00:00For a better supply of groundwater, a new tunnel is now being completed.

00:05Instead of the old ones that are filled with water,

00:09Maki Polido is the one who's in charge of it.

00:14The tunnel boring machine from Big T Basin to Ipo Dam

00:18has completed more than 6 kilometers.

00:21This is Tunnel No. 5, one of the new tunnels that will be used

00:25to give way to the old Tunnel 1 and 2.

00:30In these old tunnels, 120 million liters of water is wasted every day.

00:36Water that would have been used by more than 800,000 people.

00:40If Tunnel No. 5 is operational next year,

00:43two tunnels will be closed to be repaired.

00:46We still cannot say how much of the repair will be done

00:51in Tunnel No. 1 and Tunnel No. 2.

00:53But maybe because our conveyance system is too much

00:56because of Tunnel 4 and Tunnel 5,

00:59what will happen is that they will be on standby.

01:01More than P3 billion was allocated by Manila Water and Maynilad.

01:05But water consumers are paying for it,

01:08so it's part of our water bill until the next 25 years.

01:12It's worth it. What if it collapses?

01:15If our old tunnels collapse, we will lose water.

01:19The water in Metro Manila will not go down.

01:22Aside from Kaliraya Dam, the dams from Taginit have not yet recovered.

01:26The Angat Dam, which is 31.92 meters lower than its normal high water level,

01:31has not yet recovered.

01:34In July, it is expected that it will start to recover.

01:37But MWSS is asking for a higher allocation

01:41for domestic and industrial use in Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, and Bulacan

01:46to ensure that there is no water service interruption.

01:49MWSS is asking for a higher allocation of 52 cubic meters per second

01:53than the regular allocation of 50 CMS.

01:57Even if we are given 50, if there is too much water,

02:00we are the one requesting not to release water from Angat.
