00:00Jasmine said that Elmo can learn to use some power tools today!
00:04No, I didn't say that.
00:05I definitely didn't say that.
00:06The bandsaw!
00:07The drills!
00:08The hammered!
00:09That's not a power tool.
00:10None of that's happening.

01:48Well, Elmo, that's why we're here, right?
01:50We're gonna give a very special teacher a big surprise!
01:53Oh, great!
01:54Well, let's get to it!
01:55Let's game!
01:56Ah!
01:57Tango bears, Tango bears, yat-yat-yat-yat-yat-yat!
02:00What a nice school!
02:07Yeah!
02:08Look!
02:09It's all decorated for the holidays!
02:10Yeah!
02:11Pretty!
02:12Haha!
02:13You know, Elmo loves school.
02:14And Elmo loves teachers!
02:15They're really important!
02:16Oh, my gosh!
02:17Me, too.
02:18I love school, too, Elmo and I think we're about to meet a really great teacher!
02:21Really?
02:22Get ready, right there, right there.
02:25Ready?
02:26All right, everybody has to close their eyes.
02:28My name is Amanda Taylor and I am a theater teacher.
02:31I think theater is really critical
02:33and I think it builds imagination.
02:35I think it builds creative thinking, problem solving,
02:38just real world skills that kids need, I think,
02:41to go into the world and be amazing humans.
02:44We're gonna go up one at a time
02:45and kind of introduce our character.
02:48I like Ms. Taylor's class
02:51because you get to explore different things.
02:55Theater taught me how to speak in front of people
02:58and not be scared.
02:59Ms. Taylor's very welcoming
03:01and she's also, like, very helpful.
03:03She just brightens up the room
03:06and she's very kind and has the best humor.
03:09I think she is the best director ever
03:13and I would totally recommend her to be a movie star.
03:18So we're watching Joaquin,
03:19we're looking at his facial expression.
03:21Ms. Taylor started this program seven years ago
03:23and she came in, created her own framework, expectations,
03:27and we are blown away with everything that she does.
03:30But we don't have a lot of resources for theater.
03:32I love my school and I love my classroom.
03:35I love that it's unique,
03:37but it definitely has its challenges.
03:38I get to see 600 kids a week
03:41and I get to teach them for six years.
03:43I have done everything that I can do
03:44to make my room as warm and lovely as I can,
03:49but it would mean so much to me
03:50to have somebody else come in and make it amazing.
03:56Look, it's Ms. Taylor's class.
03:58Oh, they're ready.
04:00Should we do it?
04:00Yeah.
04:01Let's do it.
04:02I've noticed in the past.
04:03Hi, everybody.
04:04Yeah.
04:05Hi.
04:06Happy holidays.
04:07This is so wonderful.
04:09Hi, Ms. Taylor's class.
04:11Hi.
04:12Hi.
04:13Elmo, Tango, and Ms. Jasmine
04:15are here for a special holiday surprise.
04:18Elmo.
04:19Woo.
04:20Yeah.
04:21Yeah.
04:22That's right.
04:23But you're going to have to wait to see it
04:24because it's a surprise.
04:25Yay.
04:26You know what?
04:27You know what?
04:28Elmo has some questions, okay?
04:29So if there's anything that you could change
04:31about the classroom, what would it be?
04:34More storage for all of our costumes.
04:36Oh, do you have a lot of costumes?
04:38Mm-hmm.
04:39I think I would add some more seating
04:40because half of us are on the floor.
04:42I would, like, get more places for changing.
04:46Mm-hmm.
04:47Okay.
04:48More changing areas.
04:49Yeah, because normally we end up doing it
04:50before a show in the bathroom.
04:51All right.
04:52Okay.
04:53We better get going.
04:54We have a lot of work to do.
04:55Yeah.
04:56This is going to look very different when you come back.
04:57Are you guys ready for a surprise?
04:58Yeah.
04:59Let's go.
05:00Okay.
05:01Have a good weekend.
05:02Have a good weekend.
05:03Bye.
05:04Bye.
05:05Bye.
05:06Bye.
05:07Bye.
05:08Bye.
05:09Bye.
05:10Bye.
05:11Bye.
05:12Bye.
05:13Bye.
05:14Miss Taylor puts all of her time
05:15into making these amazing performances
05:18and working with her students.
05:19She has a heart of gold,
05:21and her classroom just needs a little bit of a pick-me-up.
05:24Okay.
05:25So I want to hear everything about your classroom.
05:27Yeah, but first, Tango has this treat for you.
