00:00Do you know that the word tambo doesn't come up as soon as you see a soft wallis in the Philippines?
00:06How sweet!
00:08That's because of the two materials that we usually use for wallis.
00:12There's what we call wallis tambo, which is what we often hear.
00:16But there's also a type of wallis that we call wallis lasa.
00:19Tambo or common reed is a type of grass that grows in wetlands.
00:26Lasa or tiger grass is also a type of grass that grows in deep areas such as the foot of mountains or the sides of rivers.
00:35Once a year, panicles or dried parts of the branches of these grasses are harvested.
00:40It's from March to December when lasa is harvested and it's from September when tambo is harvested.
00:45You should know that according to an article written by the author, W.H. Brown in 1919,
00:50wallis lasa is often used because it's more durable and that's why it's used in houses made of stone.
00:56That's what you should know!
01:20you
