00:00Mr. Speaker, I rise today to address the terrible precedent set in our country four days ago.

00:07Using the justice system to engage in a politically driven prosecution and now conviction of a

00:14major political party nominee running for president, especially on the charges brought

00:19against Donald Trump, should gravely concern every member of this body as well as every

00:25American across our country, whether they be Republican or Democrat, for Donald Trump

00:31or against him.

00:32Regardless of one's opinion of the current Republican nominee, we'd be well served to

00:37remember the long and cherished tradition we have in this country of settling our political

00:44differences at the ballot box.

00:47For nearly two and a half centuries, our nation's elected leaders have properly resisted the

00:52temptation to oppose their political rivals through the weaponization of our justice system.

00:59Equal justice for all.

01:01And an overall trust in our justice system is fundamental to who we are as Americans.

01:07And those who would destroy that hard-earned trust just to score cheap political points

01:13should be held accountable.
