00:22and widespread speculation about what's going to happen with WWE in the not-too-distant
00:26future.
00:27Whilst he was not going to pursue the WWE Intercontinental Championship after holding
00:32it for a record-breaking 666 days, it seemed pretty clear that he was taking a step up.
00:38The Intercontinental Championship was historically a title that was a stepping stone for superstars
00:43to the main event level of WWE.
00:46Icons like The Ultimate Warrior, Randy Orton, Macho Man Randy Savage, Bret the Hitman Hart,
00:51and others all made their name with the IC Strap before becoming WWE World Champions.
00:57By winning the King of the Ring crown, Gunther has not only secured a World Heavyweight Championship
01:03match, but he'll get it at one of the biggest WWE shows of the year, Summerslam in Cleveland,
01:09Ohio.

01:21From how things stand, it seems like Damian Priest or Drew McIntyre could be most likely
01:26the opponent that Gunther faces at Summerslam.
01:29But that's a long time away, and the ripple effects and ramifications of him being this
01:35King of the Ring with this title shot during this summer of 2024, it certainly shakes up
01:40the entire World Heavyweight Championship picture on Monday Night Raw.
01:44And it could get a little too crowded a little bit too quickly.
01:47Let's get into it.
01:49Now, the World Heavyweight Championship scene is occupied with Damian Priest as the title
01:53holder and Drew McIntyre as his next big challenger.
01:56They are confirmed to square off in McIntyre's homeland of Scotland at the Clash at the Castle
02:01event in June.
02:02Gunther is guaranteed to get in the mix at some point after that in the lead up to Summerslam.
02:07And so could CM Punk, who though he's currently injured, has stayed a pain in McIntyre's arse,
02:13helping to leave him vulnerable at WrestleMania for Priest to cash in on McIntyre right after
02:19McIntyre won the title.
02:21Is Gunther, much like CM Punk, going to be just another looming threat outside of a world
02:26title match that they're not actively in?
02:29Did we forget that also the original World Heavyweight Championship title holder, the
02:33man who broke that title into existence, is on a little bit of a break?
02:37Yeah, Seth Rollins is probably coming back for that title at some point as well, assuming
02:41he doesn't get bounced over to SmackDown once he returns.
02:44Now that we know McIntyre is facing Damian Priest in Scotland, it seems like being a
02:49perfect setup for him to win that big world title, have that huge moment in front of his
02:54home country, and get a wild reaction.
02:56I mean, honestly, we've heard the reactions from WWE fans overseas recently, and they're
03:01quite special.
03:02Imagine what it would be like if McIntyre won the world title in his home country.
03:06If he does win the title, then the next logical step would be him facing CM Punk, who's
03:11return from a tricep surgery neatly aligns with the summer of 2024 before Summerslam.
03:19Drew McIntyre and CM Punk is one of WWE's few blockbuster feuds right now that has an
03:24undeniable level of anticipation from both casual and diehard fans, and it happens to
03:30be with two men who can hardly even lay a hand on each other except only a few moments
03:36of brief but electric physicality.
03:39But Gunther winning the King of the Ring and getting that world title shot at Summerslam
03:42kind of means that we know, or at least we think we know, there's not going to be a
03:46McIntyre vs Punk match at Summerslam.
03:49At least not for the world title, anyway.
03:51In this scenario, where does Punk challenging a champion in McIntyre take place on a big
03:56event?
03:57Is Gunther the odd man out in this possible scene?
04:00Where is he, the rightful challenger for that title at Summerslam, going to play into a
04:05personal feud between McIntyre and Punk?
04:08That's an interesting question that doesn't have an answer just yet.
04:11The problem for Triple H and the creative team is in announcing that the King and Queens
04:15of the Ring are winners who get their title shots at Summerslam.
04:20It's a good problem to have.
04:21It gives even the most casual fan a sense of how to follow the action and who gets what,
04:26but it also gives those superstars locked in a lot of hype in the months to come up
04:31to Summerslam.
04:32We've seen this before, Royal Rumble to WrestleMania, but now they have to deliver on those months
04:37of hype and not lose momentum along the way.
