00:05 Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're looking at our favorite Easter Eggs found in Zelda boss fights,
00:10 ranging from silly jokes to secret ways of defeating them.
00:14 "I'm sorry, but my power isn't strong enough. I can't hold-"

00:31 Ganon's Custom Swords - The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker
00:37 It's always a good time when Phantom Ganon shows up, not just because it's usually a fun fight,
00:48 but because he comes with cool Easter Eggs.
00:51 When he appeared in Wind Waker, fans translated the Hylian on his sword to read "Zubora Gabora",
00:56 which are the names of the two swordsmithies in Majora's Mask.
01:00 There's a bigger connection in the fight against the actual villain, though,
01:10 as his swords read "Kotake Koume", the twin witches that act as Ganon's surrogate mothers,
01:15 and who have appeared in several entries.
01:17 This Easter Egg was carried over to Tears of the Kingdom as well.
01:20 Phantom Ganon's weapons have the same inscriptions of his mother's names.
01:24 Bongo Bongo on Ice - The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
01:35 The traditional order of Adult Link's dungeons in Ocarina of Time are Forest, Fire, Water,
01:49 Shadow, and Spirit. However, you don't have to do them that way.
01:53 If you head to the Gerudo area before tackling the Shadow Temple,
01:57 you can earn the optional Ice Arrows,
01:59 which will give you a significant edge over the Shadow Temple's boss, Bongo Bongo.
02:03 Normally, Link is meant to stun his hands with arrows,
02:14 causing him to open his eye, the natural weak spot.
02:17 But if you have the Ice Arrows early, you can freeze one hand,
02:21 causing the other to comically thaw it by punching it.
02:25 Bongo Bongo also opens his eye while trying to break free,
02:28 essentially letting you skip the first phase.
02:31 Link's Nightmares - The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening
02:41 Since the villains of Link's Awakening are literal nightmares,
02:48 the final boss takes on the form of several enemies during the fight that Link has faced before.
02:53 Some are obvious, like Agahnim and Ganon from A Link to the Past.
02:57 However, it also transforms into a Zol, a blob-like enemy found in older games,
03:02 Moldorm, a boss from several games, including this one,
03:05 a Lanmola, another old-school enemy, and its own final form.
03:10 There are also a couple of ways to make this fight much easier.
03:17 Using a sleepy toadstool on its first form, the Zol, will knock it out in one hit.
03:22 And using the boomerang on its eye during the final phase will do the same,
03:26 though this was removed for the 2019 remake.
03:28 Fun with Ikana - The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask
03:37 Ikana Canyon is one of the more interesting locations in Majora's Mask,
03:46 being home to a kingdom of the dead.
03:48 Eventually, Link comes face to face with Egos-Do-Ikana,
03:52 its ruler, and his two minions who challenge him to combat.
03:55 If Link wears the captain's hat, reminiscent of Ikana's ally Captain Kida,
03:59 they'll mistake Link for their friend before realizing he's way too small to be the real Kida.
04:04 Even funnier than Ikana shrieking "Tiny!" is wearing the Bremen Mask.
04:14 Normally, Link's Ocarina March he performs while wearing it causes small animals to follow him.
04:19 Humorously, it also works on Ikana's guards and briefly opens them up for an attack.
04:24 Theme for Dragons - The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
04:36 When it comes to Zelda, Nintendo loves a good musical easter egg.
04:50 The fight against Stallord and Twilight Princess is a fan favorite thanks to the fantastic use of
04:55 the dungeon's item, the spinner. Notably, Stallord is also a massive,
05:00 skeletal dragon, hurling giant fireballs at Link during the second phase.
05:05 The music that plays during this phase is a remixed version of what's heard in fights against
05:09 two other fire-breathing behemoths, King Dodongo and Volvagia, both from Ocarina of Time.
05:15 Using the same music for dragon-like creatures was a nice callback, but funnily enough,
05:29 the other dragon boss, Twilight Princess, Argorok, gets different music.
05:34 The same that's heard during the fight against the Water Temple boss, Morpheel.
05:38 Distracting Bananas - The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
06:00 One of the silliest things about the Yiga clan, of which there are a few,
06:05 is their obsession over mighty bananas. As Link sneaks through their hideout in Breath of the
06:09 Wild, dropping the fruit will distract the blade masters patrolling the area.
06:13 Interestingly enough, this strategy also works for Monk Maz Koshia, the final boss of the game's DLC.
06:26 It's hilarious seeing him ignore Link to giddily walk over to his favorite fruit
06:30 mid-battle. Since he's a Sheikah, and the Yiga defected from them long ago,
06:35 it both makes sense and gives us a hearty chuckle.
06:39 Not Your Average Weapon - Varius
06:55 This running joke is known by pretty much every fan by now,
06:58 but that doesn't stop it from being one of the best boss fight easter eggs in the series.
07:03 In multiple games, Link can use non-combative items to deal with his villains. This began in
07:09 A Link to the Past, where Link could deflect Agahnim's projectiles with the Bug Net,
07:13 rather than use the sword.
07:22 He could use a bottle in Ocarina of Time to the same effect. During Ganondorf's final phase in
07:26 Twilight Princess, you can distract him with the fishing rod and quickly swap back to the sword
07:32 for easy damage. Finally, in Skyward Sword, the net can be used to knock back Demise's
07:37 electric projectiles.
07:48 Mayan Chants - The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask
07:52 Nintendo constantly pulls from different cultures, mythologies, and ideologies for
08:04 aspects of Zelda. The first boss in Majora's Mask, Odalwa, borrows from the Mayans. Throughout
08:10 the fight, Odalwa chants three phrases in Mayan, which some fans have translated. Keep in mind,
08:16 it can be a bit hard to make out, and we're far from experts in anything Mayan. I'm also probably
08:21 about to mispronounce all of this, but what he seems to say is "Kinam tuk ul", which means "Head
08:26 will ache and burn", "Tukik talai", which means "Come burn", and "Alek bi ora", which means "Dance
08:32 now". Considering he produces a ring of fire and busts a few moves during the battle, it's
08:42 fittingly silly. Additionally, his name comes from the Japanese phrase "Odorua", which means
08:48 "I'll dance". Gotta love it.
08:49 Forest Haven Water - The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker
08:59 The Forest Haven is such a mystical place in Wind Waker that its water has special properties.
09:11 It's needed for a side quest where Link helps spread saplings from the Great Deku Tree to create
09:16 new forests on other islands. But it also has a hidden use that most players didn't realize
09:22 for years. Naturally, the same water that revitalizes the Deku Tree's saplings is
09:27 completely toxic to Kaledemos, the boss inside the Forbidden Woods.
09:31 Normally, Link uses the Boomerang to cut its tendrils, which allows him to attack its head
09:41 once the flower-like bulb opens. However, instead of attacking its head, pouring the
09:46 Forest Haven Water on it kills it immediately. Landmarks - The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
10:07 Most of us were probably too busy fighting Calamity Ganon to pay too much attention to
10:12 his arena. But it actually holds an incredible easter egg. Along the walls are murals of
10:17 landmarks across Hyrule. More than that, this is a 360-degree representation of the castle's
10:23 surroundings. So, for example, the northern wall depicts the Great Hyrule Forest, itself which is
10:29 directly north of Hyrule Castle. Since you can't enter this room without starting the fight or
10:34 using a glitch, we didn't notice for a while. These murals are also seen in the final room of
10:39 the DLC's Master Sword trials as Link ascends to power up his blade. But having these images be in
10:45 the exact direction from where Link stands, even Divine Beasts, is undeniably cool.
