00:06Thailand overwhelmingly voted to legalize same-sex marriage.
00:10Of the 152 members of the Senate in attendance, 18 abstained, four voted against, and 130
00:17voted in favor, much to the joy of advocates present in the chamber.

00:30same-sex marriage bill through.
00:32This is not just about amending a law.
00:35It is also going to change the lives of those in the LGBTQ community and their families.
00:45The bill is now slated to be approved by the King and then published in the Government
00:49Gazette.
00:50It will then, within 120 days, become law.
00:53The prime minister celebrated the news on social media, calling it a significant milestone.
00:59The law will amend the nation's civil code, removing the words men and women and replacing
01:04them with the gender-neutral term individual.
01:08Many LGBTQ plus Thais say there's now a wedding to plan.

01:19during the 16 days of activism, because we are human rights defenders.
01:24While Thailand has a reputation for inclusivity, many in the community say they faced frequent
01:29discrimination.
01:30And they say that this milestone helps put the law and equality on their side too.
