00:02 - Welcome to TMZ Sports, I'm Mike Babcock.
00:07 My guys, Edward Lewis, Lucas Widman.
00:10 Guys, we're gonna start with Mike Tyson
00:11 in a really scary moment for the boxing legend
00:16 over the weekend on a cross country flight
00:19 from Miami to Los Angeles.
00:20 Now, thankfully, and Mike has just broken his silence
00:25 before we stepped up here guys to do the show
00:27 and Mike says that he is okay.
00:30 So that's the silver lining here, that's the positive news.
00:33 Let's get into what was again a really scary situation.
00:36 So Mike Tyson over the weekend traveling
00:39 like a lot of people were Memorial Day weekend,
00:42 flying from Miami out here to Los Angeles
00:45 on an American Airlines flight.
00:47 Obviously Mike on July 20th has the big fight
00:50 with Jake Paul coming up.
00:52 I guess the question now might be
00:54 is that fight still going to happen?
00:56 Anyway, American Airlines Saturday,
00:59 about 30 minutes before the five hour flight was completed,
01:04 as the plane was nearing ready to land,
01:06 Mike experienced a medical emergency.
01:08 Now, we have since been told and we'll get into again,
01:12 some of the statements that we've gotten from his people
01:14 and from Mike himself, but Mike had a flare up of an ulcer
01:18 and because of that, he felt dizzy
01:21 and he felt really nauseous.
01:22 Now we said 30 minutes from landing,
01:24 but the situation was so dire on board the plane
01:28 that they actually went on the public address system
01:30 and they asked if there were any doctors on board.
01:33 Now, thankfully there was a doctor on board
01:35 who was able to attend to Mike
01:38 and get him to where he was okay until the plane landed.
01:41 Plane lands, everyone has to stay in their seats,
01:44 paramedics come on board, they treat Mike,
01:46 they take him off the plane and again,
01:48 guys we've since heard from Mike Tyson who says he's okay,
01:51 but July 20th, this man's got a professional fight
01:55 against a 27 year old hungry Jake Paul
01:58 and I think it's very fair now to ask the question,
02:00 is the fight going to happen and should the fight happen?
02:03 - Well, if you're asking Mike Tyson,
02:05 he says 100% it's still going to happen.
02:07 I'm feeling back to 100% now
02:09 and I don't even need to be 100% if I wanna beat Jake Paul.
02:13 So a little bit of humor there,
02:14 but I think this whole incident is a reminder
02:18 that Mike Tyson is in fact 57 years old.
02:21 I know a lot of people don't want to believe that,
02:24 especially given his amazing career
02:26 and the workout videos that he's been posting
02:29 over the past several months, leading up to this fight.
02:32 They're like, oh, there's absolutely no way
02:33 he's gonna have any issue against a former Disney star
02:36 and a YouTuber no matter how many years he's been training.
02:39 But I think this is getting people a little cautious
02:42 about what is actually going to go down on July 20th.
02:44 - I also think that there appears to be somewhat
02:46 of an effort to downplay this, right?
02:48 I mean, the Tyson's representative
02:50 saying he just was simply nauseous and dizzy
02:51 and Mike, obviously this morning,
02:53 is saying he's back to 100%
02:54 only two days after the incident.
02:55 But I mean, imagine that you're on a plane.
02:57 I mean, how many times have y'all been on a plane
02:58 and at any point have they asked for a doctor
03:01 over the PA system?
03:02 You know what I mean?
03:03 - No, it's very serious.
03:04 - That seems significant to me.
03:05 It's not just, oh, he's feeling a little bit queasy
03:08 and nauseous.
03:09 I mean, that's something that's significant.
03:10 And you're only, what, 60, 70 days away
03:12 from July 20th at this point.
03:13 Like, who knows if these wear ups happen in training
03:16 or the day before the fight or the day of the fight.
03:19 And then, you know, I don't think necessarily
03:21 this cancels it or anything,
03:22 but like to Luke's point, I think there's now some,
03:24 maybe we gotta start thinking about some precautions
03:26 or some backup dates or some backup fighters.
03:28 Because if it happens once on a flight from Miami to LA,
03:30 why is it not happening at a huge event in Arlington, Texas,
03:34 you know, before a big fight against a 27-year-old boxer?
03:36 - No, it just puts it into perspective.
03:38 And I think, and I'm guilty of this too,
03:40 and I'm that age that Mike was in his prime
03:42 and I was a kid and you think this guy is invincible.
03:44 But like they say, I mean, time is undefeated,
03:47 age is undefeated.
03:48 And even Mike Tyson ages, he's going to be 58 years old,
03:51 at least when he steps foot in the ring, he's 57.
03:53 Now, like Lucas said, this is the kind of thing
03:55 that can happen when you start to get a little bit older.
03:57 And I think you're absolutely right, Ed.
03:59 There certainly is an effort to downplay this here now.
04:02 And it's hard to sell the fight
04:04 if you've got people picturing a very old
04:06 and a sick Mike Tyson.
04:07 That's not the Mike that they want to show.
04:09 And to your point too, Ed, you're right.
04:11 I was on a plane one time and they called for a doctor
04:14 and it was for somebody who had actually passed away
04:16 on the flight.
04:17 It's not like you do that
04:18 because someone has a minor headache.
04:20 I mean, it's serious medical conditions
04:22 where you call for a doctor.
04:23 So we're glad Mike's okay.
04:26 Lucas read Mike's statement.
04:27 Mike says he's okay.
04:28 Whether or not this thing actually happens on July 20th,
04:32 stay tuned.
