00:00About one firearm is being seized from London streets every day, with gangs fuelling a vicious
00:07cycle of violence involving money, drugs and firearms, a Met Police commander has said.
00:14Commander Paul Brogden said over half of shootings in the capital involve gangs or organised
00:19crime, with weapons being used to control territory or threaten those who owed money.
00:26But what do locals think about a gun being seized in London every day?
00:31The Met Police are seizing one gun per day in London at the moment, how does that make
00:36you feel?
00:37It's scary, I mean I've lived up here all my life, my kids all grew up here, but I'm
00:41glad now that my kids have all grown up and moved away, so they're not round here, one
00:48lives in Penn, two live down in Hastings now, so they're out of the way from London.
00:54Do you feel that London maybe isn't safe?
00:56Yeah, I mean I worked on the buses for 17 years, and that was, I mean I retired when
01:03I was 62, I'm 71 now, and it got to a stage where we were getting more and more trouble
01:10on the buses, so I said to them, look, when can I retire?
01:14I think it's dreadful that there are so many guns up and about in the streets really, there's
01:20just too many and it makes people scared.
01:24Do you feel that London's safe, or not really?
01:28Yeah I do, but it could be safer.
01:31Well obviously not a good thing, I don't know what kind of age or what demographic we're
01:35talking about there, but obviously it's a dreadful situation that we're currently with,
01:41not just the guns but also the knives, so it's quite a complex issue I know to solve,
01:47it's not easily solvable, but obviously there needs to be more control of somehow getting
01:53these often to younger people as well, which is terrible.
