00:00Okay James, listen, when I tell you to break, you take a step back immediately, keep your punches up, I bet you might come out to protect yourself at all times.
00:09Good luck to you folks, you haven't been touched lots.
00:30But he's only been stopped once, and he's a busy man, this is his 10th fight of the year in three different countries, and his fifth in the United Kingdom.
00:40The sky blue trunks for Ben Thale, and the black and gold for the man from Sofia in Bulgaria, Nikola Stoyanov.
00:48And I'm delighted to say alongside me as always, it's a good evening to Richie Woodall.
00:52Yes, good evening Fletch.
00:53Looking forward to this one, I like the look of Ben Thale.
00:56Obviously, probably his brother as well, he boxed with GB, so I know a lot to do with Carl.
01:02But Ben, I think he's a little bit more aggressive than Carl.
01:06Carl's more of an out-and-out boxer compared to Ben, he's a little bit of a box fighter if you like.
01:10So, yeah, always excited on that front foot, good boxing skills.
01:15So yes, looking forward to this one, again it's a tough man in Stoyanov's.
01:19Sixth round, that's it.
01:21Super welterweight, fourth of the fights on the card that we've got for you tonight,
01:25culminating at the top of the board, which is Mark Chamberlain against Archon's Ramlabs.
01:31A little bit later on you'll see Henry Turner tonight, Liam Williams, a couple of debuts on the cards as well.
01:37And Ben Thale trying to make up for lost time, I think spent two and a half years out of the ring after breaking his hand
01:43in his professional debut against Robbie Chapman back in 2020.
01:47And in an ideal world, he'll be spectacular here tonight for the first time in this opening round there,
01:52which he's just backing Stoyanov to the ropes and letting his hands go.
01:55Yeah, some good stuff here from Ben Thale.
01:58It's all controlled with that jab, and Stoyanov is having real problems here,
02:03can't get close enough to Ben Thale when he is trying to walk forward,
02:07and there's that jab, there it is again.
02:09So it's a well-educated jab into the face of Stoyanov, and then Thale's backing it up,
02:14pushing him back onto the ropes, and then letting that left hand go also.
02:18So a good start at the moment from Ben Thale.
02:21He's got all four fights, Ben Thale, three of them via stoppage,
02:25all three of those stoppages in 2023,
02:28and he has had to deal with a fair amount of frustration with the injury issue,
02:32so you can understand it, Rich, if he's a man who wants to make up for lost time.
02:37Yes, indeed, and I think he had a bad injury at the end and broke his hand,
02:42and this is his debut contest, another couple of years out,
02:45but he's come back, and he's doing the business,
02:48and this has been another good round for him here.
03:00Far of a self-pouring there, the orthodox style of Stoyanov,
03:04who's three years older than Thale at 29,
03:07he's only won four of the 11 fights that he's been involved in,
03:10he's lost seven times.
03:12As we move towards the end of the first round here,
03:14scheduled for six at Super Welterweight here at York Hall.
03:20Decent support inside the venue as well for Ben Thale.
03:30And both of them just looking to open up here right at the end of this first round.
03:34Decent action in centre ring, and there's the bell.
03:40Thank you.
04:10Phantom Parfum, the new fragrance, by Rabanne.
04:40Attached to it when I arrived for work early,
04:42there were still people swimming around up and down,
04:44enjoying the night, getting the exercise in.
04:47And here we are into the second round of this one,
04:49Ben Thale of Northampton against the Bulgarian Nikola Stoyanov.
04:55The blood just coming from Stoyanov's nose as well,
04:58that might have been caused by that little flurry from Thale
05:00right at the end of the first round.
05:02We've actually seen a glimpse of what Stoyanov should be doing
05:05towards the end of the round, first round,
05:08he's started to get a little bit closer to Thale,
05:10he's started to up the pace and go through the gears a little bit more.
05:13So that's what I think he's got to do.
05:15I think Thale just controlled the pace in that opening round,
05:18especially with his jab.
05:20And he prefers a slower pace, if anything.
05:23Look, there you go, that's not too bad.
05:25Oh, gets caught there with a shot, good punch Thale.
05:28Best punch that Thale's landed, wobbly legs here for Stoyanov,
05:31and he's letting the punches go and unloading,
05:33and the referee, Mark Pence, is taking a look.
05:35And there's nothing coming back whatsoever here
05:37from Stoyanov at the moment,
05:39who's desperately trying to get a hold of Thale,
05:41but he can't keep him off, and in the end,
05:43he has no other option but to take a knee and take the count.
05:46Yeah, just sustainably attacking you there, Thale,
05:49with good shots, picking his punches,
05:51and again, Thale, he smells an early win here.
05:57They continue, but Thale really closed him down.
06:00Real opportunity now for Thale to get the stoppage,
06:03and Stoyanov gamely trying to fight back,
06:05and I think, through desperation,
06:07he's able to tie Thale up
06:09and just gain that little bit of respite in there,
06:11but the attack quickly resumed by Thale,
06:14and Stoyanov at the moment cannot avoid these shots.
06:18And a real heavy left hook got through
06:20in the middle of that little combination.
06:23Yeah, he's in trouble here, he's left up a good...
06:25The referee, yeah, he's had enough, that's it.
06:29Well, he's disappointed by the stoppage, Stoyanov,
06:31but the reality is Mark Bates has seen him
06:34take an awful lot of punishments in there.
06:36Yeah, a lot of punishments and not a lot coming back, you see,
06:38that's why the referee's jumped in,
06:40and I'm not going to complain about that.
06:42Another good performance from Ben Thale,
06:44put his shots together really well,
06:46kept his men on the ropes there,
06:47and the referee, I think, had no alternative
06:49because there's not a lot coming back.
06:52So he started off the year with a six-round stoppage in Telford,
06:56a first-round stoppage here in June,
06:59and then a month later he stopped Serge Amfomo
07:02in the third round in July,
07:04and he finishes 2023 with a second-round stoppage
07:07here against Nikola Stoyanov.
07:09And that's a good year for Ben Thale,
07:11you can see the smile on his face,
07:13four successive wins and all of them inside six rounds.
07:16Yeah, good work from him,
07:18all set up behind his lead hand as well,
07:20but let's have a look, there's that left hand there,
07:22that was the shot that really started it all,
07:25and then he just sustains the attack,
07:27keeps the attack going,
07:28picking his punches,
07:29switching from body to head,
07:31hooks, uppercuts going in,
07:33yeah, some really good effective work there from Thale.
07:36There's that left uppercut,
07:38and then the left hook,
07:39one down to the body,
07:41not a lot coming back,
07:42the referee's already made his mind up by then
07:44because there was nothing coming back up to that stage,
07:46and he waves it off.
07:49So let's get the official result tonight,
07:52and the referee in there, Mark Bates,
07:54is ready with the two boxers,
07:56Debsani.
07:59Ladies and gentlemen,
08:01at the time of 1 minute 54 seconds
08:04in the second round,
08:06your referee, Mark Bates,
08:08calls a halt to this contest
08:10with the red corner in no position to attack.
08:14Calls a halt to this contest
08:16with the red corner in no position to continue.
08:20Therefore, your winner by TKO,
08:24and still undefeated,
08:27Big Ben Thale!
08:34So Ben Thale gets the stoppage victory
08:36to get things rolling here at York Hall tonight,
08:39that's a fourth stoppage victory of the year,
08:43to make up for lost time,
08:44having missed two and a half years of his professional career
08:46with a broken hand.
