This Guy's Son Is An Incredibly Empathetic Dog

Empathetic dog refuses to leave his dad's side while he's in the hospital

00:00Almost a year ago, I was admitted to the emergency room.

00:03They discovered that I am in heart failure.

00:06I have two young daughters.

00:07I need to make sure that I'm around for them as long as possible.

00:13We adopted Magnus.

00:14There was no thought for him to be a service dog.

00:17And then my daughter Riley, my oldest, she has very severe juvenile arthritis.

00:22Just the anxiety and the stress it would cause her.

00:25The way I saw him interacting with her when we first brought him home.

00:28He just knew that someone needed comforting and it's my job to help them.

00:32You ready?

00:34Yeah.

00:35I would have to give Riley her daily injections, sometimes her weekly injections.

00:38And it was really traumatic for her.

00:40You're a good boy. Take care of your sister.

00:42You're doing a good job.

00:44He would lie on her lap. She would start petting him.

00:47And you could just see her whole body melt into this calmer state.

00:50He makes you feel better?

00:52Yeah.

00:54I have two daughters, so he's essentially my son.

00:56The son that I never had.

00:58When I was diagnosed, both of my daughters came and they stayed 100% of visitation hours that they were allowed to stay.

01:05You could see how he would help calm them as well.

01:08Because of the patient visitation hours, they were forced to leave.

01:13Thankfully though, I have this guy to stay with me in the hospital the entire time.

01:22I'm lucky to have this boy. I really am.

01:24My daughters couldn't leave me more at ease knowing that I wasn't by myself.

01:28Because they knew that, alright, dad has Magnus.

01:37He's got his son with him.

01:40Having him there just kept me so calm and kept me as relaxed as possible.

01:45We were in the hospital for three days, but it felt like a lifetime.

01:54He still goes with me to every doctor's appointment.

02:10At this point, I am stable.

02:12He still provides that therapy that I definitely need.

02:16I have a gym in my house, so we work out together.

02:31I'm a firm believer that dogs make everything better.

02:44In terms of my daughters, they are just my world, they're my everything.

02:48And just to have the three of them in my life, I mean it just makes everything complete.

02:53And I need them to suck my ears.
