00:00We're here to promote National Smile Month. It's a month that is dedicated to just getting that
00:07information out there to the community on the importance of looking after your mouth and
00:13having good oral health because not only does good oral health help your mouth but it also
00:19helps the rest of your body as well. There's an impact on having good oral health to your general
00:24health and there's a lot of knowledge that people don't have there so we're really trying to get
00:29that knowledge out into the community and give advice. So my role as a dental hygienist is largely
00:38dental health prevention so I would basically educate patients on how to look after their teeth,
00:44the importance of dental hygiene and I would also help them with cleaning their teeth. I would do
00:50scalings of patients teeth to help them to be able to remove plaque effectively. Dental hygiene is
00:57the most important way for prevention so some of the simplest things you can do to have good oral
01:03hygiene is brushing. Brushing twice a day and by doing simple things like that you're going to
01:10prevent any oral health problems such as gum disease, tooth decay.
