00:00 "This is an actual band of musicians. They play together. We feel things out. We work out what
00:05 works best. Then we go and play them live and if there's another opportunity that comes up,
00:09 we discuss that in our next rehearsal and we adjust accordingly."
00:13 You may know Russell Crowe for his blockbuster hits Like a Beautiful Mind and Gladiator.
00:19 But did you know he's also a musician?
00:21 His band Indoor Garden Party is releasing a new album and set to kick off a European
00:29 and North American tour this summer. The album Pros and Cons is out Friday,
00:34 June 7th and features songs that cross all genres.
00:37 "This album has shaped and formed itself based on the band I recorded it with. A few of these
00:47 songs began life as IGP songs prior to putting this particular group of musicians together. But
00:54 it's been like a five year process since we started playing around with the songs and
00:59 probably of the original 11 or 12 songs I thought I was going to record,
01:02 there's maybe one or two that have survived that and the rest of the songs that have come along
01:07 since we've been working together."
01:09 He explains that he approaches songs a little differently than other artists.
01:13 "The way we approach songs is from the point of view of the strengths within the band.
01:22 The songs are probably a lot jazzier and groovier with this particular group of musicians than they
01:29 might have been with another group of musicians. So we're not trying to necessarily fit everything
01:37 under one heading. It's just like what is the song calling for?"
01:43 Catch Indoor Garden Party in America in August as Russell and his band tour the country.
01:49 "Well I haven't been in America for so long. I finished The Loudest Voice in 2019
01:54 and it just so happened, I've been working constantly but none of it's required me to come
02:00 back through America. I've been shooting in Thailand or Malta or England or Hungary or
02:08 Australia, all these different places but just not America. So certainly in terms of dropping
02:16 into Los Angeles to see a whole bunch of friends that I haven't seen for ages, that's going to be
02:20 cool."
02:20 Pros and Cons is out this Friday, June 7th.
