Before a roundtable in Detroit, Michigan, former HUD Secretary Ben Carson promoted former President Trump.

00:00Now that doesn't mean that I didn't have to do a little extra work.
00:04You know, I would go down to Wayne State University
00:08and study there. I got hired on as a lab assistant
00:12there. I would go to the Detroit Institute of Arts,
00:16and roam through all those galleries until I knew every picture who painted it, what
00:20period it represented. I was always listening to all kinds of
00:24different musics, and really supplemented
00:28my education. But there were wonderful people in Detroit.
00:32There were people who believed in America.
00:36There were people who were always saying what you can do, and not what you can't
00:40do.
00:44And that made
00:48a big difference. I had teachers. I remember Lemuel Doakes,
00:52the band teacher. I was very good on the baritone.
00:56I won a scholarship to Interlochen. That's pretty substantial.
01:00Would have been the first person from Southwestern High School to do that.
01:04And it would have been a big feather in his cap. He said,
01:08Benny, don't accept it, because you're going to be a great doctor
01:12and I don't want you to get distracted. He was much more concerned about
01:16what was going to happen to me than about accolades for himself.
01:20There are people like that throughout Detroit.
01:24They just need to make themselves known. They need to speak up.
01:28Because the problem has not been that people don't
01:32think the right way, and don't understand things.
01:36The problem is that people get into a herd mentality
01:40and they don't want to say anything, because
01:44someone might call them and ask them in or try to cancel them.
01:48But I've got to tell you, I don't worry about people trying to cancel me
01:52as long as God doesn't cancel me.
02:08The second
02:12misperception that people have is that Trump
02:16is a nasty man, is a racist,
02:20is all the kind of things that they try to demonize him with.
02:24And I can tell you I haven't gotten to know him very well
02:28in the last decade or so. It's not true. The first time I met him
02:32was at Mar-a-Lago. It was before either of us got into the political arena.
02:36And I was talking to him and someone came up to him and said,
02:40Mr. Trump, Mr. Trump, Ron Stewart just came in.
02:44And he said, I don't care, this is Ben Carson.
02:48But
02:52I've seen his interactions with the
02:56employees, with the people who wash the dishes, with the people who
03:00park the cars. He knows their names.
03:04He does things for them. They love him. The same thing at Trump Towns.
03:08I've seen him when we've been out and there are no cameras
03:12around and the way that he interacts with average people.
03:16He's not like a typical politician. He actually cares about people.
03:20And I think people are starting to see that. But what I am
03:24most thrilled about is that the American people
03:28are showing that they have
03:32intellectual firepower. Because
03:36what the left depends on
03:40is people not thinking for themselves.
03:44And what always happens
03:48before a society changes
03:52to become communist or socialist
03:56with Marxist policies is they dumb down the population.
04:00When Alexis de Tocqueville came here in 1831
04:04to study America to see why we were doing so well,
04:08he was shocked to see that he'd go into the forest
04:12and find a mountain man that the guy could read.
04:16And the guy could tell you about the founding documents of our country.
04:20Now what do we have? You've seen those men on the street
04:24interviews that ask people who won the Civil War.
04:28They're like, France?
04:32They have no idea about anything.
04:36When you're that ignorant, it's easy for people to pull a wool over your eyes.
04:40And they'll be telling you stuff like, oh, the southern border
04:44is completely under control. Millions of people are coming across
04:48including terrorists. And they're telling you this and you're saying,
04:52oh, okay, they said it was okay, okay, no problem.
04:56You know, there was a reason that the good Lord gave us a brain.
05:00And we need to think for ourselves. And I am glad
05:04to see that starting to happen.
05:10And I'll tell you, working with Trump
05:14was very easy when I was at HUD.
05:18You know, we reformed FHA loans to make them much
05:22easier for people to get responsible people.
05:26We had the highest black home ownership in history.
05:30And,
05:34you know, revitalizing
05:38some of the areas with Opportunity Zones. HUD was the agency
05:42that actually operated the Opportunity Zones. The Foster
05:46Youth to Independence Program. The Envision Centers.
05:50There were so many things once we got the fiscal house in order.
05:54And he was very useful in doing that.
05:58And HBCUs, he made sure that they didn't have to come with their
06:02hand every year.
06:06Good, meaningful reform to the
06:10judicial system to make it much flatter and much fairer.
06:14All those things are true. But what
06:18is going on now is he represents a substantial threat
06:22to the status quo and to the deep state and to those
06:26who control and manipulate everybody. And American
06:30people are starting to wake up and realize
06:34that what they're trying to do is actually divide and conquer.
06:38Driving wedges between us on the basis of race,
06:42age, income, gender, political
06:46affiliation, religion, anything that you can imagine.
06:50Jesus said it best, a house divided against itself cannot stand.
06:54They know that.
06:58And
07:02that is something that you will see with Donald Trump.
07:06He does not pit one group against the other group. His philosophy
07:10is that a rising tide floats all boats.
07:14And that's what you will continue to see. So don't
07:18get bamboozled by the
07:22left and by the media who are going to try everything
07:26they can to demonize him. I'll tell you who the real demons
07:30are. They're the people who are trying to use our judicial system
07:34to put down their political opponents.
07:38That's the real threat to America.
07:42But
07:46it is my firm belief
07:50that the people of this country, which were established
07:54as the safeguard to our country, will know
07:58what to do and will recognize that you
08:02cannot be the land of the free if you're not the home of the
08:06brave. Thank you all so much.
