With JP Nadda's exit as BJP president imminent after his cabinet induction, the party is weighing options for his replacement. Front-runners include Vinod Tawde, K Laxman, Sunil Bansal and Om Mathur. However, a surprise pick from UP or the party's first woman president like Smriti Irani is also being contemplated. The choice holds significance as the BJP introspects over its poll setback and chalks out a course correction strategy under new leadership.

00:00Hello there, this is me Ansh Pandey and you are watching One India English.
00:14The unexpected underperformance of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2024 elections has left
00:20the party into a self-introspection mode.
00:23Despite the predictions of showing better results than 2019, the BJP just secured 240
00:29seats, a net decrease of 63 seats.
00:33Though PM Modi managed to form a coalition government, the party right now is grappling
00:38with questions over what went wrong and the miscalculations that allowed the opposition
00:44to deal such a severe blow.
00:47As is the customary, the spotlight is now at the team captain.
00:51The BJP president, JP Nadda, right now is facing scrutiny.
00:55The party has made a mind to end his tenure as it looks like.
01:01In a move signalling his replacement, JP Nadda has been assigned the Cabinet Minister of
01:07Health Portfolio.
01:10The BJP adheres to the principle that a party leader holding a top administrative position
01:15cannot simultaneously hold the party leadership role.
01:19We have seen how Rajnath Singh became Home Minister and so the party presidency was
01:23transferred to Amit Shah and then when Amit Shah became Home Minister, the party presidency
01:28was given to JP Nadda and now JP Nadda has also been tasked with an administrative role.
01:34So with Nadda's exit as the party chief now imminent, the BJP is now gearing up to
01:40appoint a new party president.
01:43The self-introspection exercise within the party is expected to intensify as it seeks
01:47to identify the factors behind the poll setback and chart a course correction strategy for
01:53the future electorate battles.
01:56The BJP right now is weighing for options for the crucial post of party president with
02:00several names actively being discussed within the party ranks.
02:04However, the contenders Dharmendra Pradhan and Shivraj Singh Chauhan have been ruled
02:09out after their induction into the new Narendra Modi 3.0 cabinet.
02:14Now among the frontrunners is Vinod Tawde, a General Secretary of the party known for
02:20his organisational skill and influence within the party.
02:23Furthermore, K. Lakshman, the OBC Moorcha Chief from Telangana and Sunil Bansal, the
02:28General Secretary in charge of key states like West Bengal and Odisha are also being
02:32considered for the top job.
02:35Another name doing rounds is Om Mathur, a Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan with a strong
02:41RSS background and experience as in the charge of Gujarat, PM Modi's home state.
02:48However, the BJP may also surprise everyone with a wild card entry as it has done in the
02:54past too.
02:55There are whispers going on that apparently someone from UP will be given the task of
03:00rebuilding the fort, especially in the northern belt.
03:03It can also be someone close to CM Yogi or possibly Yogi Adityanath himself.
03:09No one knows.
03:11Also in the potential game-changing move, the BJP is also possibly toying with the idea
03:16of appointing the first-ever woman president.
03:20With the increasing participation and the influence of women voters, the party may also
03:23want to capitalise on the trend by appointing a woman leader at helm.
03:28Interestingly, the whispers from the Saffron Party circles is suggesting that former Union
03:32Minister Smriti Rani could be a surprise contender for the party position.
03:38The party may give Smriti Rani a chance to rebuild after her Amethi defeat.
03:44Rani with her aggressive style and multilingual abilities may be seen as a candidate with
03:50a point to prove after her recent electorate defeat and a big setback in the Amethi.
03:56As the BJP still remains tight-lipped over the potential candidates, the suspense continues
04:00to be built around the party's choice for its next president.
04:04A decision that is surely going to have far-reaching consequences both for RSS and also for the
04:10BJP.
04:11But, be very sure, BJP is known for giving up surprise name and even this time, the surprise
04:17could be stunning.
