Britain must go back to basics - that’s the message from a poll in the UK. The data suggests people are growing more concerned about the quality of basic services like housing and healthcare.
The poor often feel the biggest impact, but they’re not the only ones getting frustrated. CGTN’s Michael Marillier explains.

00:00Are you getting the basics from your leaders?
00:03That's a key question as the UK prepares for an election on July 4th.
00:09Research firm Gallup asked British people to rate basic public services and infrastructure last year.
00:16They were quizzed about their communities, things like housing, healthcare, schools and public transport.
00:23The overall rating, 67 out of 100.
00:27That may not sound too bad, but in 2011 it was 79.
00:32Here's the thing, people from all walks of life rated services in very similar ways.
00:38So, for the poorest, 20%, a rating of 68.
00:42For the richest, a score of 66.
00:46Politics didn't seem to matter that much either.
00:49Those who approved of the country's leadership have a rating of 70,
00:53just four points above those who weren't happy with the government.
00:58What does all this mean?
01:00Well, most people think services aren't as good as they used to be.
01:04And no matter who wins the election, it seems the UK will have to go back to basics.
