00:00Sunway Group and the delegation of the European Union to Malaysia have entered into a strategic
00:11partnership to advance a broad range of joint sustainability initiatives.
00:23The diplomatic mission of the world's largest trading bloc and representatives of one of
00:27Southeast Asia's leading conglomerates inked both entities' commitment towards a net-zero
00:33future at the landmark collaboration ceremony on Monday.
00:40Delegation of the EU to Malaysia Charged Affairs and Interim, Timo Guzman said the EU is glad
00:46to partner with Sunway Group to raise awareness on sustainable practices in Malaysia.
00:51We have worked with Sunway Group on a number of occasions over the past years and it has
00:58deeply impressed us how the Sunway Group in many cases has found ways to transform day-to-day
01:08practices, day-to-day operations within its scope into sustainable operations.
01:16And what the Sunway Group is doing with Desamentari, which is basically only a stone's throw away
01:23from where we are right now, is a good example for that.
01:27Sunway Group Executive Director of Chairman's Office Ong Pang Yen added that the partnership
01:32between the EU and Sunway reflects the spirit and importance of the United Nations Sustainable
01:38Development Goals, or UNSDG, in particular SDG 17 Partnership for the Goals.
01:47Financing SDG is identified as one of the critical areas if we are to move the needles in SDG.
01:56Can you imagine who wants to fund all these things?
01:59Corporations can't do it all.
02:01But thankfully, I must say, there are a lot of like-minded corporations and institutions around
02:06so we don't have to do this all by ourselves.
02:09We have to join hands so that we can achieve more together.
02:13EU delegation SDG 17 very clearly states developed countries must help developing countries because
02:20they have developed for so many years.
02:23That is their, I won't say obligations or responsibility, but that is very much something
02:28that we would appreciate from countries, rich countries, to help us reach this interim gap.
02:36Guzman and Ong signed a letter of intent to formalise this partnership at a signing ceremony
02:40in Sunway City, Kuala Lumpur.
02:43It was witnessed by Sunway Group CEO of Digital and Strategic Investments, Evan Chia and Embassy
02:48of Belgium in Malaysia, Deputy Head of Mission Perik Masol.
