00:00In celebration of the expansion of the relationship between the Philippines and Canada,
00:03Canada Day and the anniversary of bilateral relations of the two countries were celebrated.
00:08The Philippines also thanked Canada for its support in the middle of the issue in the West Philippine Sea.
00:13First news, JP Soriano.
00:20On the 157th anniversary of Canada,
00:25which is also the 75th anniversary of bilateral relations between Canada and the Philippines,
00:32the government of the Philippines thanked Canada for its participation in the Philippines
00:38and for condemning China's harassment of the Filipino soldiers
00:43who were in the Rotation and Resupply Mission in Ayungin Shoal.
00:47In the Global Affairs Canada,
00:50they also condemned the actions of the China Coast Guard
00:54as part of the assassination of Philippine vessels that did not comply with China's obligations
01:00under international law as part of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea or UNCLOS.
01:07Canada is also calling on China to comply with the 2016 Arbitral Ruling
01:13that entered the Philippines and destroyed the historical claims of China in the South China Sea.
01:19We appreciate Canada's continued support of the International Rules-Based Order,
01:25the 2016 Arbitral Award on the West Philippine Sea,
01:29and the consistent messaging on past and more recent incidents in our waters.
01:34But it is not only the condemnation of China's actions that ended Canada's support for the Philippines.
01:41According to Canadian Ambassador to the Philippines David Hartman,
01:45the relationship between Canada and the Philippines is expanding
01:49when it comes to defense and maritime cooperation.
01:53Under the auspices of our Indo-Pacific Strategy,
01:55we have rapidly expanded cooperation in areas such as diplomacy,
01:59defense relations, maritime cooperation, and trade and investment.
02:03The relationship between the two countries is also expanding
02:07when it comes to other aspects of the economy, trade, and agriculture.
02:12Canada will establish a Food Trade Office in the Philippines
02:17and will further strengthen the framework of education.
02:21We have eased the process of travel to Canada,
02:24increased our assistance on maritime domain awareness, sustainable development, and climate adaptation,
02:29opened a regional agri-food trade office here in Manila,
02:32and created new institutional partnerships,
02:35including between more than 180 institutions of higher education.
02:39Along with almost eight decades of relationship between Canada and the Philippines,
02:43Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau first invited President Bongbong Marcos
02:51to visit Canada where more than one million Filipinos work and live.
