00:00Give me the CliffsNotes version of what we're actually here to see.
00:10A bunch of little pieces of a shattered asteroid.
00:13From 11 million miles away.
00:16This is what I give for introducing you two.
00:21Wow.
00:25So should we be worried about this crazy asteroid hitting Earth?
00:30Not in our lifetime.
00:31And it'll probably disintegrate before it reaches the surface.
00:36All right, Max.
00:38You have 24 hours before the world ends.
00:40What would you do?
00:43Oh, I'm documenting that shit.
00:48Can you imagine how cool an apocalypse photo set would be?
00:51Oh my god.
00:53This again?
00:54Nobody would see it.
00:55I'm telling you, art requires an audience.
00:58Otherwise, it's just, OK, jeez.
01:01Agree to disagree.
01:04Awful quiet over there, Murph.
01:07Don't want to weigh in?
01:08Oh, I wasn't listening.
01:10But, hey, looks like the equipment's working.
01:14Eek.
01:15Why am I not at home wrapped up in a blanket burrito right now?
01:25I don't know.
01:27Me and Moses out in town without you?
01:29Think of the wild times you would have missed.
01:34Lakeport's most notorious party animals.
01:37Bah, bah, bah, bah.
01:39Ooh, ooh, ooh.
01:41Mm, mm, mm.
01:42Mm, mm, mm.
01:43Mm, mm, mm.
01:44Mm, mm, mm.
01:47Oh, I brought cups.
01:50Figured that was better than passing the bottle around.
01:56Mm, mm, mm.
01:58This is the best you could do?
02:00I don't work in this building.
02:03Don't blame me for the astronomy department's bad taste.
02:06One says, I'm the world's horniest grandma.
02:10Grab a mug, Max.
02:16Wow.
02:18One out of two ain't bad.
02:20Mm.
02:26I have some good news.
02:29It's big, but I can't tell you what it is.
02:33You can't tell us you have good news and then-
02:35I don't want to say anything else until everything
02:39is finalized.
02:40Mysterious.
02:42Well, whatever we're celebrating,
02:44I think it calls for a selfie.
02:45Oh, let me.
02:46I just got this camera, and I want
02:48to get some good use out of it.
02:51What should we say?
02:53Damn, I think I have hypothermia.
02:59Moses has hypothermia.
03:02Ah.
03:06I've got incoming.
03:10I'm going to, you know, do my thing.
03:16Hm.
03:24Good news, huh?
03:25You two and your secrets.
03:27How you ever hold a conversation with each other is beyond me.
03:34I'm dying to know what Safi's good news is.
03:38Maybe I can somehow convince her to spill.
03:46I love how Moses always looks so passionate about his work,
03:50even when he's just crunching numbers.
03:54Hey, Moses, casually lean on the telescope.
03:58I might knock it over.
04:00Pretend.
04:17Hey, Safi.
04:18Mm-hmm.
04:23Find anything poem-able?
04:27Uh, the moon, kind of, though I'd hardly be the first.
04:34Carl Sandburg called it the moon of the moon.
04:40Kind of, though I'd hardly be the first.
04:44Carl Sandburg called it a friend for the lonesome to talk to.
04:49Pretty.
04:51I haven't seen a moon this bright outside of Oregon.
04:55Oh, a max biography nugget.
04:58Those are rare.
05:04You never really talk about why you came here.
05:10You already know.
05:12Your mom threw me a lifeline, pulled me out of Freelance Hill.
05:19One of these days, I'm going to find out what you're running from, Max Caulfield.
05:23That's a promise.
05:28OK, spill.
05:30What's the news?
05:31No chance.
05:32That vault is closed.
05:33You're killing me here.
05:35Are you really going to keep secrets from your dear friend, Max?
05:38You're one to talk, my dear.
05:47OK, I'll leave you to your muse.
06:08Hey, Moses.
06:10Doesn't some small party of you want to know what Safi's good news is?
06:19All right.
06:21I think I have an idea.
06:23But once we go down this road, we can't turn back.
06:27Um, OK.
06:32Give this to Safi, if you can.
06:34You'll probably have to trick her into taking it or plan it on her.
06:38Like a prank?
