00:00The EU signed a long-term security commitment with Ukraine, as President Volodymyr Zelensky
00:06met with the 27 leaders in Brussels.
00:11The Israeli military has released photos it claims prove a killed aid worker was a Hamas
00:17militant.
00:18Serbia and Kosovo talks are inconclusive once again, despite EU efforts.
00:31The European Union doubled down its support to Ukraine by signing a long-term security
00:36commitment with the country, as President Volodymyr Zelensky met with the 27 leaders
00:42in Brussels on Thursday.
00:45Security agreements with Ukraine is very important so that we can give the message that we intend
00:50to support Ukraine for as long as it takes.
00:53We want to be operational, we want to be concrete.
00:56The agreement is not a mutual defense pact, but formalizes the EU's commitment on supporting
01:01Ukraine.
01:03The pact comes as the EU is delivering the first package of military equipment to Ukraine,
01:08financed by Russian frozen assets.
01:12President Zelensky celebrated it, but would like things to move faster.
01:16It's very important for all of us, for all Ukraine, believe me.
01:24And of course we have to work on next steps.
01:28You always say that we are too quick, but we need the urgent things.
01:33Air defense, that is one.
01:35And of course all the packages, thanks to all the partners.
01:39What we had signed it or accepted, but we need them urgently on the battlefield.
01:45President Zelensky said he had no dialogue with Russia so far, but is looking forward
01:49to a second peace summit after the one held in Switzerland in mid-June.
01:54We have to find and to prepare this plan and to put this plan on the table.
02:00During months we don't have too much time, because we have a lot of, you know, a lot
02:07of wounded and dead people on the battlefield and through civilians.
02:14That's why we don't want to have this war during years.
02:19So that's why we want to prepare this joint plan, put it on the table to the second summit,
02:27second peace summit.
02:30After leaving the European Council summit, President Zelensky met with Jens Stoltenberg,
02:34the outgoing Secretary General of NATO, and also signed bilateral agreements on security
02:39with Estonia and Lithuania.
02:48North Korea has warned Russia not to endanger their relationship, as the Kremlin ramps up
02:55its partnership with Pyongyang.
02:57The comments come as a Russian foreign ministry official this month criticised Seoul over
03:02potentially supplying Ukraine war supplies.
03:08Earlier this month, Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un
03:36firmed up their allyship by agreeing to protect each other from foreign aggression.
03:41North Korea is also reportedly mulling an agreement to send military personnel to repair
03:46Russian infrastructure.
03:47Meanwhile, Russian media reports 10,000 newly minted Russian citizens were sent to the front
03:53lines.
03:57Formal talks on Moldova's accession to the European Union are underway.
04:02The discussions are being held as historic.
04:17Shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine in early 2022, the country applied for EU membership.
04:24Neighbouring Moldova, the poorest country in Europe, followed shortly after.
04:30The war sparked many Ukrainians to flee to Moldova, like Ola from near Odessa.
04:37She says being part of the EU is what's best for her daughter.
04:54But Moldova remains much under Russian influence.
05:22There's been no progress in talks in Brussels to forge an EU-backed agreement between Belgrade
05:34and Pristina.
05:35Speaking after meetings with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister
05:40Albin Kuti, Josef Borrell, the EU foreign policy chief, said that the European Union
05:46will continue to put all efforts and capacity to normalisation of relations between Kosovo
05:51and Serbia.
05:52The leaders of the two countries were in Brussels for talks to implement a European Union-backed
05:57plan to normalise ties.
05:59The discussions were as expected, as difficult as always have been, and in the end they were
06:08not a trilateral meeting.
06:12Kosovo was not ready for this.
06:15Kosovo was not willing to do this trilateral meeting.
06:19Serbia was ready to do it, but you need two to dance tango, and we need two to sit around
06:27the table in order to continue the dialogue.
06:30This has not been possible today.
06:33Today.
06:34Unfortunately, no progress in implementation of the agreement could be achieved today.
06:41Brussels has warned both Serbia and Kosovo that refusal to compromise jeopardises their
06:46chances of joining the bloc.
06:50As the UK prepares to hold a general election, the leading Conservative Party looks ready
06:56to lose to the opposition Labour Party for the first time in 14 years.
07:01A Labour victory would definitely be a step up for UK-EU relations.
07:07The EU will know that the Labour Party was fighting for the UK's continued membership
07:14of the EU.
07:15They know that.
07:17And they also know that the Labour Party doesn't have the same bizarre hostilities to the EU
07:24that the previous few governments have had.
07:30Despite calling for a re-referendum in 2019, Stammer has publicly hardened his approach
07:35and ruled out any return to the single market or customs union.
07:39I think the reason, yeah, is that they don't want to name things which could be lightning
07:45rods for criticism from the Conservatives or from certain elements of the more Brexit-supporting
07:50press in the UK.
07:53So I think they probably do have more ideas up their sleeve, but I'm not sure the party
07:57necessarily has decided exactly which ones it itself wants to go for in power.
08:02I think it will depend to some degree on the size of any majority it has.
08:07If the majority is smaller than expected, only 20 or 30 seats maybe, they'll be less
08:11willing to take political risks.
08:13When it comes to NATO, the Labour Party are as committed to the pact as their Tory predecessors.
08:19They have promoted a security pact between the UK and the EU, although the details on
08:24this remain vague.
08:25Experts have said that a Labour victory will largely mean that the new party will attempt
08:29to come to negotiations with a clean slate and make themselves more present in negotiations
08:34with the EU.
08:35I think Labour are really going to focus on demonstrating their presence in Europe and
08:40they are a different type of operation to the Conservatives. If you look at their rhetoric,
08:44there's a lot focused on meetings and presence and public engagement. That's really what
08:49this security pact is actually all about.
08:52If the Labour government make it into power, they could be set to negotiate a tricky renewed
08:57role for the UK in the European Union, having to appeal to both Brussels' requirements and
09:02large portions of its electorate who voted for Britain to leave the EU to start with.
09:09The Israeli military has released photos of what it says show a staffer with the aid group
09:15Doctors Without Borders wearing military fatigues at a gathering of Gaza militants.
09:22Fadi Al-Wadiyah was killed in an airstrike on Gaza City earlier this week while he was
09:27cycling to work at the charity's nearby clinic.
09:33Israel claims the photos prove Al-Wadiyah was a significant operative in the Islamic
09:39Jihad group and was involved in its rocket programme. The aid group has said it had no
09:44indication he was a militant.
09:48It comes as three airstrikes killed at least 18 people and injured several others in the
09:53crowded Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza earlier this week.
10:00The local hospital director said there were women and children among the killed.
10:09We went out and saw bodies and wounded martyrs, targeting a group of civilians who had no
10:17smoke in the military.
10:19We saw bodies and wounded martyrs.
10:25Elsewhere in Gaza, the stifling summer heat has raised health risks in refugee camps as
10:31the territory's ability to dispose of garbage, treat sewage and deliver clean water has been
10:37virtually decimated by war.
10:44Two military officials allegedly responsible for leading an attempted coup against the
10:51Bolivian government have been arrested.
10:54The three-hour uprising featuring tanks and troops storming the presidential palace was
11:00quickly foiled as its leaders did not receive opposition support to successfully topple
11:05government.
11:27Once the unrest simmered, left-wing Bolivian President Luis Arce stood from the presidential
11:33balcony in the capital and thanked those who protested against the coup.
11:38No one can take away the democracy that we have won at the polls and in the streets with
11:44the blood of the people, he said.
