00:00In the coming week, Father's Day is just around the corner.
00:03A father will give us inspiration for what we will know today.
00:09Who is he? Let's watch this.
00:12The call of fatherhood is, in fact, a call of sacrifice.
00:16It is a call that will cost him all that he has.
00:19But for Atty. Erwin, being a father pushed him to achieve his dream and not give up.
00:27When I entered U.P. as a B.S. in Zoology,
00:32it turned out that the laboratory was not that good.
00:34So, I shifted to Political Science.
00:37I thought, maybe I can do Law after Political Science.
00:45He studies at night and works in the morning.
00:48But despite being busy with life,
00:51God has a way for him to find his passion.
00:55I had a co-worker.
00:57He told me that he had a sister.
00:59He showed me the picture.
01:01I thought, maybe I can get to know your sister.
01:05From there, I got to know her.
01:07And then, I said,
01:09this is what I want to get married to.
01:11She became my girlfriend until we got married.
01:15This is where we met and this is where we got married.
01:19But when we immigrated, we didn't have a child yet.
01:22So, we gave birth to our child there in 1988.
01:26So, after a year.
01:27Even though Atty. Erwin didn't finish his degree here in the Philippines,
01:31because he had to migrate,
01:33he still had hope to pursue this.
01:37It's a big struggle because
01:39when you get there and you apply for a job in the field that you want,
01:44what they are looking for is a local experience.
01:47They don't want an important experience.
01:50The local experience in the U.S.
01:52or education.
01:54I don't have any of those.
01:56So, I said,
01:58you have to. You can't choose.
01:59Especially if you have a family.
02:00Then, what job do I have?
02:03I got a job as a courier messenger.
02:06Later on,
02:08I got a job as a gas litter reader.
02:11I said to myself,
02:13I have to.
02:14Something will happen in my life.
02:17So, I applied to study in a law school.
02:20I studied there for a night.
02:23At least, the law school was only for 3 years.
02:28But I studied for 4 years because I took an evening course.
02:31And so,
02:33Malasuperdad,
02:34while pursuing his dreams, became Atty. Erwin's life.
02:37I studied for maybe
02:404 or 5 years when I started studying again.
02:45So, what our son did was,
02:47he was in kindergarten at the time,
02:50he said,
02:52Dad, let's go to bed.
02:55So, I said, son, I still have to study.
02:57So, he pulled me.
02:59So, I said, okay.
03:01You go to bed first.
03:02When you're asleep,
03:04I'll study again.
03:05So, that's how we did it.
03:07No, you'll reduce your sleep.
03:09That's the hard part.
03:10There's no school to be a father.
03:12So, you just have to play it by ear.
03:19That's how it is, right?
03:21So, when your son cries, you can go to him.
03:23You know what the reason is.
03:25It can be said that raising a child abroad is challenging
03:29because of the rules,
03:30especially in education.
03:32But it wasn't a hurdle
03:34for them to raise their one and only child properly.
03:37So, our son,
03:39we really encouraged him
03:42to attend his scout sessions
03:46at least once a week.
03:47We encouraged him to attend
03:51National Jamboree,
03:52World Jamboree,
03:54and become an Eagle Scout.
03:56The life of Atty. Erwin Bautista
03:58is one of the lives of fathers
04:01where not just one duty
04:04became a pillar of life
04:05and he was able to accompany his studies,
04:08work,
04:09and be a father.
04:11You just have to,
04:13not only as a father,
04:14but as an individual,
04:16follow your dreams
04:19and don't let your family down.
04:21Because in the process,
04:24you might want to achieve
04:25what you want in life,
04:27and you might let your family down.
04:29So, God has mercy on me.
04:30I wasn't able to let my family down
04:33and I was able to accomplish
04:36what I wanted to do
04:38to study and finish my studies.
04:40So, just continue with your dreams
04:42because when you surrender,
04:44because you're having a hard time,
04:46you won't be able to achieve it.
04:47To all the fathers,
04:49let us support our children
04:52and let us support our families
04:56in the good life of our family.
05:00So, Happy Father's Day
05:01to all the fathers.
05:06Happy Father's Day.
