00:00Acura's Ali Reed is alive this morning from our nation's capital with more on the continuing heat
00:06wave. Ali good to see you looking bright out there and I'm interested how people are dealing
00:11with the heat. Well Ari it certainly is still hot here across our nation's capital and the heat wave
00:18really continues to push on right here in Washington D.C. Now temperatures over the
00:24weekend experienced over 100 degrees. Today's mid-90s may feel like some sort of relief for
00:31a number of people but still important to remain vigilant as we go into the remainder of this week.
00:36Now health experts are urging everyone not to become complacent here. It's still crucial to
00:41stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing and apply plenty of sunscreen if you're spending time
00:46outdoors. Remember heat-related illnesses can still occur even when temperatures aren't hitting
00:51triple digits. Over the last few days here in our nation's capital plenty of people were seen
00:56spending time outdoors but many were under shade taking breaks out of the sun and utilizing air
01:01conditioned facilities like a number of the museums here along the National Mall. Now in
01:05regards to heat-related emergencies the D.C. Department of Health continues to emphasize
01:09the importance of awareness and prevention. We are refocusing now on what do we do to prevent
01:17you to get from getting to that spot in time where you experiencing those things and a lot
01:22of that is about awareness. What are you at higher risk for a heat-related emergency or
01:29heat-related illness and what resources are available to you in the district
01:35and how do I connect you to those resources when you do need them.
01:40In addition to the heat the hot and dry conditions have led to a drought watch for the entire state
01:45of Virginia plus several counties in northern Virginia are under a drought warning. These areas
01:51have gone several weeks without significant rainfall impacting local water supplies and even
01:57agriculture. Now some relief may be on the way here in D.C. with the possibility for rain later
02:03on this evening and over the weekend as well. As for the temperatures highs will remain near 90s
02:10through the remainder of this week certainly still going to be very hot over the next couple of days.
02:15Yeah Allie exactly.