05:29Oh, Tango, thank you.
05:31That's what you call a teacher's pet.
05:34Oh?
05:35Well, so this is your desk, huh?
05:38Well, I like it, but I definitely wish it was a little bit more functional for what I need.
05:42Okay, so what's going on up here?
05:44Is this a stage?
05:45I have a small stage in my room that's great, especially for the younger kids because they're
05:49scared to go on the big stage in the gym.
05:51So you have your wardrobe here.
05:53Oh, Tango!
05:54Tango loves a good costume.
05:59I see a lot of lockers.
06:02Which are nice.
06:03I think that there's something that we can do with these because at the end of the day,
06:06they're pretty functional.
06:07I think there's actually a lot in this room that we can repurpose and reuse.
06:12That would be great.
06:13I would love that.
06:14Oh, we need to get a good night's sleep.
06:15We have a lot of work to do.
06:16That's right.
06:17We better get to work if we're going to be ready by Monday.
06:18Hey, you know what?
06:19Can Elmo give Miss Taylor a hug?
06:21Aww.
06:22Elmo's so excited for you to see what we do.
06:25I'm excited too, Elmo.
06:26Miss Taylor's done a great job with the classroom that she has, but the actual classroom could
06:30serve them a little bit better.
06:32It just needs a lot of help.
06:33I have so many ideas, right?
06:35Yeah.
06:36There's so much we can do.
06:37Elmo thinks it's really important to help other people because, well, that's what holidays
06:42are all about, you know?
06:43Being kind and treating people with respect and helping people when you can.
06:48That's kind of what Sesame Street's all about.
06:59Okay, Miss Jasmine, it's day one, but how are we going to fix up Miss Taylor's classroom?
07:04So the first thing I'm thinking is we definitely need to do something for the area where they
07:09get ready.
07:10We'll do storage for all the costumes.
07:12What?
07:13And I think we should do a place where they do their hair and makeup, right?
07:15Some mirrors.
07:16Yeah, that's great.
07:17That way they can get ready for the show right here.
07:19Exactly.
07:20And then we need to add a lot of color.
07:23Color?
07:24We can't forget about Miss Taylor's desk.
07:26You know, every teacher needs a beautiful desk to work at.
07:29And then seating.
07:30Oh, seating.
07:31We need to make sure that there's plenty of areas for, you know, all the different things
07:33that they're doing in this room that everybody is somewhere to sit.
07:36Yeah, maybe some new rugs too.
07:38The first thing we need to do is get everything out of here.
07:41Get everything out of here.
07:42Okay.
07:43Well, you know what?
07:44Don't worry.
07:45Elmo brought some friends along to help.
07:48Hello!
07:49We hear the monsters for the job.
07:52And the chicken for the job.
07:53Oh, yeah.
07:54That too.
07:57Now that we have a plan in place, we have to clear this space.
07:59Oh, that's a lot of crayons.
08:00We have to get everything out so we can start fresh.
08:02I got it.
08:03I got it.
08:04I got it.
08:05One full box coming through.
08:06We're going to do our best to make sure that all the furniture and things get a great
08:08home and we're going to reuse everything that we possibly can.
08:12Thank you, Tango.
08:14Wow, this box is light as a feather.
08:16Me wonder what's in here.
08:18Hi.
08:21Let's get building, baby!
08:23If there's one classroom that deserves a big dose of color, it's the theater room.
08:27So we're going to go with a muted rainbow palette, blocks of color that are happy but
08:33don't overwhelm.
08:34Wow, this is a big wall.
08:38Once we cleaned everything out of the classroom, we couldn't help but notice there's this big
08:42blank wall and it was almost just asking for something.
08:45Wait a minute.
08:46What if we make a mural?
08:49Look, there's lots of murals on Sesame Street.
08:52That's such a great idea.
08:53There's also lots of murals around this school that I've been seeing.
08:56You know what?
08:57What?
08:58I think I know just the person.
08:59I'm going to go give them a call.
09:00Luckily, I know a local muralist and I think she could pull this off.
09:03Hi!
09:04Hey, Jasmine!
09:05How are you?
09:06I'm here at the school, working in Ms. Taylor's classroom.
09:07There's this big blank wall that I feel like it's just not, I don't know, it's not doing
09:08anything right now and I feel like it could be so awesome.
09:09Oh my gosh, well you know I love big blank walls so tell me what you have up your sleeve.
09:24Well, okay, I was walking through the hallway and I saw this sign, which this is kind of
09:31Ms. Taylor's whole motto.
09:32It says you are smart, you are kind, you are brave, you are loved.
