00:00Four more talks on Moldova's accession to the European Union are underway.
00:06Only now we start to having a really democratic and free society and we want to maintain that.
00:12And European Union will make sure of that.
00:17The discussions are being held as historic.
00:20Shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine in early 2022, the country applied for EU membership.
00:28Neighbouring Moldova, the poorest country in Europe, followed shortly after.
00:33The war sparked many Ukrainians to flee to Moldova, like Ola from near Odessa.
00:40She says being part of the EU is what's best for her daughter.
00:45Of course I want my daughter to become a part of the EU, to live in the EU, to live in a
00:53developed country, a civilised one, to have a chance to study, to have a chance to speak freely.
00:59I really want that.
01:03And joining the EU is not a complete corruption.
01:08So it won't happen quickly, it will have to be done step by step, little by little.
01:15But Moldova remains much under Russian influence.
01:20We should also pay special attention to constructive dialogue with the East, with the Russian Federation,
01:26with Belarus, with our traditional partners.
