Traffic police officer is sacked - for speeding

A traffic cop who once warned speeding drivers "this is not Silverstone" has been sacked after clocking up 154mph in a police car while on duty.

PC Adam Smith was dismissed by North Yorkshire Police after a misconduct hearing found him guilty of gross misconduct.

Smith - who was filmed in a force publicity video aimed at cracking down on 'street racing' in Selby - was clocked doing 154mph and 98mph on the same journey.

The hearing was told both incidents happened on the A1(M) northbound and that there was no police purpose for the excessive speed.

He admitted his behaviour breached the standard of professional behaviour and amounted to Gross Misconduct, a report of the hearing said.

Smith was sacked with immediate effect and placed on the college of policing barred list.
