00:00Bukit Ganteng MP Syed Abu Hussein Hafiz Syed Abdul Fazal has insisted that he is still

00:06an MP.

00:09In a statement, he said Bersatu's termination of his membership amounted to constructive

00:13dismissal.

00:15Syed Hussein said he received a notice from the party yesterday informing him that his

00:19name had been removed from the party's membership list.

00:23He also claimed that the party leadership made open threats against him and amending

00:27the party constitution was a tactic aimed to expel him.

00:31Syed Hussein said his status as an MP remained intact because Article 49 Sub 2C states that

00:37an MP shall not cease to hold the position solely by virtue of expulsion of his membership

00:42of his political party.

00:44However, Article 49 Sub A states that an MP's seat shall become vacant if they resign or

00:49cease to be a member of that political party.

00:53Bersatu contended that the memberships of elected representatives like Syed Hussein

00:56were terminated of their own accord by going against party directives.

01:00It said they must resign from their elected posts as they have ceased to be a party member.
