00:03 A Boston beat down last night in game number one
00:08 of the 2024 NBA Finals as the Celtics win by nearly 20
00:13 on the opening night of the NBA Championship Series
00:17 at home inside TD Garden.
00:19 After a full week off from NBA playoff action,
00:22 we expected this game to probably be closer in game
00:25 number one of the NBA Finals than the result we saw.
00:29 Boston blitzed them from the very start, 37 to 20.
00:33 The Celtics lead after the opening quarter,
00:35 and really it continued to be that way,
00:37 despite Dallas kind of mustering a comeback
00:40 in the second half.
00:42 107-89, the Seas easily cover as a 6 and 1/2 point home
00:47 favorite, a total that skied all the way up to 217,
00:50 and a hook does stay under.
00:53 Just the second cover DRS for the Boston Celtics
00:56 in their last seven games, now all 15 postseason contests,
01:00 the Celtics have been booked as the favorite.
01:03 We waited so long for game number one,
01:05 but also as I preached, because the heavy public side
01:09 was on the Mavericks getting the 6 and 1/2 points.
01:11 And sometimes we know how that works out,
01:13 similar to the Super Bowl.
01:14 Because typically it's like, OK, you
01:15 got two or three days to get ready for a betting.
01:17 Let's just see where the public's going.
01:19 But you have the public settling in for over a week
01:21 and deciding that the Dallas Mavericks should be that play.
01:24 But the sports books, like the FanDuel Sportsbook,
01:26 say no, no, no.
01:27 We're not lowering that number, despite getting 75% to 80%
01:29 of the tickets coming in on the Mavericks.
01:31 We're going to keep it around that 6 range
01:32 and actually increase it to 6 and 1/2.
01:34 The total, which I actually thought I agreed with,
01:37 going over, but the Boston Celtics
01:38 were very good on offense.
01:39 Dallas just didn't show up.
01:41 Now the tough part about this is we
01:42 are going to overanalyze based on game number one,
01:45 as if the Mavericks haven't lost any playoff games,
01:47 they're going to get swept in four games.
01:49 That's not going to happen.
01:50 But some of the key indicators that we looked at, Ben,
01:52 where you said to yourself, Boston
01:53 was so good during the regular season, home and away.
01:56 Boston was unbelievable at home.
01:58 Chris "Dubz" Porzingis is coming back into the lineup,
02:00 but the fact that All-Star, that you're
02:01 going to get back already on a solid club, that
02:04 was hammering Eastern Conference talent in the playoffs.
02:07 I just didn't see it coming away, because to be honest,
02:09 I missed tip-off for this game.
02:11 Around 9-15, 9-20, I'm like, oh, let me turn on the game.
02:14 I was like, wait a second.
02:15 Boston's already running away with it.
02:16 You go ahead, check out some major league baseball
02:18 sports, get back to the game in the second quarter.
02:20 It's even worse.
02:21 It's like, wow, this game is over.
02:22 And all of a sudden, that narrative starts to shift.
02:25 Is this a big as mismatch as we thought it was going to be?
02:27 Because technically, I didn't understand
02:29 what we were going to get in game number one.
02:31 But the Boston Celtics being good at home, check.
02:33 The Boston Celtics playing very good defense, check.
02:36 Porzingis coming back off of the bench
02:37 and looking like he never left the lineup, boy, oh, boy.
02:40 It's going to be tough to beat the Celtics based
02:42 on that one game narrative.
02:43 I loved what I saw out of the Celtics.
02:45 Hated what I saw out of the Mavericks.
02:47 So let's talk about trends, because part of a handicapped
02:51 DRS in the final month of the regular season,
02:54 when it was very clear the Celtics would
02:55 have a favorable path in the Eastern Conference,
02:58 and it was pretty darn clear that Boston would end the year
03:01 with the best regular season record,
03:03 giving them home for advantage throughout the entirety
03:06 of the postseason, Eastern Conference,
03:08 and beyond into a potential NBA championship series.
03:12 We talked about how dominant the Celtics were inside TD
03:15 Garden all year long.
03:18 Last night, game number one of the 2024 NBA finals
03:21 was game number 50 for the C's in Beantown this season.
03:26 They are 44 and 6 straight up in Boston.
03:30 Now 27, 21, and 2 against the spread, 8 and 7 ATS
03:35 as the favored side in all 15 games
03:38 here throughout their playoff run.
03:39 But last night was just the second time,
03:42 and now their nine home playoff games,
03:44 they were booked as a single digit favorite inside TD
03:48 Garden, and they entered only covering
03:50 once in their last six.
03:52 And you talked about the public betting on the Dallas Mavericks,
03:55 and frankly, DRS, it makes sense from an underdog perspective.
03:59 The Mavs entered the NBA finals 6 and 1
04:02 straight up as an underdog throughout this playoff run
04:05 that sees them in the NBA finals.
04:08 But it really did not matter last night.
04:10 Both teams over in five of their previous six games
04:13 entering this series, we stayed well under a total
04:16 on the rise of 217 and a hook yesterday.
04:21 (upbeat music)
