Tornado spins through Maryland

A confirmed tornado tore through part of Maryland as thunderstorms swept through the Northeast on June 5.

00:00 Things have really flared up here late in the day and the number one concern by far continues to be

00:06 Montgomery County, Maryland where we have a pretty aggressive cell that's been producing a tornado

00:12 at least at times over the past 30 or 40 minutes. This is the area of rotation here and you can see on the north side

00:18 look at that, Darnestown, Maryland, a very obvious tornado. Sometimes you might get scud that looks like this

00:24 but here you can clearly see without the shadow of a doubt an area of strong rotation there. So this is not

00:30 just some tornado look-alike but legitimate tornado activity there tearing through Darnestown, Maryland

00:36 all tied to this storm. So as we switch over to the velocity scan, again we're still very concerned about the

00:42 ongoing tornado threat. We have red outbound, green inbound and again the area of rotation is maybe a little

00:49 more evident at least when we look at things in this perspective here from the reflectivity.

00:55 But Old Knee-Ashley matter, take shelter if you're anywhere in eastern Montgomery County, Maryland

01:01 a confirmed tornado. This is a particularly dangerous situation tornado warning. Multiple reports and confirmations

01:07 you saw the footage there that spoke for itself and there's another more distant shot as well.

01:11 Good news along Interstate 95 in real time we just saw that one tornado warning near Joppatown expire

01:17 another cell here. Really this has been outrun so that's not something we need to spend much time on

01:23 but overall as we take you a little farther south just for the final frame here of radar data

01:29 we can show you that there is also a tornado threat moving into western parts of the area of Marion County, Alabama

01:36 eastern Itawamba County. But again if you're in Montgomery County, Maryland take shelter if you're in the area to the east.
