00:00If he wants to correct that, now's his chance to do it.
00:02I'm very clear about where we're on something.
00:04Well, do you know where these people come from?
00:05No, he's not answering the question.
00:06Do you know where they come from?
00:07You opposed it when I announced it.
00:09You literally opposed it.
00:12If you listen to people in the audience across the country
00:14more often, you might not be quite so out of touch.
00:17I understand why you're frustrated with our party.
00:20With me.
00:21I get it.
00:22But this is not a by-election.
00:25It's a choice with profound consequences
00:27for you and our country.
00:30And before you make that choice,
00:32think what a Labour government would mean.
00:36Can you afford to pay at least £2,000 more in tax?
00:39And why won't Keir Starmer be straight with you
00:43about what he wants to do?
00:45If you want your NHS back, you have to vote for it.
00:50If you want a growing economy, you have to vote for it.
00:53If you want more police on our streets,
00:56more teachers in our schools, you have to vote for it.
01:00If you want to end 14 years of chaos and rebuild our country,
01:05then that power is in your hands.
01:09After the recent allegations about political betting,
01:12how would you restore trust in politics?
01:16Rishi Sunak.
01:17Well, Sue, I completely share your anger.
01:20I was as frustrated as you are furious
01:22when I learnt about these allegations.
01:24That's why, alongside the Gambling Commission,
01:27we initiated our own internal inquiries into what had happened.
01:31And as a result of that, have suspended two candidates.
01:34And I've been crystal clear.
01:36Anyone who has broken the law, broken the rules,
01:39should not only face the full consequences of the law,
01:41I will ensure that they're booted out of the Conservative Party.
01:44Keir Starmer.
01:45Sue, thank you very much for your question,
01:47which I think is on a lot of people's minds,
01:49this question of respect and integrity in politics.
01:53And you have to lead from the front on issues like this.
01:56I think over the last 14 years,
01:58politics has become too much about self-entitlement
02:01and MPs thinking about what they can get for themselves.
02:04And one of the important choices,
02:07and the thing that I would like to do,
02:09if I'm elected prime minister, is to reset politics
02:12so that politics returns to public service.
02:15In relation to these gambling allegations,
02:18the instinct of these people to think the first thing
02:22they should do is try to make money was the wrong instinct,
02:25and we have to change that.
02:26But it is also a question of leadership,
02:29because this isn't just what's happened this week,
02:32last week in the gambling commission.
02:34We saw Partygate earlier in this parliament.
02:37The prime minister himself was convicted and fined
02:40for breaking the rules,
02:42which he brought in and imposed on everybody else.
02:44Keir Starmer talks about leadership in politics.
02:47That's what Sue's question was at,
02:48was a broad question about how to do that.
02:50I also think leadership means being straight with people.
02:54It means having the courage of your convictions,
02:56not changing your mind on every single position
02:59that you've taken and being upfront
03:00about what you want to do for the country.
03:02That's not what Keir Starmer is doing.
03:04He's not being honest with everyone
03:06about his plans to raise their taxes.
03:08He talks about integrity.
03:09I'm sorry, when you get convicted
03:11for breaking the COVID rules,
03:13which you imposed on the rest of the country,
03:16you really shouldn't be talking about integrity in politics.
03:19Will the welfare bill...
03:20The prime minister says he's going to do all these things.
03:22He's been in power for 14 years.
03:25Why has he only just thought of this
03:26with a week to go before the general election?
03:29You want to be in charge,
03:30but you've got nothing to say to people
03:31about what you would do about it.
03:33This election is about the future.
03:35We will cut the welfare bill,
03:37the growth in the welfare bill.
03:38It is unsustainable.
03:39We spend too much on it.
03:40I set out a plan to do so.
03:42Labour oppose all of it.
03:43So the choice for you is simple.
03:44If you want higher taxes and higher welfare,
03:47that's what Keir Starmer will do.
03:48If you want lower taxes and lower welfare,
03:50that's what I will do.
03:51Do not surrender our welfare system
03:54to the Labour Party and Keir Starmer.
03:55Good evening all.
03:57We're an island.
03:58Why can't we easily close our borders?
04:01Steve, the biggest threat to our borders at the moment
04:04is the very many people arriving by small boat
04:07over the channel.
04:09And there are record numbers.
04:11Since Rishi Sunak became prime minister,
04:1350,000 people have come across by small boat.
04:17And the government has effectively lost control
04:19of our borders.
04:20And that means it's not just a border security issue,
04:23it's actually a national security issue.
04:25We have made progress.
04:26The numbers have come down over the past 12 months
04:28compared to the 12 months before.
04:30But in order to fully solve this problem,
04:33you need a deterrent.
04:34We need to make it crystal clear to people
04:36that if they come to our country illegally,
04:38they won't be able to stay.
04:40What I'm now asking for is the opportunity
04:43to change our country for the better.
04:45Because we've had 14 pretty awful years.
04:48Yes, there will be change.
04:48It won't be change you like.
04:50It will be change when your taxes are going up,
04:52when we become the soft touch of Europe for illegal migrants.