04:41Another factor is the King and Queen of the Ring are boxed in in the sense that they can
04:45only challenge for the title on the specific brand that they've been drafted to.
04:49And while it may make a little bit of sense, it gives WWE a limited set of stories to work
04:55with in the next few months, especially pertaining to the World Heavyweight Championship.
04:59This means that both Gunther and the Queen of the Ring winner, Nia Jax, are just going
05:03to be biding their time until Summerslam.
05:06We know they're going to be in a big match, but how do you keep them interesting?
05:09Once again, keeping that momentum alive could be maybe them being on a small winning streak.
05:14There's a bit of a weird situation where you have two month gaps before getting a title
05:18shot.
05:19WWE's done this before, as we mentioned, in the road to WrestleMania, but now we're
05:22going to have a road to Summerslam element that could feel like what we get in the first
05:26quarter of the year.
05:27CM Punk's return seems to be timed for that summer of 2024 scenario, and admittedly, it
05:33could be a bit disappointing that we know he is unlikely to challenge for the world
05:36title at Summerslam, but hey, he's still CM Punk.
05:39Apart from Punk, there are four freaking superstars in that main event scene, which means not
05:43everyone can win the title, and it makes no sense to simply pass it around and hot potato
05:48it.
05:49But the reality is that fans are going to be disappointed one way or another.
05:52They're gonna bitch on the internet, and it means at least one of your favorite superstars
05:56out there, one of your favorites, won't be winning a world title anytime soon.
06:01But isn't it like that all the time?
06:03Yeah, we've heard people kind of lay out all these different scenarios.
06:06Gunther was definitely, though, the right choice to win the King of the Ring.
06:09There's no denying that he is ready to be a ruthless world champion in the future, just
06:15based on the sheer dominance he had with the Intercontinental title and raising the prominence
06:20of the title to a level it has not been in years.
06:23But in the end, there's only room for one man to be the world champion on Monday Night
06:27Raw.
06:28Gunther is also an example of how competitive and deep the rosters are now in WWE.
06:33There's a sense of excitement in the sense of it gives a potential storyline something
06:38special outside of just being a world heavyweight title chase.
06:42But even then, we can't help but notice there's an entire problem that Gunther and
06:45WWE will be facing that doesn't seem to apply to Nia Jax whatsoever.
06:50The fact of the matter is that with stars like Bianca Belair and Jade Cargo waiting
06:55and not being in the WWE Women's Championship picture, there's a much clearer path for
06:59Nia Jax.
07:00It's probably a sign that the women's rosters maybe need a little bit more of a depth, and
07:05even in this strong era, it's something we're starting to see.
07:08Perhaps the King and Queen of the Ring winners being able to choose either the World Heavyweight
07:13Champion on Raw or the Universal Champion over on Smackdown could be a better idea.
07:18But then again, WWE wouldn't want to mess with another Cody Roman Reigns style match
07:22if it's happening at Summerslam.
07:24It's not a bad problem to have in WWE right now, but as a fan, you should know that you're
07:29not always going to get what you want.
07:32Can't they just do the fantasy booking in my brain?
07:35Yeah, especially when there's simply so much competition.
07:38And with Gunther winning the King of the Ring, that's probably going to be the case for
07:41the remainder of 2024.
07:44Then again, if every single star could become a world champion, it wouldn't feel that
07:47special, right?
07:48It goes to show you what a special time we live in with the rosters simply being so stacked
07:53top to bottom.
07:54Those loyal to the Ring General should stay patient, because much like McIntyre assumingly
07:59getting a spotlight main event in his home region, there is a similar possibility for
08:05Gunther.
08:06Weeks after Summerslam, WWE will present another anticipated European Stadium event at the
08:12Bash in Berlin, in Germany.
08:15The Austrian wrecking machine Gunther, who broke out big in his pro wrestling career
08:18in Germany's WXW, should be treated like a regional hero in that setting at the end
08:23of August.
08:25Could that be his next crowning moment, and could it be even bigger than Summerslam itself?
08:30Time will only tell.
08:31It also begs the question, if Gunther is the King of the Ring, can he become the world
08:36champion?
08:37Is that what WWE wants to do with Monday Night Raw making the big move to Netflix in 2025?
