00:00Assalam-o-Alaikum and good evening, I am Meher Bukhari.

00:1510th and 11th November 1974, the middle of the night.

00:19When the former member of the People's Party, Ahmed Raza Qasuri,

00:22along with his father, Nawab Muhammad Ahmed Khan, and his wife,

00:25were passing through Shadman Colony, Lahore on their way back from a wedding,

00:29bullets were fired on their vehicles by armed attackers.

00:32As a result of the firing, Ahmed Raza Qasuri's father, Nawab Muhammad Ahmed Khan Qasuri,

00:36died on the spot.

00:38No one could have imagined that the F.I.R. of this murder

00:41would be filed against the then Prime Minister, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto,

00:44in the Lahore police station, Ichhra.

00:46And then, in this very case, Bhutto would be hanged.

00:49The Punjab government had formed a judicial commission

00:52consisting of the judge, Shafi and Rehman of Lahore High Court for the investigation.

00:56The commission submitted its report to the Punjab government on 26th February 1975.

01:01The report could not be released to the public.

01:03But in October 1975, the investigation officer, Malik Muhammad Baris,

01:07was asked to file a case against him.

01:09He was told to go to his office, but the accused could not be traced.

01:13But then, on 5th July 1977, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto's seat was reversed

01:19and martial law was introduced in the country.

01:22And since Bhutto was the Prime Minister of the country,

01:24and there was no direct charge on him,

01:26this was the reason why Bhutto was locked up in his house at least 7 times.

01:32But then, the administration started looking for cases against Bhutto.

01:36The army government started looking for cases

01:38by the paramilitary force of Bhutto,

01:40i.e. the Federal Security Force,

01:43while investigating serious cases like Mubayana, political murder and abduction.

01:48The case was handed over to the F.I.A.

01:51The F.I.A. got this opportunity in March 1975,

01:54when the F.I.A.'s Deputy Director, Abdul Khaliq,

01:59suspected that the F.S.F. could be involved in the murder of Nawab Muhammad Ahmed Khan.

02:07And then, on 24th and 25th July 1977,

02:11i.e. 20 days after martial law,

02:14the F.S.F.'s Sub-Inspector Arshad Iqbal

02:17and the Assistant Sub-Inspector Rana Iftikhar Ahmed were investigated.

02:22Both of them were arrested.

02:25Then, on 26th July 1977,

02:27in front of Magistrate Zulfiqar Ali Toor,

02:30both of them confessed their crimes.

02:33After that, the Director Operations and Intelligence,

02:36Mian Muhammad Abbas and Inspector Ghulam Mustafa were also arrested.

02:40All of them confessed their crimes in front of the Magistrate.

02:43All of them were involved in the crime.

02:45But later on, all of them became a witness.

02:48Also, the F.S.F.'s Chief, Masood Mehmood,

02:51who was in prison after martial law,

02:53became a witness against Bhutto.

02:55And thus, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was arrested in this case on 3rd September 1977.

03:01But ten days later,

03:03Justice K.M.A. Samdani released Bhutto on bail.

03:07But then, three days later,

03:09Bhutto was arrested again in this case under martial law.

03:12On 11th September 1977,

03:14the case was brought to the Lahore High Court

03:16even though the name of the case was not finalized.

03:18And then, time also saw that

03:20Lahore High Court became a trial court

03:22and a formal witness box was made.

03:24On 2nd March 1978, the trial was finalized.

03:27And on 18th March 1978,

03:29the five judges of the High Court

03:31declared in their decision that

03:33in the presence of evidence,

03:35it is proved that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto

03:37along with the Director General, Federal Security Force,

03:39Masood Mehmood,

03:41had conspired to kill Suri.

03:43And as a result of the attack of the Federal Security Force,

03:46his father, Muhammad Ahmed Khan, was killed by Suri.

03:49Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was sentenced to death in this case.

03:52This decision of the High Court was challenged in the Supreme Court,

03:54where the 7th Rukni Bench,

03:56on 7th February 1979,

03:58while making a decision on the appeal,

04:00ordered Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto to be hanged on 4th April 1979.
