00:00Following the series of yellow and red alerts in power grids,

00:04Meralco will implement 64 centavos per kilowatt-hour of additional electricity.

00:09Now that it's rainy season, is it possible to reduce the electricity bill?

00:13Bernadette Reyes witnessed it.

00:18Grace Longmayo's Meralco bill reached Php 6,000, higher than usual.

00:24It's too hot.

00:25Of course, everything works, especially the ventilator and air conditioner.

00:29I really need to get an air conditioner because I can't stand the heat.

00:32But this month, the bill for electricity will increase by Php 64 per kilowatt-hour.

00:37That's a Php 129 increase on the electric bill of typical houses

00:42that consume Php 200 per kilowatt-hour per month.

00:45As the consumption increases, so does the additional bill.

00:49The additional bill is due to the increasing generation charge

00:54or the cost of generating electricity, transmission charge,

00:57and feed-in tariff allowance that goes to the producers of renewable energy.

01:02We can see the tightness of supply coupled with the high demand.

01:09The price of wholesale electricity in the SPAC market has increased.

01:15We also have instances of yellow and red alerts.

01:21In that situation, the generation cost has been reduced,

01:24which is why the additional bill has been reduced.

01:27That amount is equivalent to Php 13 per kilowatt-hour,

01:30which is equivalent to three installments.

01:33That means there is a Php 4 additional bill per kilowatt-hour in July, August, and September.

01:40According to Meralco, aside from the price of electricity,

01:43the monthly bill may also increase depending on your consumption.

01:46Now that the rainy season has entered,

01:49the weather is getting colder, which may help to lower the monthly bill.

01:54Since demand is not as significant compared to the past few months,

02:00then we can say that probably, although it's quite early to say,

02:05maybe the price in the SPAC market will be softer as well.

02:13Yildi may be able to reduce the approval of ERC

02:16for the procurement of Meralco's supply from the Iliha Natural Gas Plant

02:20of South Premier Power Corporation.

02:22Meanwhile, Meralco is planning against the stealing of Metro,

02:26which is being sold online, which increased in 2023 compared to 2022.

02:33This is dangerous and is against the Anti-Electricity and Electric Transmission Lines Materials Pilferage Act.
