00:00The conference finals round of the NBA postseason has now come
00:07to a close. Boston, a sweep and only four games in the Eastern
00:11Conference finals over the Pacers. Dallas, a gentlemen
00:15sweep in five games, winning all three games in Minneapolis
00:19over the Timberwolves. So, here we are, JY. We'll talk about
00:23Boston in just a moment but let's focus on the Mavericks
00:26who actually entered the NBA playoffs with the third best
00:29price to win the Western Conference crown. If Luka and
00:33Kyrie could team up and perform at this level, there was an
00:37optimistic thought about the Mavs. And, JY, during the
00:41second half of this NBA season, not many better teams than
00:45Dallas. From February 3rd on, when they were just 26 and 23
00:50straight up, they went 24 and 9 down the home stretch, playing
00:55great basketball, not just here in the month of May but in
00:58April, March, and for the majority of February. What is
01:03the best thing the Mavericks have figured out entering the
01:06NBA Finals? Well, before anything, it's the fact that
01:11they made a trade for PJ Washington, Daniel Gafford,
01:14yours truly laughed at it, said that wasn't gonna move the
01:16needle and I was 1000% wrong. So, shout out to Nico Harrison
01:21for not listening to Coach Young because he made shrewd
01:25moves including getting Derek Lively. So, I think the
01:27evolution of this team really started with Derek Lively in
01:30the draft but really turned the corner when they made the trade
01:33for those two guys because you know what it did? It shored up
01:37their defense. It gave them guys that are rebounders. I got
01:40a guy in Gafford that's a shot blocker. PJ Washington's got
01:44really good at that corner three. So, once that trade
01:47happened and it kind of settled that roster, got everybody
01:50rules. Plus, honestly, let's getting rid of Grant Williams
01:53was probably the best move out of all of them because I think
01:56the drama he was causing in the locker room. The team turned
02:00then with that trade and they've been really good. It'll
02:04be interesting to see how they stack up in this series versus
02:08Boston. Particularly, you're looking at a team that is only
02:1118th in defensive rating. That is gonna be one of the things
02:15we have to look at is how can their defense which has been
02:18markedly better with Washington and Gafford. The evolution of
02:22Jones has become one of the better perimeter defenders in
02:25the league. How do they slow down almost a historic offense
02:29in the Boston Celtics? It's gonna be fun to watch it play
02:33out. We'll take a look at just a few moments like the odds
02:35movement but coach talk to me about the Mavericks because the
02:37one intriguing thing I know about this series is you have
02:40the two superstars on both sides. The two front end guys
02:43that can really get after it but the depth of the Boston
02:45Celtics appears to be better than the Mavericks here. If you
02:48are the Mavericks, forget about again, the two superstars on
02:51each side. How can the Dallas Mavericks compete from their B
02:54and C players and their bench players going up against the
02:56Boston Celtics, B, C, and bench players? Well, honestly, it's
03:00gonna be hard. It can't be the B and C players. They're they're
03:05A players. Luka and Kyrie gotta outplay Tatum and Brown. Let's
03:09be honest. That is where this thing is lined up because if
03:12they could play at a superstar level like the way they played
03:16last night, then everybody else falls in the line and you don't
03:20have to depend, Donnie, on a lot of those other guys. The
03:25interesting thing we want to look at is is the fact that
03:28you're going to be having Drew Holliday and Derek White, two
03:32guys that were on the all defensive, I think first and
03:35second team, if I'm not mistaken, guarding those guys.
03:38So, how well can Luka and Kyrie play versus two top-notch
03:44defenders in Holliday and White? And I think if Dallas
03:49could sustain that and those guys play really well, then it
03:52puts less pressure on the rest of the guys, if that makes
03:56sense. Because if you try to line up the B guys and the C
03:59guys, Boston's got it, particularly when Porzingis
04:02comes back. It's about how much can Dallas' A guys outplay
04:07Boston's A guys. If they do it by enough of a margin, I think
04:11they could offset the B and C and give them a chance to win
04:14the title.