09:37I was wondering if maybe we use this as kind of the inspiration for a mural on that wall.
09:44I love that.
09:45Yes, absolutely.
09:46I am going to grab my tape measure and you know I'll be right over there.
09:50Okay.
09:51Bye!
09:52You know this classroom is filled with lots of stuff and lots of things to do.
09:58So we have all hands on deck.
10:00All of our friends from Sesame Street are helping for the most part.
10:04How are we going to get this through?
10:06Oh, me got it.
10:09Let's turn the doorway.
10:10Oh, yes, of course.
10:12Why did I not think of that?
10:14Easy answer.
10:15Oh boy, the hardest thing about construction.
10:17What would you say?
10:18Concrete?
10:19Steel?
10:20No, no, no.
10:21I think we have to do this clockwise.
10:22Oh, clockwise?
10:23Yes.
10:24Wait a minute.
10:25These helmets are pretty hard.
10:27Oh, yeah, yeah.
10:29Come in.
10:30Hello.
10:31Come on out.
10:33Half of my job here is just making sure everybody stays on task and focused.
10:38Oh my goodness.
10:40Okay, this is coming along, actually.
10:42This vanity is so important because the kids need somewhere to get ready.
10:45So we're going to build this custom piece, which is almost like a desk.
10:49We're going to add molding.
10:50We're going to paint it.
10:51We're going to add mirrors with lights.
10:53Rosita and Telly, helping with this vanity, go with the grain and maybe a little bit of bigger motion over here.
10:59Like this?
11:00What's grain?
11:01We have a lot of work to get done.
11:03I can't be everywhere at once.
11:04The grain is right here.
11:05It's right here.
11:06Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
11:07I've got to trust him.
11:08All right, I'm going to leave you to it.
11:10You got this.
11:11I'm your monster.
11:12It's okay.
11:13Oh, help!
11:18We're doing a lot of projects, but I think the peg rail is actually one of the easiest.
11:28We'll drill holes, not all the way through, and then the pegs will stick right into those holes, and that's what we'll hang everything on.
11:37A peg rail can be super helpful because it can hang all kinds of weird stuff, right, that you don't really know what to do with.
11:43I've got Cookie Monster.
11:44I've got Grover.
11:45I've got Felix.
11:46Gentle.
11:47I don't think they can mess this up.
11:50Now, I need for you to do the rest of the holes and then put the rest of the pegs in with the glue.
11:57Jasmine is asking us to make a peg rail.
12:00Can we see those pegs?
12:01Here's the pegs.
12:02We just want to make sure they...
12:04No.
12:05No!
12:06No!
12:07Yeah, we did some really great drilling, didn't we, Cookie Monster?
12:10Yeah!
12:11Yeah, me worked the drill.
12:13And I worked my beak.
12:14I got a splinter in my rear mullet.
12:17You did?
12:18It's out, no.
12:19It's out.
12:20Oh, you did?
12:21Okay.
12:22Done!
12:28Okay.
12:29This desk is so cool.
12:31Yeah, it's a great desk!
12:33Miss Taylor needs a new desk.
12:34So, her original desk we donated to a new classroom and we thrifted a desk that's bigger, it has
12:39more storage.
12:40So, we're going to sand it, we're going to prime it, we're going to paint it, and it's
12:44going to be a great pop of color to add in to Miss Taylor's classroom.
12:48All we have to do is we have to get the old stain off, so we have to sand off the old
12:53finish.
12:54Oh!
12:55I almost got a sanding block, see?
12:56Yeah!
12:57Exactly!
12:58So, we'll use that and we'll sand sand.
12:59Here, I'll give you a piece.
13:00Okay, thank you.
13:01So, this is all going to come off and when that finishes off, we can restain it or repaint
13:07it.
13:08Is this right?
13:09I almost never sanded before.
13:10You're doing great!
13:11Yeah!
13:12So, we'll sand it all off just like this.
13:14Sanding is fun!
13:15So, see how the old stain is coming right off?
13:18Yeah!
13:19Look at that!
13:20Go!
13:21You're doing so good!
13:22Thank you!
13:23It's so important to repurpose pieces of furniture whenever we can.
13:26Miss Taylor doesn't need a brand new desk, she just needs a new desk for her that functions
13:30better than the one she has.
13:31Well, you know what I was just thinking?
13:32What?
13:33This is a really great desk, but I feel like we need really great things to go on it.
13:37Yeah!
13:38You know, you're right!
13:39We could use some things to spruce it up!
13:41Yeah!
