The Polish Society celebrates 70 years in Glasgow

The Polish Society has been a community hub in Glasgow’s West End since 1954.

00:00The building basically belongs to the society that has been given 70 years ago

00:06by the Scottish politician to Polish people who has been, you know, basically

00:14army officers who's been fighting in Second World War and come, came to

00:21Scotland, you know, to fight for our freedom and your freedom.

00:26Yes, and after war there was quite a lot of places like this, the Dom Polski, the

00:34house for Polish soldiers, they stay here, but this place I think it's just one of

00:41the last one. I'm not saying in all UK but I think in Scotland it's maybe one

00:47or two more in Scotland and here, as Rafał mentioned earlier, we'll be having

00:5570th anniversary of existing and we are second, third generation, but we arrived

01:03here not long ago, right, so, but the spirit of this Polish culture is still

01:12here and we're trying to continuing this in all kind of different playgroups.

01:18Basically the idea is just to kind of continue what the, what the people

01:24started 70 years ago, so basically that was the place for the Polish people to

01:29meet and cultivate the culture and heritage and etc. So we're trying to

01:39continue that but by having the various events or kind of cyclic types of events.

01:47So we've got, we've got a Polish school in here, we've got a playgroup, we've got

01:52a seniors club, we've got an art club. Dancing group Polonez that's

01:58practicing the classic dance which name is Polonez. There's a cinema club

02:06that we're trying to put some movies and yeah, basically I don't know, we don't

02:10want to forget about any Polish lessons here run by teachers. So we basically have

02:18a Polish lessons for people, for Scots or people with Polish heritage or any

02:25other nationalities who would, you know, have this idea of learning Polish. They

02:30could come here and learn Polish. We've got English lessons for Polish people

02:36or any other nationals. Recently people from Ukraine who came here also kind of

02:43uses, use our facility to learn English.
