00:00 Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department Director Shuhaili Zain has

00:07 defended the force against criticism related to the murder investigation

00:10 of six-year-old Zain Ryan Abdul Matin.

00:13 He said police had acted within the scope of its powers under the

00:16 law all throughout the probe.

00:18 At a press conference today, Shuhaili also said no one should accuse the

00:22 authorities of any ill intentions.

00:24 He said this is because they have used all the legal provisions available

00:28 to investigate and conclude this case before coming to the prosecution stage.

00:32 Citing Section 28A(a) of the Criminal Procedure Code, Shuhaili said the

00:37 circumstances of the case warranted cutting off Zain's parents' access

00:41 to the media during their remand.

00:42 Zain's parents, Zayim Ikhwan Zahari and Ismanyirah Abdul Manaf, pleaded not

00:47 guilty to a charge of neglecting the boy today.

00:49 Meanwhile, Zain's grandparents are now out on bail after being detained for a day.