13:42Exactly!
13:43So, what if I sit here and work on the desk, and you take Tango and go find some students,
13:48and you could make some really great things for the top of the desk?
13:51Hey!
13:52That's a great idea!
13:53We'll get right out of it!
13:55Oh, well, Elmo and Tango are going to surprise Miss Taylor with some homemade crafts!
14:04Yeah, that's right, Tango!
14:05We're going to have our students help us make them!
14:06It's going to make her classroom even more special this holiday!
14:07Okay, now we're going to start with some paperweights!
14:08Cool!
14:09Elmo and Tango found a bunch of rocks outside, and we're going to paint them!
14:10Yeah!
14:11Good job, Tango!
14:12Now we can paint it whatever we want!
14:13I think I'm going to do a snowman!
14:14Yeah!
14:15Put those snowmen together!
14:16Elmo has a paintbrush!
14:17Do you have a paintbrush?
14:18Yes!
14:19Mm-hmm!
14:20Well, let's get to work!
14:21Fresh!
14:22Fresh!
14:23Fresh!
14:24Fresh!
14:25Fresh!
14:26Fresh!
14:27Fresh!
14:28Fresh!
14:29Yeah!
14:30Yeah, Elmo really likes theater a lot!
14:31Do you?
14:32Yes!
14:33What do you like about the theater?
14:34Hmm...
14:35Whenever there's a plot twist in the play...
14:37Yeah, I like to see people's reactions!
14:39Oh, yeah!
14:40Are they like this?
14:41Yes!
14:42Yeah!
14:43How about that?
14:44Yeah!
14:45Yeah!
14:46Yeah!
14:47Yeah!
14:48Yeah!
14:49Yeah!
14:50Yeah!
14:51Yeah!
14:52Yeah!
14:53Yeah!
14:54Yeah!
14:55Yeah!
14:56Yeah!
14:57What does Eli like about the theater?
15:02What I like about theater is it helps represent everyone's feelings.
15:06If you're feeling sad, there's a play for that.
15:08Yeah!
15:09And if you're feeling happy, there's also a play for that.
15:11Oh!
15:12So you can kind of feel your emotions by playing them!
15:15Mm-hmm!
15:16Cool!
15:17Okay, but now that everybody's rocks are dry, we're gonna start gluing them!
15:21Here's something that Ms. Taylor tells us whenever we're using glue.
15:25What's this?
15:26She says dot, dot, and not a lot.
15:27Oh, that's good!
15:28Dot, dot, not a lot!
15:29Got it!
15:30I like your reindeer!
15:31Aw, cute!
15:32Okay!
15:33These are gonna make great paperweights for Ms. Taylor's desk!
15:34I know!
15:35I can't wait to give them to her!
15:36Are you ready to give her?
15:37Are you ready to give her paperweight to Ms. Taylor, Daniel?
15:38Yeah!
15:39Oh, good girl!
15:40Yeah!
15:41Great job!
15:42High five, everybody!
15:43All right.
15:44Okay.
15:45Who's ready to paint?
15:46We're almost done.
15:47We're so close to the end of the day.
15:48Things are coming together nicely.
15:49We just have to finish it.
15:50Okay, so as we're painting, this is just the first coat.
15:51We'll probably have to do a couple coats.
15:52Yeah.
15:53It is a little chilly out here.
15:54It is you!
15:55I could use another coat myself.
15:56Yes, me too!
15:57Not only are we revamping this whole entire classroom, we want to make sure it's really personal for Ms. Taylor and her kids, and a few Nice Desk accessories are gonna make it feel really personal for Ms. Taylor and her kids.
16:16Not only are we revamping this whole entire classroom,
16:20we want to make sure it's really personal for Ms. Taylor and her kids,
16:23and a few nice desk accessories are going to make it feel really personal for Ms. Taylor.
16:28I can't wait to see what they come up with.
16:30Okay, now we're going to make some planters for Ms. Taylor's classroom.
16:34Yeah, we're going to use these cans here.
16:37What are you going to make?
16:38I'm going to make a mouse.
16:39A mouse, that's cool.
16:41Oh, and what are you going to make?
16:42I think I'm going to make tango.
16:44Oh, that's a great idea.
16:46A tango planter.
16:52Great job, Joaquin.
16:55Hey, that looks pretty good.
16:57This is fun.
17:03How did your mouse planter turn out?
17:05I think it turned out pretty well.
17:07Let's see.
17:08Hey, Joaquin, it's wonderful.
17:10Thanks.
17:11Okay, Scarlet, how's the tango planter coming along?
