00:16Chris, I want to get back to a couple points of conversation
00:19about this fight that we discussed earlier tonight,
00:21but specifically Teofimo Lopez.
00:23As you saw that ring walk, you saw the joy,
00:25you saw the happiness, the bounce in his step.
00:28When he has been at his best, the week of the Josh Taylor fight,
00:31it was complete chaos where there were so many doubters
00:34with some of the behavior out of the ring.
00:36That is not what we've seen this week.
00:37Yeah, I was actually a little concerned.
00:39I mean, Lomacheco's fight week was very similar.
00:41It was mayhem. It was chaotic.
00:43And it seemed that that's when Teofimo does his best work.
00:47And this week, he's been very calm.
00:48I wonder if he is going to be switched on tonight.
00:51Now, the other point is you say,
00:55don't dismiss Steve Klaget.
00:57There are reasons why he could be a live dog
01:00and make this a more challenging night
01:02than many expect against Teofimo.
01:04And we're seeing it already.
01:05He's already been able to pin Teofimo
01:06across the ropes a few times.
01:08He's got kind of frantic motion.
01:10He's getting inside.
01:11He's not getting hit with any big shots yet.
01:13And the way to beat a counterpuncher
01:14is to overwhelm them with volume.
01:15That's exactly what Klaget does.
01:20Teofimo, coming out to the left.
01:22Klaget, staying on top of him.
01:27Klaget's the kind of guy...
01:29That's a right hand to the body.
01:30Klaget's the kind of guy, he wants to put his head on your chest
01:32and bang away with both hands.
01:35Averaging 100 punches a round.
01:36But when it comes to CompuBox superlatives,
01:39look no further with Steve Klaget
01:42than what he did in November of 2023 in a fight
01:46when he produced 512 total connects
01:51and 417 landed power shots.
01:55Now, I know not everybody are boxing geeks out there like us on this crew,
01:58but the 500 total connect club,
02:01that is a line that you cross.
02:03That's rare air, Chris.
02:04Very, very rare group of people to get there.
02:07And that's super impressive.
02:09Did that recently.
02:10It's awesome.
02:10He's 35 years old.
02:11He's still throwing those numbers.
02:15And even tonight, I mean, he's landing more,
02:18especially with the jab, than I would expect this early on.
02:25Staying tethered to Tiofimo as he follows him right into that neutral corner.
02:35A lot of times, guys who are this aggressive and throw this many punches,
02:38they get you into that same game.
02:40You already see Tiofimo taking some of the power off those shots,
02:43trying to match the volume of Klaget,
02:46which I don't think is a good idea.
02:47He's going to have to beat the volume with power.
02:50Tiofimo just dug that left hand to the body,
02:52had a right hand moments before that.
03:03He's underneath, thrown between the punches,
03:05a right hand to the body again from Tiofimo,
03:07as he looks to probe underneath.
03:09Klaget trying to burrow his way in again as we come to the end of round number one.

03:56Well, it's only the weight of the nation.
04:09There's Steve Klaget, his first ever world title challenge.
04:12We've mentioned the 512 total punches connected on,
04:17and there it is, according to CompuBox,
04:19fifth highest figure in any 10-round fight
04:22in the history of that company tracking fights.
04:25Steve Klaget put it forth.
04:27Of course, we recall Tiofimo Lopez's only loss was to Cambosis,
04:32who also had a smothering style.
04:36Of course, Tiofimo was dealing with so much that evening,
04:39the major medical issue that he endured that night at Madison Square Garden
04:44with that shocking upset.
04:47So the punch stats in round number one
04:49are 16-10 connect advantage for the champ.
04:53You mentioned smothering.
04:55Klaget is very good at smothering his opponent,
04:57but still gets his punches off and generates some good pop on those shots.
05:02Nice body work there.
05:05Look for that left hand from Klaget.
05:07That's his best punch, whether it's high or low,
05:09but especially low to the body.
05:11He just hit a body shot the left hand moments ago there
05:13on the inside against Tiofimo.
05:15Tiofimo goes to the body himself.
05:17Tiofimo just targeted the body, landed three good, tricky body shots.
05:21Didn't slow Klaget down one bit.
05:28Already starting to see a little bit of frustration.
05:30Tiofimo not comfortable with the fight being fought at this distance.
05:35You have to get some respect and hit Klaget with something that makes him think twice.
05:38There's a left uppercut from Tiofimo as Klaget remains right on him,
05:42pinned against him and throwing punches.

05:49Now able to draw him straight back, trying to create space.
05:52Klaget just walks right with him.
05:56He's going to stay in that pocket and just keep throwing punches as best he can.
06:01Another thing about Klaget, a guy like this,
06:04can he take the shots?
06:05Well, he fights like this all the time so he's going to get hit.
06:07So he is very sturdy.
06:09Been stopped once in his seven losses.
06:11His record is 38-7-2 in his 15 years.
06:15But more recently he's been better on the back end of his career.
06:19He's on a nine fight win streak and seven of those nine are by knockout.
06:24You see some nice footwork from Tiofimo to get out of that corner.
06:28But Klaget staying glued to Tiofimo.
06:31Even with that good right hand.
06:33Tiofimo Lopez with that right hand and he comes back with it again.
06:36And another one.
06:37See, this is what he needs.
06:38Getting a little bit of shimmy in those legs from that right hand across the top.
06:41Tiofimo is a momentum fighter.
06:44Once he finds that momentum, he builds off of it.
06:48He's hyper-athletic as well.
06:50When he can showcase that, he is at his best.
06:52But you've got to have a little bit of room, a little bit of space to do so.
06:55Finding a home for that chopping right hand over the top.
06:58Being able to back Klaget up a few times with it.
07:01And the body work.
07:06Nice push off there from Tiofimo Lopez.
07:08Trying to place that right hand between punches was Lopez.
07:12That's the thing, Lopez needs space.
07:14Klaget wants the opposite.
07:15That's why you see him pushing off every so often with that left shoulder.

29:15And that same approach to walk 3 quarters away across the ring as soon as the bell rings and meet him.
