00:00Armie Hammer is finally speaking out in depth about the allegations of cannibalism,
00:04sexual misconduct and an accusation of rape that upended his career three years ago.
00:10Hammer appeared on the Painful Lessons podcast with host and personal friend Tyler Ramsey
00:15saying that ultimately he is grateful for the entire experience.
00:19The actor's career was at an all-time high following praise in 2017's Call Me By Your Name
00:24but then in January of 2021 an anonymous Instagram account published alleged text
00:30messages Hammer had sent to various women that included dark sexual fantasies and a
00:34reference to cannibalism. Soon more allegations of abuse and cannibalism came out before his
00:40anonymous Instagram accuser then came forward to claim Hammer raped her in April of 2017
00:45with the LAPD opening up an investigation into the actor that eventually brought no charges.
00:51Hammer denied any criminal wrongdoing while accepting some responsibility and noting that
00:55he was in recovery. Hammer now says on the podcast,
00:58I'm actually now at a place where I'm really grateful for it. Because where I was in my life
01:02before all of that stuff happened to me, I didn't feel good. I never felt satisfied. I never had
01:07enough. The fallout from the scandalous accusations, Hammer told Ramsey, was an ego
01:12death, a career death. A neutron bomb went off in my life. It killed off everything.
01:16He also opened up about the suicidal ideation that followed after.
01:20I was standing on the shore and I just looked out at the ocean and thought, yep, this is it.
01:24And I just swam out really far. Now he said the lessons he learned and new perspective
01:29gained from the scandal are invaluable. He also discussed the rumors of him eating human flesh.
01:34That's hilarious. People called me a cannibal and everyone believed them. They're like, yep,
01:38that guy ate people. They're just like, what? Like, what are you talking about?
01:42He also noted that while Hollywood has not come knocking with any new opportunities,
01:46he has co-written a screenplay that he plans to see through to the next stage
01:49of making it into a film. For more on Armie Hammer's podcast appearance,
