The caretaker was attacked by the 53-year-old elephant on Thursday in the Kallar area of the Idukki region of Kerala moments after he was seen cruelly hitting its legs and giving commands.

The assistant caretaker, who was trying to tether the elephant, was severely trampled, collapsed, and later died.

The heart-wrenching video showed the enormous elephant smashing its trainer's body after stomping on him. It then slams him to the ground after grabbing his neck by the trunk.

The footage also shows a second man showing up as the elephant attempted to kick him.

The trainer who died was 62-year-old M Balakrishnan, who underwent a formal autopsy before his body was handed over to his relatives for last rites.

Reports suggest an investigation has been initiated against the elephant safari park in light of the tragic incident.

The urgent closure of the park was mandated by the Forest Department.

According to the local reports, A H Jalaludin, a resident of Erumeli in the Kottayam district, was the owner of the elephant.

However, P K Raveendran, a local from Kanjirappally, was the elephant's main caretaker.

The elephant was housed for safari at Kerala Farm in the Devikulam taluk hamlet of Anaviratty.