17:14Well, what do you think?
17:15Hey, it looks great.
17:18Look, the ears look just like tango.
17:20Great job.
17:21All of our planters ready so we can put some plants in them and give them to Ms. Taylor.
17:27Yeah, let's have a grease in.
17:28Okay.
17:28Whoa, how do I get down from up here?
17:33Oh, me go get a ladder.
17:35Oh, thank you.
17:36Stay there.
17:37We're getting a lot done, but I think I might have to ask my helpers to pull an all-nighter.
17:42Does that mean that Elmo can stay up past his bedtime?
17:44Yeah, you'd have to work all night, though.
17:46That's okay.
17:47Elmo gets to stay up late.
17:48Yes, yes, yes, yes.
17:49We've got a lot of work to do.
17:59It's the big reveal, Dan.
18:00It's so exciting.
18:01I know.
18:02We've worked really, really hard to hopefully make it a really great day for Ms. Taylor and
18:06her students.
18:07And we're almost done.
18:08Yeah, we can't wait to see it.
18:10This classroom has been a labor of love.
18:13There's still a few things that need to be finished.
18:15Putting all the accessories on the desk.
18:16We're filling the shelves.
18:17We're hanging the wardrobe.
18:19I mean, there's so much that needs to go back into place before Ms. Taylor and her students
18:22get in here.
18:27Perfect.
18:27Lights.
18:29Camera.
18:32Action.
18:40Oh, oh, wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute.
18:42Ms. Taylor is coming.
18:44She's here.
18:45Woo!
18:46It's so exciting.
18:47I can't wait.
18:49I'm really excited.
18:50I'm nervous.
18:52This classroom has been my baby for seven years since the theater program started.
18:58Oh, here we go.
18:58Here we go.
18:59This is exciting.
18:59Come on in.
19:02Ms. Taylor, welcome to your new room.
19:05Oh.
19:07Oh, my gosh.
19:10I love it.
19:11It's so bright.
19:13It's amazing.
19:14Yes.
19:14Of course.
19:15Thank you so much.
19:17Have a look around.
19:19I'm really proud of the work we did.
19:22Well, do you recognize your classroom?
19:24No.
19:24We knew that everybody needed a spot to get ready.
19:27So being able to open this up and have all your costumes in one place, having lots of room
19:32for everybody to kind of figure it out, I feel like this is almost like a giant wardrobe.
19:36One of the things that you mentioned was an area for hair and makeup and for everybody
19:41to get ready so they could have a mirror.
19:43We came up with this table that, you know, gives plenty of room and your desk.
19:48I love the color.
19:50I love the size.
19:51It's perfect.
19:52Oh, good.
19:52So your students and Elmo and Tango got together and they made you some little crafts, just
19:59a little personalization.
20:00That's wonderful.
20:01This is so beautiful.
20:03Oh, oh.
20:04Now show it a mural.
20:05This mural is the thing that we really wanted for you and your class.
20:10You bring so much joy to your students and to their families.
20:14It perfectly conveys who we are and who we want them to be when they grow up and go out
20:21into the world.
20:24You have been such an inspiration to so many people.
20:28And we just hope that this classroom allows you to continue what it is you're already doing.
20:33You bring brightness and joy and love and the arts to so many folks that might not have
20:39it otherwise.
20:40And that's already here.
20:41We didn't change that.
20:42We just made it a little prettier.
20:44It's amazing.
20:48Sorry.
20:50I'm not a person who really is comfortable being celebrated.
20:57I really like to celebrate everyone else.
21:00I think I'm very motivated by loving other people.
21:03And I'm realizing that sometimes you have to let other people love you.
21:07And sometimes that's hard for me.
21:09So this has been a really good experience for me.
21:13I couldn't wait for the students to see what we did.
21:16Go ahead.
21:17Surprise.
21:18Hey, go, go, go, go, go.
21:18Welcome to your new room.
21:20Oh, my gosh.
21:22Hi, guys.
21:23Hi, guys.
21:23And it seems like you really liked it.
21:26Oh, my gosh.
21:28Hi.
21:28Yeah.
21:29These kids seeing their new classroom, oh, my goodness.
21:33You can just see the creativity going through their head.
21:37They can have fun.
21:38They can play with makeup and let their imaginations wander.
21:41Let's hear a sweet cheers for Ms. Taylor.
21:43Yeah.
21:45That's it.
21:46We can't wait to see your next production.
21:50And thank you for joining us on...
21:52Happy Holidays.
21:57Happy Holidays.
22:00I love you.
