00:00This graduation season, different kinds of garlands are being given to those who are about to graduate,
00:06including the money garland.
00:08But the DepEd has a reminder about that.
00:10Katrina Son has a report.
00:15Mary Joy Buri and her husband always see the money garlands
00:21that parents give to their children during graduation.
00:25So when the recognition day of the child came,
00:28they agreed to give her a money garland.
00:31But instead of paper money, they made a barrier.
00:36As a parent, I was envious that they have it and we don't.
00:40Then, we made our child a 50-peso coin.
00:44She was happy. Then, she immediately bought a candy of whatever she can buy.
00:4950 pesos.
00:51After this, many have asked her to make different kinds of garlands
00:57as a way to show her love for her child.
01:01Making garlands is also one of Joy Ferrer-Brendes' business.
01:06She has a ribbon garland, chocolate or candy garland.
01:09There are people who request that if it's possible,
01:12if it's not money, they will put candy or chocolate.
01:16The child who will move up on June 7,
01:18she also made a garland using her favorite chocolate.
01:22It's like happiness for our children.
01:25The public's reaction to the money garland is divided.
01:29I'm not in favor of giving money garlands
01:33because not all children are given money.
01:38I'm in favor of it because after their graduation,
01:41they will spend the money.
01:43DepEd Region 7 was the first to remind
01:46to be more careful in giving money to children to the public.
01:51Aside from those who will be hurt because they can't afford it,
01:55others may also think that it is done to get attention
02:00or to gain popularity in social media.
02:03Katrina Son reporting for GMA Integrated News.
