing of beauty if you know what you're watching.
17:03Left uppercut starts off that three-punch combination.
17:12I have a feeling that Robesey's going to start picking it up, he's going to start putting
17:14some heavier leather on these shots, a little more mustard, hope to see if he can get this
17:20guy out of here.
17:33Tiafemo Lopez will be coming up next, his world title fight.
17:36We opened up the evening with Nico Ali Walsh in a very heated battle with a unanimous decision.
17:42That injury we saw in the sixth round, where Nico Ali Walsh was a one-armed fighter, we're
17:48going to have an update, a medical update on Nico Ali Walsh in just a moment as we come
17:52to the end of five.
17:54It could be disturbing to some viewers.
17:57Discretion is advised.
17:58Well, the scene we saw earlier tonight with Nico Ali Walsh, Muhammad Ali's grandson, was
17:59very unique.
18:00Look at his left shoulder.
18:01He's actually trying to pop it back into place.
18:02This was in the final round of his unanimous decision victory against Sona Akali.
18:03The update is, is that the doctors were able to reset Nico's dislocated left shoulder,
18:20and he is headed to the ER now for a follow-up, but that was a very unique circumstance we
18:25saw in that final round.
18:26Yeah, I mean, heavy drama.
18:27I mean, Akali was putting on a good performance toward the end of that fight, was coming on
18:30strong.
18:31Ali had the cushion of that knockdown from round three, but yeah, that shoulder popping
18:35out, that was ugly.
18:36It was early in the round as well.
18:37And now here we are in round number six, scheduled for 10, with Robesi Ramirez trying to get
18:42back to a world title opportunity after losing his belt to Rafael Espinoza.
18:48Rematch will be set for the second half of this year if he can keep this course against
18:54Brandon Benitez.
18:55He is dominating the fight to this point.
18:5779-24 connect advantage according to CoffeeBox.
19:01That face of Benitez is starting to resemble chopped liver.
19:06That's because of the accuracy of the power punching of Robesi Ramirez.
19:08He's landing 45% of his 145 power punches thrown.
19:14So the bridge of the nose busted up.
19:23Featherweight's vision has been read high.
19:27One of those worthy champions, has top name contenders, has a recent top prospect who's
19:33now a title contender in Shushu Carrington, who's been making the rounds ringside here
19:38tonight.
19:39Oh!
19:40Big counter over the top.
19:41Full counter with the left hand, as Benitez rushed in, fell forward, a little bit off
19:45balance, and Robesi made him pay for that.
19:48Oh!
19:49Benitez trying to pressure him.
19:53A little more vigor coming from Benitez from the start of this round, but it's just allowing
20:00Ramirez more openings to land those big shots.
20:03Benitez, by the way, only landing 13% of his total punches thrown.
20:12He's spirited, he's willing, he's just not effective.
20:15No, I mean, it's a skill level difference.
20:18Oh, there's a gap.
20:19Yeah.
20:34Robesi's gotten away from the body.
20:35He started out really concentrating the body early on in round one.
20:40Now he's been almost all to the head, as you see the marks all over Benitez's face.
20:47He landed 11 body connects in the first three rounds, and only three in the last two rounds.
20:53Only four in the last three rounds.
21:18Canada's favorite pizza.
21:21Happy Canada Day weekend, everybody.
21:26This program may contain coarse language, mature subject matter, violence, and scenes

21:36Round number seven, Joe Tessitore and Chris Alighieri ringside.
21:40Mark Crudall scoring the fight.
21:41Bernardo Osuna, our ringside reporter.
21:44Let's go back to that last round.
21:45What got your attention, Chris?
21:47I mentioned about these high-level amateurs, these guys and their judgment of distance.
21:50You see that stepping outside, taking a little shot on the hip, not even a legal blow,
21:55and landing right in perfect position to land that.
21:58Strafing left hand across the face of that damaged nose of Benitez.
22:05Bernardo?
22:06In Benitez's corner, Ricardo Cummings.
22:08First off, he wants him to get inside, but he doesn't want him to throw straight shots.
22:13He wants him to throw hooks to the ear so he can make Robbenji lose his balance.
22:19Look at the power punch numbers that CompuBox is tallying tonight.
22:23That third round was just massive by Ramirez.
22:26Had that big early combination, six-piece, that set the tone.
22:29Anytime you keep a guy to sub-ten, sub-double digits of power punches a round,
22:34you know your defense is on point.
22:39Like I said about Ramirez, it's so subtle, his defense.
22:42That's why he's always in position to counter.
22:58Like you said, though, Tess, Benitez is game.
23:00He's just completely outclassed.
23:13That short left hand on the inside, and then backs it up with an uppercut,
23:17as he does damage here halfway through round seven.
23:30Oh, took that angle and came with the sweeping right hand.
23:33That gives another angle, offsets it with a left hand.
23:36And look at that.
23:37And came with the sweeping right hand.
23:38That gives another angle, offsets it with a left hand.
23:41And look at the blood coming from the mouth and the nose of Benitez.
23:46He's picking his shots here in round seven, isn't he?
23:49Very creative openings being shown here by Ramirez.
23:53Stepping to one side, looks like he's going to throw to the left,
23:55throws to the right, steps to the other side, looks like he's going to throw to the right,
23:57throws to the left.
23:58A short left hand uppercut on the inside again.
24:02Just so much variety tonight, both offensively and defensively.
24:06Yes, the entire arsenal.
24:13Oh!
24:14What an uppercut!
24:15What an uppercut!
24:17Oh, the champ says, I'm back, folks!
24:23My, oh my!
24:25How about it, Robesi Ramirez!
24:30Spectacular power surge!
24:37Test, I was just about to say, the only thing missing is a spectacular finish.
24:42And right on cue, boom!
24:51He talked about the things affecting him before he lost the belt in that shocking upset.
24:57His father's health, his parents remaining in Cuba.
25:00He said, now he's focused, he feels great,
25:05and he's got to get back where he deserves to be.
25:08And that is fighting for what was his title.
25:12The rematch with Espinoza will be coming your way.
25:16And boy, did he look great tonight.
25:19Chris, take us through it.
25:20I mean, we were talking about the variety, both offensively, defensively,
25:23the subtle movements, but bang!
25:25Nothing subtle about that.
25:27Huge uppercut splits the guard.
25:29Benitez is coming forward, dips down, never sees the shot coming.
25:33Right on the money.
25:35Goes down like a ton of bricks.
25:37Bang! Splits the guard.
25:39Textbook stuff.
25:40Just like he was all night long.
25:42This was all fundamentally perfect from beginning to end from Robesi Ramirez.
25:47There was extra sugar on that eye candy.
25:50Look at this.
25:51Look at the legs.
25:53Look at the, just gone.
25:55There was no getting up from that.
25:57Do you like uppercuts? Do you like them?
26:01Because you just got served one.
26:02That's an all-timer.
26:04And did you watch the body of Benitez just crumble?
26:10Robesi Ramirez.
26:14Serving up the eye candy with the uppercut.
26:19Benitez was game, completely outclassed.
26:23Bloody, battered, bruised, and with his dispenser in the end.
26:29Ramirez just lifted his head to the sky with that uppercut.
26:33Man, oh man, was that something.
26:35Take us home, Mark Chinook.
26:41Ladies and gentlemen, here inside James L. Knight Center in Miami.
26:46This bout comes to a conclusion at 2 minutes, 46 seconds of round.