06:39No.
06:40This has rules.
06:42So it's more of a game.
06:44Whoever holds the bottle cap has to do whatever you say.
06:48Well, within reason.
06:51Moses, I have literally never wanted to play a game more in my entire life.
06:57You say that now, but Safi has a very loose definition of within reason.
07:02She'll come for you next.
07:04OK.
07:05Wish me luck.
07:15OK, how am I going to plant this on Safi?
07:25Since Safi hasn't quit smoking yet, maybe I can use it to my advantage.
07:30I'm not above relaxing my principles to give Safi that bottle cap.
07:34There might be some other hiding places up here that could work.
07:40Could I hide the bottle cap in a snowball?
07:44Not sure I want to rely on my aim.
07:47I'd only get one shot.
07:49Safi eats these when she can't slip away for a smoke.
07:53It'd be totally normal for me to offer her one.
08:01OK.
08:11Now I've just got to deliver this to Safi.
08:18Hey, Safi.
08:23Want a piece of candy? There's a few left.
08:26Oh, twist my arm.
08:30Ah, shit. It's a conspiracy.
08:38Come on, Max. Surely you of all people would let a girl have her secrets.
08:45And violate the sacred covenant of the bottle cap? Never.
08:51You know I'm going to get you back for this, right?
08:53Less thready, more talk.
08:54OK.
08:56So, well, I've been shopping around a bunch of my poetry, right?
09:01Like, as a collection.
09:04And a publisher made an offer.
09:08For real? Oh my god, Safi! That's incredible! Congratulations!
09:18Thank you.
09:19Nothing's signed or anything yet, so I want to keep it under wraps until all the paperwork gets signed.
09:24Understood. Your secret is safe with me.
09:31Oh.
09:33Oh, shit.
09:35Hello?
09:37This is Safi.
09:40Yes, this is Safi Alaouine Fayyad speaking.
09:47Be right back.
09:54OK.
10:03So, would you really take pictures of the end of the world?
10:09Yeah. Think about it.
10:11I take photos of empty buildings. An empty planet? That's next level.
10:18OK. But it's like Safi said. Nobody is ever going to see them.
10:29Sure, but who cares? I take a lot of photos nobody ever sees.
10:36I want to go out doing something I'm good at, you know?
10:42Oh, what?
10:43What?
10:44No, nothing. Just didn't take you as a, it's the journey, not the destination, type.
10:51I mean, I guess I'm not. It's more like sometimes you reach the destination alone. And that's OK.
11:03Look at that. What a tail.
11:14Moses was right. This is awesome.
11:37Are you OK?
11:40Yeah.
11:41Yeah. All good. Just dizzy. Maybe the champagne.
11:48Think I'm going to take off. Get some rest.
11:51I can give you a ride if you wait a few minutes.
11:53No, that's OK. I think a walk will clear my head. Think so.
12:11OK.
12:42I'm glad Moses invited me out tonight.
12:57Caledon's a beautiful campus, but it's even better when it snows.
13:11Call me crazy, but I know that's everything I'm not.
13:18What a perfect day for walking home. I'll just catch up with Safi tomorrow.
13:23And promise this is what you want.
13:27Safi's chain-smoking again? I wonder what that call was about.
13:32And please don't wake me up.
13:36Wow, Safi. What did Mr. Snowman ever do to you?
13:51Now I know who's been leaving all that squirrel gore around campus.
14:06How far I'd go, cause I'd find you.
14:13I don't get to take a shot like this every day.
14:16Wow. You're really watching me, aren't you?
14:32This is not a test.
14:35Max!
14:36The emergency broadcast system is now in effect.
14:40I caused this. I caused all of this.
14:57Max?
15:00Hey. Hey, are you OK?
15:06Something's wrong.
15:09Safi!
15:11Hey! Come back!
15:30There's Safi. She seems OK.
15:36I feel like I should check on her anyway. Better safe than sorry.
15:55Shit!
15:57Safi, hang on!
16:06Oh, Safi's fine. For a moment I thought...
16:26Safi?
16:30Safi? Hey, you OK?
16:35Safi?
16:59Max!
17:05No.
17:10No.
17:35Max!
18:05Max!
