Romen Bose, an ex-aide to Najib Razak, claims that members of Armada, the Bersatu youth wing, were once labelled as ‘Mat Rempits in suits’ due to their tendency to “ride roughshod” over government protocol.

Romen Bose's new book, Shattered Hopes offers an insider's perspective on the events that unfolded in the aftermath of the 2018 election, when Pakatan Harapan ended Barisan Nasional's six decades in power.

00:00Bersatu members were given the moniker Mutt Rumpits in suits soon after Pakatan Harapan
00:07took over the reins of government in 2018.
00:11In his book Shattered Hopes, author Roman Bose claimed that this was because young Bersatu
00:16members had the tendency to ride a roughshod over government protocols.
00:21Mutt Rumpit is a colloquial term popularly used to refer to Malay youth who take part
00:26in illegal street racing.
00:28Bose, a former aide of Najib Raza, also claimed that members of the civil service did not
00:34take too kindly to the conduct of several members from Armada, the Bersatu youth wing.
00:39He said government servants were reluctant to approve their projects and some did not
00:44even process the paperwork or payments.
00:47Bose said this was because Bersatu members were given a minuscule budget in the lead-up
00:51to the 14th General Election in 2018.
00:55This led to party leaders and their candidates having to use their own money to pay for political
01:00and election expenses.
01:02But the book claimed that their newfound political influence and power following GE14 saw Armada
01:08members behaving differently, to the point of being accused of ignoring government procedures.
01:15Bose's new book Shattered Hopes is now for sale.
