00:00Many have found the diesel subsidy rationalisation, which saw the lifting of the blanket subsidy,
00:08as a surprise and urged the government to ensure smooth implementation.
00:12The public we spoke to had a mixed reaction to the decision.
00:16It's going to impact a lot, yeah, extremely expensive, all of a sudden, I mean they were
00:23talking about it but over the night they just changed it, yeah, it's quite surprising.
00:27Well obviously it's going to give a very huge impact to everybody, not only my business
00:31but everybody's business.
00:32I hope that there will be a better implementation with better procedures, even for the business
00:37owners or the lorries and trucks that are running for a commercial purpose, they must
00:43have a certain implementation to see how they're going to give subsidy to corporations or the
00:49business and also for individual users, yeah.
00:52Diesel oil is quite expensive, then there's the oil from the government, then there's
01:00my business, but the oil is quite expensive now, tomorrow it's going to be full, 1.5 litres
01:07too.
01:08Now it's 1.76 litres, quite expensive too.
01:12For the long term, if the government studied this and they feel like this is the best way
01:18forward for the nation, well, I guess everyone have to, you know, just get used to it, but
01:26I think, yeah, I mean the government has been helping us for quite some time, right, yeah,
01:32maybe it's time for us to wake up and live to reality.
01:48Food and beverage operators are taking a wait-and-see approach to potentially raising prices, depending
02:16on the impact of the diesel prices being floated.
02:46Of course we expect that prices will increase, our suppliers will increase the prices and
02:55that will push us to increase our selling price.
03:00When that happens, there's always an effect to the customers, they will stop coming for
03:06a bit until they, you know, get used to the new selling price and, yeah, that's what I'm
03:13worried about, because, you know, losing sales for a week or two is going to impact us for
03:20the month.
03:21I think we will wait and see how our suppliers react to this.
03:27Of course if they increase their pricing, then we also will be forced to increase our
03:32prices.
03:34Following the government's decision to lift a blanket subsidy, the price of diesel surged
03:39by over 50% overnight in Peninsular Malaysia to RM3.35 per litre.
03:46To alleviate the impact, the government has introduced a monthly handout of RM200 through
03:51the Budi Madani Cash Assistance to around 30,000 eligible Malaysians.
03:57Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said there was no closing date for
04:01applications under the Budi Madani initiative.
04:05He added that cash assistance was limited to one vehicle per individual.
