00:00 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. called on the business leaders in Brunei
00:05 to consider the Philippines as an investment destination.
00:08 The two-day state visit of President Marcos Jr. in Brunei was a success.
00:13 The details in the report of Allan Francisco.
00:16 Rise and shine, Allan.
00:17 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. encouraged the business leaders in Brunei
00:24 to consider the Philippines as an investment destination.
00:28 In his visit to the Philippine Business Forum,
00:31 he reiterated the commitment of the Philippines to regional economic integration,
00:36 just like the success story of the Filipino chain Jollibee in Brunei.
00:41 Today, there are 11 Halal Certified Outlets in Brunei,
00:45 which proves the appreciation of Brunei for the Filipino brand.
00:49 I am delighted to share the positive developments from the Philippines
00:53 and to discuss how we can advance and strengthen our collaboration with Brunei,
00:59 leveraging the benefits of our partnership through ASEAN,
01:02 the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement or RCEP,
01:07 and the Brunei Darussalam Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area, BIMP-IAGA,
01:14 for a prosperous shared future.
01:16 President Marcos also sees the potential in agribusiness,
01:20 renewable energy, and halal industry development.
01:24 According to the President, the Philippines' Trade and Investment Policy Framework,
01:27 which is based on the assistance of ASEAN and RCEP,
01:29 is the leading agenda for regional economic integration.
01:33 President Marcos' visit to the Philippine Business Forum
01:36 is part of the government's effort to show the country's strong economy.
01:41 It was organized by DTI in cooperation with the Agriculture Department
01:45 in the Brunei Economy Programme, which is supported by the Philippine Embassy.
01:48 Before that, the media also interviewed Tourism Secretary Cristina Frasco,
01:53 where she thanked President Marcos for expanding the tourism of the country,
01:57 including Brunei.
01:59 For tourism to be strong, the Philippines is also looking at direct flights from Brunei
02:04 to Cebu and Clark, Pampanga.
02:06 Meanwhile, the President also said that they talked to Sultana Sanal Volquilla
02:10 on strengthening the relationship between the Philippines and Brunei.
02:14 I am pleased to highlight that the Philippines and Brunei
02:17 are particularly focused on two key economic corridors.
02:22 The West Borneo Economic Corridor, encompassing Brunei Darussalam,
02:26 and the Greater Sulu-Sulawesi Corridor, covering Palawan and parts of Mindanao.
02:33 These corridors are strategically designed to integrate production with supply chains,
02:39 offering abundant opportunities for SMEs to flourish.
02:44 At the State Banquet, President Marcos and Sultana Volquilla also talked.
02:48 I would like to thank the hospitality that has been shown by Your Majesty
02:54 and the Royal Family of Brunei and the people of Brunei.
03:00 This reflects the warm relations that our countries have had for a very long time now.
03:09 It is timely that I have my first state visit as President here to Brunei,
03:16 as this year we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of our diplomatic relations.
03:23 It is also particularly important that we conduct this state visit,
03:28 as we are now presently faced by many global challenges
03:33 for which Brunei and the Philippines have very many common interests.
03:38 So it is important that we continue to work together on a bilateral basis,
03:44 also together with ASEAN, with BIM-PIAGA,
03:48 in all of these methods by which we can plan together for our own communities,
03:56 but also for the peace and the stability of the region,
04:00 and not only for Asia, but for the Indo-Pacific as well.
04:04 Your visit is a testament to a strong friendship and close relations
04:14 since our diplomatic relations were established 40 years ago.
04:21 I also fondly remember your first visit here in 1984,
04:29 when you accompanied your late father, President Marcos Sr.,
04:35 during our inaugural National Day celebration.
04:41 The enduring ties that we enjoy at all levels today
04:47 truly reflect our shared history and accomplishments
04:53 initiated and built upon during the presidency of the late President Marcos Sr.
05:02 Since then, our countries have cooperated closely
05:08 in education, health, and people-to-people exchanges.
05:15 Brunei Darussalam is committed to further strengthen these important relations
05:22 to protect and safeguard our common aspirations.
05:28 Therefore, I'm pleased that the documents signed during your visit, Mr. President,
05:36 will further contribute to our country's continued growth and development.
05:43 The President is now traveling to Singapore for his working visit
05:47 in the Dialogue on Shangri-La.
05:49 The fact that they asked the Philippine President to come and speak on that very subject
05:54 is significant in the sense that it is a recognition that there are challenges
06:00 that are facing the Philippines specifically,
06:03 and not only the Philippines, but this affects the region and it affects the world.
06:08 So what I will present in the Shangri-La Forum on the day after tomorrow
06:16 is going to essentially try to explain the position of the Philippines
06:24 both legally and geopolitically and diplomatically.
06:30 From the Seri Bigawan in Brunei, I'm Alan Francisco for Pabansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
