Taiwanese people throw away 650,000 metric tons of food waste each year, enough to fill Taipei's tallest skyscraper 10,000 times. School lunches are partly to blame.

00:00Taiwan generates enough food waste each year to fill more than 10,000 skyscrapers.
00:06Environment ministry numbers show that the country throws away about 620,000 metric tons
00:11of food waste annually.
00:13That's enough to fill Taiwan's tallest building, Taipei 101, 10,000 times.
00:19Much of the waste comes from school lunches.
00:21Major cities throw away between one and nine tons of food from school lunches every day.
00:27Nutrition surveys show that many do not finish their lunches because they don't like the
00:31food, but still report feeling hungry.
00:34Authorities say students need to be taught about nutrition and the importance of not
00:38wasting food, especially the usual suspect, vegetables.
00:42Indeed, in schools, the use of vegetables for children is relatively poor.
00:48It's the business and family education that make children like to eat vegetables.
