A single mum lives in a tent with her two children to be “close to the ground” – and says she prefers it to a modern “constricted” house.

Lucy Aura, 41, has spent the last five months living in a tent full time - after she says it became too expensive to rent a property as a single mum.

But the yoga teacher now says “nature was calling” her and she loves being “close to the ground” instead of being “constricted” in a modern house.

Brit Lucy, who is originally from London, lets her kids – aged five and seven – run around barefoot and loves having a campfire every night for “entertainment”.

00:00So, yeah, still living in a tent. I'm in a different spot now.
00:03Do you love camping life?
00:04Yes.
00:11I've been living as a single mother with my two children
00:14in a tent in Far North Queensland for the last six months now.
00:18We first moved into this tent due to the current rental crisis.
00:22But as we've continued on this journey,
00:24we've realised how much we really love living in this way.
00:28We spend most of our time together and we are fully immersed in nature
00:32and connected to the elements.
00:36Just sitting in a point in my life where I'm so proud of myself
00:40and I just wanted to share it with you.
00:42So, yeah, still living in a tent.
00:44I'm in a different spot now.
00:45So we've moved.
00:47So we've got some, a little bit of forestry, which is really beautiful.
00:52And I just made a fire with some seriously damp wood
00:56because we've had a lot of rain in the past, yeah, like week or so.
01:01So we've had some issues with flooding in our tent.
01:04And yeah, just really staying grateful.
01:07Are we grateful, guys?
01:08Yes.
01:09How grateful are we?
01:12Do you love camping life?
01:13Yeah.
01:27My nervous system was really struggling when we first moved into the tent
01:31and my practices were suffering.
01:33I've been practising and teaching yoga since before my children were born.
01:37And these practices are literally everything that gets me through my life.
01:42They make me feel safe in my body,
01:44allow me to do things that I wouldn't normally be able to do in my daily life.
01:48And they're really helpful.
01:49I've been practising yoga since I was a little girl.
01:52They're literally everything that gets me through my life.
01:55They make me feel safe in my body, allowing me to trust my journey.
02:00And they strengthen my nervous system and allow me to be the mother that I am.
02:05My nervous system is so strong now that I get out of my tent,
02:08straight onto my mat, and my children give me time and space
02:11and they play sweet little games around the fire.
02:15Living in a tent saves me so much money.
02:18The campsite is cheap rent and includes all bills.
02:21I have lots of money to spend on keeping these beautiful children healthy
02:26with organic food.
02:27We eat probably about 95% organic and we eat out in nature,
02:31which is so good for the nervous system.
02:33And I just did the washing up and I...
02:35Do you tell them that?
02:38Yeah, I do. I tell them that.
02:40Because I have to do it all on my own.
02:41So I'm doing the washing up and I'm also cooking and making the fire
02:45and looking after my kids.
02:46And yeah, just super proud of myself.
