Top ten kits for Euro 2024.
Transcript
00:00Yeah, so Turkey have took the decision to swap the colours of the Home and Away kits,
00:23which is certainly a brave one to say the least.
00:25But I'd say Nike have succeeded with their latest effort for Turkey.
00:29Their centralised badge and swoosh always has a certain air of traditional elegance
00:32to it and is something 442 is enamoured by, if executed correctly.
00:37And yeah, personally I really like the horizontal red slash as well in the upper part of the
00:41kit.
00:42It really helps contrast the two colours and of course the Turkish badge is central in
00:45that red slash as well.
00:47So all in all, a very elegant kit.
00:49In at number 9 we've got Italy Away.
00:51I mean the colour scheme here, oh, mwah.
00:53Yeah admittedly it feels a little bit wrong when Adidas are the ones creating kits for
00:57Italy, but this shirt is a simplistic masterpiece.
01:00We know what Adidas can be like.
01:02They often use template designs for several kits that they make and they've done this
01:05with Italy which is quite a risk, but in this instance it's certainly paid off.
01:09I think it's because of how subtly the Italian flag is represented on this kit.
01:12On the right hand side you've got the green stripes and then on the left the red and then
01:16the white through the body of the shirt in the middle.
01:18Very subtle but very, very beautiful.
01:21And yeah, in summary just a clean, fashionable aesthetic that is no less than expected from
01:25a nation like Italy.
01:26In at number 8 we've got Portugal Away.
01:28Yeah, Away kits offer teams and manufacturers time to experiment, the freedom to create
01:32a design that is, you know, truly different to the essential need for like, you know,
01:37the traditionalism of a home kit let's say.
01:39It's got a very off-white finish this kit which is a major aspect of Portuguese architecture
01:43and it gives this kit, you know, a real kind of flourish.
01:46Still though, I'm sure Cristiano Ronaldo will find a way to moan about it.
01:49In at number 7, this one is simply beautiful, it is France's Home Kit.
01:53Over the years of Dark Navy, France have reverted back to a brighter, bolder blue that
01:57feels truly French.
01:59And I mean that as a compliment.
02:00I mean, as much as France should look oh so cool in deeper shades, there's something
02:03nostalgic about this shirt that I just adore.
02:06It is a callback to the older kits of the 80s and 90s with Zidane and Platini wearing
02:10them and with Kylian Mbappe, the poster boy of this team, it's a kit that's truly worthy
02:14of success this summer.
02:16In at number 6 we've got Belgium's Home Kit.
02:18It's classy, it's regal, it's elegant.
02:20The latest Belgium home shirt is perhaps the nation's classiest ever kit, I'd say.
02:25It almost reminds me of the Arsenal kit when they signed off from Highbury in 2006, if
02:29you kind of know what I mean.
02:30Belgium have always sort of had a more bolder red, but they've gone for a deeper red this
02:33time round at Euro 2024.
02:35I don't know if this parallels with the Highbury thing and this maybe being the last of their
02:39golden generation, but I think a fair few of them have dropped off now.
02:42I don't really know.
02:43But yeah, the golden touches are very, very stunning while the base pattern really helps
02:46to sort of elevate an already beautiful looking shirt.
02:49So for me, this is a borderline 10 out of 10.
02:52In at number 5, Denmark's Home Kit.
02:55After deciding to implement a monochromatic design on the World Cup shirt in 2022 in process
03:00against the tournament being held in Qatar, Hummel have decided to opt for a unique square
03:05design in varying shades of red that looks absolutely fantastic, to be honest.
03:09It does have a slightly old school feel to it too, what with the polyester look earning
03:13a couple of 10 out of 10 ratings from our critical judges at 442, but those Hummel logos
03:18on the shoulder also add a couple of extra marks, that's for sure.
03:22In at number 4, we've gone for the Netherlands Away Kit.
03:25And you know, at first glance, this Dutch kit simply looks navy with hints of orange
03:28accents.
03:29Upon closer inspection, though, is where you get to marvel at the true beauty of this kit.
03:34It's inspired by the block shapes of dishtijl, if I've said that right, the 20th century
03:38movement of Dutch artwork in which the likes of Piet Mondaerien created minimalistic artwork
03:43consisting mostly of rectangles of colour.
03:46And Nike have followed suit and paid homage to this, with the blue and orange for something
03:50modern, sleek and quintessentially Dutch.
03:53In at number 3, the Austria Home Kit.
03:55Yeah, sprucing up a red jersey can often be problematic for some brands, but Puma have
03:59absolutely smashed it out the park with this one.
04:01The round neck collar and white accents are absolutely stunning, while the bespoke graphics
04:05meant all of our judges at 442 rated this one highly.
04:09The bespoke graphics are inspired by a Dugansteel architectural design, an artistic movement
04:13that came to prominence towards the end of the 19th century in Austria.
04:17So not only does this kit look cool, but there's a historical relevancy and meaning behind
04:21the kit too.
04:22In at number 2, we've got Germany's Home Kit.
04:24And some of you might be thinking, how the hell have you ranked at number 2 a shirt that
04:27resembles year 6 disco flame shirts?
04:30Well, let me tell you.
04:31It reminds me of a simpler time, you know, when England hoped but never really believed
04:35in success.
04:36But yeah, Germany's new shirt utilises the iconic geometric patterns on the shoulders,
04:40while there's plenty of subtle detailing.
04:42At the base, there's a pattern resembling the logo of the old DFB, the German Football
04:46Governing Body, making this one ornate without being over the top.
04:50Plus, it's the actual penultimate Germany kit manufactured by Adidas we're going to
04:54see for a while, before they uncharacteristically switch to Nike in 2027.
04:58Disgusting.
04:59So, you know, enjoy the three stripes on the kit while you can.
05:03And finally, number 1 is France Away.
05:06Yep, a nation forever linked to luxury and artisanal creation.
05:09Their chained strip sees Kylian Mbappe and co earn their stripes with a beautifully traditional,
05:14ultra-sophisticated get-up.
05:16This one, much like the home kit, does hark back to the days of Michel Platini, when pinstripes
05:20ruled supreme in the 80s on France's Away shirts.
05:23There is a modern twist this time around that really elevates its stardom, with the lines
05:27converging from one side to the other to form the French flag.
05:30It is this subtle detailing which will no doubt see festival goers inevitably adorn
05:35this shirt in 20 years' time, with Mbappe's tan emblazoned on the back.
05:39And also, the golden oversized rooster does really help the French tricolour pop too.
05:44So yeah, Trebienne.
05:45Is that the right...
05:46I think that's the right thing.
05:47Anyway, yep, that's number 1.
