Severe thunderstorms pushed through Minnesota and surrounding areas on the evening of Sept. 19, leading to multiple tornado warnings.

00:00We have this area of low pressure making its way across Canada and on the leading edge of that it's kicking out a cold front and what that is doing is that is what's triggering these showers and thunderstorms and you can see this just long line of severe thunderstorms going from the Canadian border all the way into central Oklahoma and that's going to be the primary thing we're watching and tracking here as we head into this evening.
00:22So let's go ahead and take a closer look here at the Duluth area because this is where we're going to see the strongest storms here including that tornado storm that is pushing its way into Duluth right now.
00:31The warning for it just got reissued so yes this is going to be a very impactful storm.
00:37We're going to go ahead and switch over and show you the reflectivity.
00:40So there's the reflectivity for that.
00:42I'm going to switch over to the actual Duluth radar.
00:44So you can see over the past couple of radar scans I know why they're warning this storm because one or two, what happens is one or two of these radar scans look really scary and then after that what happens is these storms are rotating.
00:58So as they're rotating once they complete one complete rotation the rear flank downdraft pulls in and that little area of inflow gets choked off so the storm starts to dissipate.
01:08But then what happens is that it gets more rotation from winds being pulled in and then it starts to ramp up again.
01:14So I know why this storm got reissued for a tornado warning because once again every couple of radar scans you'll see this storm looks really, really scary.
01:21So that's what we're going to be watching for.
01:23One thing I also want to point out is that this storm to the south, this one that's pushing between Nickerson and to Blackhoof right there, that one is eventually going to start choking off this northern storm that is tornado warned.
01:35And what happens with that is that that ends up happening, when that ends up happening that ends up choking off the storm so that one ends up pretty much dying out.
01:43So that's what we're going to be watching out for that.
01:45So we will be seeing some additional tornado warnings possible here for these storms.
01:49We're taking a closer look up here.
01:50So this is the reflectivity.
01:52This shows you the intensity of the rainfall.
01:54We're going to switch over to show you the velocity.
01:56This shows you the overall rotation of the actual storm.
02:00And yes, you can see some weak rotation here pushing in.
02:03This is more broad in nature but still this storm, if it pulses up just right and with just the right conditions, yes, it could produce a tornado.
02:12But what's happening is that this storm is starting to move into a more populated area.
02:17So there's going to be a lot of eyes on this storm.
02:19So if it does end up producing a tornado, we're going to be able to catch it right here and right now here for you as it continues that track.
02:25So I'm going to freeze it right now and put a time of arrival.
02:28We'll see if we can get anything here on the storm track.
02:31So the area of rotation to watch for is right here.
02:34So it's moving up to the northeast about 35 miles per hour.
02:37So putting it up there, yep, it's going to be pushing into Duluth about 25 minutes right now.
02:42So we will be watching this very carefully here as the storm continues to move in.
02:46So overall, if you're in Duluth and you start thinking about taking your tornado precautions, I've been talking about this for what seems like almost an hour now.
02:53So watch out for that.
02:54But one thing I do want to point out, this northern storm, once again, it's showing some signs of reintensifying that rotation is coming up.
03:01So this northern storm just got rewarned as well.
03:04So we're going to continue to track this and we'll keep you up to date with the latest.
