00:16The Canadian Parliament observed a moment of silence in the House of Commons on Tuesday
00:20to mark the first anniversary of the terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Khalistani terrorist
00:26and the chief of Khalistan Tiger Force.
00:30Nijjar, aged 45, was assassinated outside a Sikh Gurudwara in Surrey, British Columbia
00:35on 18 June 2023.
00:38Notably, Nijjar's name was also on a list of 40 individuals designated as terrorists
00:43by the Indian government.
00:45The chilling video of his assassination, which surfaced in March this year, depicted armed
00:50men executing what was termed as a contract killing.
00:55The Canadian government had accused Indian government behind the move and had arrested
00:59four Indian nationals, Karan Brar, Kamalpreet Singh, Karanpreet Singh and Amandeep Singh,
01:04over the murder.
01:06And so the incident also strained ties between India and Canada, with Canadian Prime Minister
01:11Justin Trudeau openly alleging in September last year that the potential involvement of
01:16Indian agents in Nijjar's killing cannot be denied.
01:38India dismissed these charges as absurd and motivated, asserting that its core issue with
01:43Canada remained the space given to separatists, terrorists and anti-India elements in the
01:48country.
01:49Following Trudeau's allegation, India also temporarily suspended the issuance of visa
01:53to Canadian citizens, which was later resumed.
01:58Hardeep Singh Nijjar was a declared terrorist in India and was wanted in several cases too.
02:03He was the chief of a terror outfit, the Khalistan Tiger Force.
02:07According to the Khalistan Extremism Monitor, Nijjar was a native of Harsikpur in Punjab's
02:13Jalandhar district.
02:15He reportedly also worked as a plumber before being elected unopposed as the head of Guru
02:19Nanak Singh Gurudwara in Surrey, Canada.
02:22Nijjar was accused of visiting Pakistan in 2013-14 to meet another KTF leader, Jagtar
02:28Singh Tara, who was also arrested in Thailand back in 2015.
02:32In 2016, Nijjar was accused of running a betrayal camp in Canada, but he was briefly
02:37detained in April 2018 and released without charges.
02:41Recently, the pro-Khalistan slogans were raised at a rally attended by Trudeau on the occasion
02:46of Khalsa Day celebrations in Toronto.
02:49Trudeau at that time over the Nijjar controversy again asserted that it is committed to safeguard
02:54the right and freedom, stating that diversity is one of Canada's greatest strengths.
02:59However, India now believes that Canada is crossing the red line.
