Pat McAfee is apologizing for referring to WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark as a "white bitch" during a segment on his ESPN show. McAfee appeared on his ESPN show arguing that Indiana Fever star Clark is the singular reason behind the WBNA's surge in popularity and addressing claims that her race is what sets her apart. 00:12 Earlier on Monday McAfee appeared on his ESPN show arguing that Indiana Fever star Clark is
00:18 the singular reason behind the WNBA surge in popularity and addressing claims that her race
00:23 is what sets her apart. Well that's a bunch of bullsh*t. What you have is somebody special
00:27 and we're lucky she's here in Indiana. McAfee went on to say "I would just like the media
00:32 people that continue to say this rookie class, this rookie class, not just call it for what it
00:36 is. There is one white b*tch for the Indiana team who's a superstar." Though his speech was meant to
00:41 be complimentary, the term was met with backlash online. ESPN analyst Kim Adams wrote on X,
00:47 "This is just completely unacceptable. Interested to see how ESPN handles it. And his entire
00:52 argument is not conducive to anything going on in the WNBA right now. Just let the women hoop."
00:58 The host took to social media on Monday writing, "I shouldn't have used 'white b*tch' as a
01:02 descriptor of Caitlin Clark, no matter the context, even if we're talking about race being
01:07 a reason for some of the stuff happening. I have way too much respect for her and women to put that
01:11 into the universe. My intentions when saying it were complimentary, just like the entire segment,
01:16 but a lot of folks are saying that it certainly wasn't at all. That's 100% on me, and for that
01:21 I apologize." McAfee noted that he had also sent a personal apology to Clark and that the rest of
01:27 his speech was "still all facts." Clark was the number one pick in the WNBA draft in April after
01:33 rising to stardom while playing for the University of Iowa. For more on this story, head to THR.com.
