AFP offers to help PNP in probe on alleged Chinese spy

00:00The Philippine National Police or PNP welcomes the offer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines
00:06or AFP to help in an ongoing probe on an arrested Chinese national who is accused of espionage.
00:13Aside from firearms, the said individual is also yielded equipment that is usually used
00:18for hacking or spying on people.

00:25The arrested Chinese national who was later found out having alleged hacking gadgets underwent
00:32inquest before the court today.
00:34Aside from violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, he
00:39will also face cases of grave threat and access devices.
00:44It is also possible that he has acquaintances.
01:04The Armed Forces of the Philippines will also help in the investigation to determine if
01:10the seized items are used for spying.
01:13The Chinese national was first arrested in Makati City for pointing a gun and coercing
01:19the complainant to set up the gadgets in public places to access cell phones and other electronic
01:25devices.
01:26In a follow-up operation by the CIDG-NCR and AFP at his condo unit in Paranaque City, more
01:33hacking gadgets were discovered, as well as firearms.
01:37The foreigner previously said he has been in the Philippines for six years.
01:43While denying he is a spy.
01:45We understand that this is a sensitive issue in terms of our communications, hacking, nakitang,
01:55paraphernalia that were confiscated.
01:59So we treat this as a sensitive nature because it involves foreign national.

02:38If this is our investigation, it is possible that this is the person we arrested because
02:45there are allegedly items that were taken from him that are possibly being used to intercept
02:50some calls and other being used in scams.
02:55This of course involves the security of our country, so the assistance of the Armed Forces

03:02The PNP has also coordinated with the Chinese embassy regarding the suspect, Patrick Deasus,
03:27from the national TV, for a new and better Philippines.
