Dodgers End Losing Streak with Doubleheader Win Over Mets

00:00 How could the Dodgers snap a five game losing skid ahead of a doubleheader
00:05 yesterday in Citi Field against the New York Mets? They win both of those
00:10 two games after a rainout on Monday's Memorial Day slate. The Dodgers and the
00:16 Amazons square off for two yesterday. It doesn't matter if it's Edwin Diaz, it
00:21 doesn't matter if it's Adam Ottovino, the Mets cannot hold on to a lead when
00:26 they are up in the top of the ninth. Yesterday the Dodgers even it at two in
00:31 the first game of the doubleheader. Freddie Freeman hits a two-run shot in
00:35 the top of the tenth in extras. The Dodgers at on another run. They win five
00:40 to two in the opener. Booked as a minus 210 money line favorite, the Dodgers make
00:45 good on that price with Tyler Klass now on the bump and Tyler McGill on the
00:50 other side for New York. Sensational. Game number two DRS. The Dodgers hit a home
00:55 run in the first. Will Smith, they never look back. They win game number two by a
01:00 final of three nothing. Booked as a minus 126 money line road favorite up in
01:06 Queens against the Mets. Bad times for New York, good times at least for the
01:12 Dodgers snapping a five-game skid with two straight wins. They needed that and
01:17 usually you come into a doubleheader and say we're probably just gonna get a
01:20 split here but also if you're the Dodgers you haven't scored a run, your
01:24 offense has been terrible over the past couple games. You find yourself down to
01:27 nothing. Oh no, we're gonna get shut out in game number one. We better win game
01:30 number two. They end up winning both of those because the Mets just can't close
01:34 anybody out. Whether it's Edwin Diaz coming in to close or you give him a
01:37 breather and bring somebody else in, it doesn't matter. Things aren't happening
01:41 for them late in the innings and that is troublesome because there's no more
01:44 demoralizing defeat in Major League Baseball than having your bullpen blow
01:48 a multi-run lead late in the game when you expected to win that game and have a
01:51 formidable closer like the Mets actually have but their bats aren't waking up.
01:55 They sit 22 and 31 now in the season but also more important from a Dodgers
01:59 perspective, you get that doubleheader sweep win. Now you're feeling good like
02:03 okay we're wiping those bad vibes away over the past four to five days. Let's
02:06 get back on it and see if we can destroy the Mets even more but the question
02:10 comes down to we know the Dodgers are good. Coming into the season, we didn't
02:13 expect a lot from the Mets but I don't think anybody, even the harshest critic,
02:17 expected 22 and 31 out of the gate. I don't know what the future for the Mets
02:21 is but right now that future is playing bad baseball. 22 and 32 DRS. It's even
02:27 worse than 10 games. Below 500. No, I feel you there. The New York Mets weren't even
02:34 500. 18 and 18 on May the 7th. From that point, New York is 4 and 14. They have
02:40 lost 14 of their last 18 and they've had a lead at some point in the baseball
02:44 game for many of those 14 losses. The Dodgers a favorite in both of the
02:50 doubleheader yesterday despite being on the road, despite dropping five straight
02:54 entering. The Dodgers have now been favored in 55 of 57 games this year.
03:01 World Series rematch yesterday got started in Arlington and like we saw
03:06 last October into early November, the Rangers victorious over the Arizona
03:11 Diamondbacks. Texas wins the opener of this midweek set 4-2 over the D-backs.
03:16 A three-run bomb from Corey Seager in the bottom of the fifth. His seventh
03:21 long ball in the last seven games for Texas was the difference. The Rangers
03:26 were booked as a -130 home money line favorite. They win game number one 4-2.
03:31 That's a nice win by them too and also we're taking a look at the superstars in
03:35 the middle of that lineup. Abelis Garcia hitting 237. Seager even as you said
03:39 seven home runs in seven days only hitting 259 on the season and Marcus
03:43 Simmons has been a wonderful leadoff guy there for the Texas Rangers. He's hitting
03:47 below 250 as well. You're waiting for that offense to take notes but also keep
03:51 in mind the Texas Rangers they can afford to have a slump to start the
03:55 season. Why Ben? Because they play in the AL West and nobody's gonna run away with
03:58 that as long as you hang out around 500 you have a legitimate chance there. You
04:02 take a look at the Arizona Diamondbacks. We're at 25 and 29. You can't hang around
04:06 that 500 mark because the Los Angeles Dodgers are going to be there and
04:10 certainly running away right now with that division. So you're taking a look
04:13 from two different perspectives like Arizona, Texas same boat but not
04:16 necessarily just because of the leagues and the divisions they play in but I
04:20 love what I'm seeing out of Corey Seager here. Eventually that engine is gonna get
04:24 going on that offense which does include Adoles Garcia in the middle of that
04:27 lineup. I think they'll be fine and to me if I'm betting on one team moving
04:32 forward in the West it's probably the Texas Rangers. Yeah so right now Texas
04:37 gets the victory. They entered yesterday dropping 10 of their last 13 games. Still
04:42 three games below 500, 26 and 29. The D-backs entered three games below 500.
04:48 They now fall to 25 and 29. The good news for Arizona if there is a silver
04:55 lining outside of the Dodgers, Phillies and Braves and Atlanta's had some issues
05:01 here as of late of course based on injuries as well. Only three other teams
05:07 in the National League even have a winning record above 500 and those three
05:11 other teams are no better than two games above 500. It's the Giants and the
05:16 Padres playing better baseball within the National League West. San Francisco
05:19 has won eight of its last ten games and the Chicago Cubs who are a game above
05:26 500. So not terrible for the Arizona Diamondbacks if they still want to make
05:31 a run to a wildcard spot of which they did last year and of course it ended in
05:36 a pennant in the National League. The D-backs and even 507 and 7 straight up
05:41 in their last 14 games. Again as we look at the World Series hangover, Texas three
05:47 games below 500. You can see their prices to get back to the pennant much
05:51 better than that of Arizona and to Donnie's point there's only one team in
05:57 the American League West that has a winning record and it's the Seattle
06:01 Mariners. The M's have won both of their opening two games this week in a series
06:05 against divisional foe the Houston Astros. The Mariners victorious
06:08 yesterday after a three-run eighth. They also win 4-2 over Houston. Booked as a
06:15 slight home money line favorite. They make good on that number. The Astros
06:20 Donnie now four and six in their last ten games after playing some better
06:24 baseball entering this ten game stretch. Yeah it's tough look you're going on the
06:28 road against a good opponent in Seattle you're supposed to lose more games than
06:31 you win that's just the nature of the beast but we've been saying this for
06:34 quite some time on the Astros. When are they going to get started? Terrible start
06:38 to the season you should have write them off then they go in a little bit of a
06:41 winning streak then you look at the standings and realize that nobody wants
06:44 to run away with the AL West but maybe this is just the Houston Astros that we
06:48 expect where maybe they're just a 500 baseball team a little bit more or a
06:52 little bit less which won't be enough to get them into the playoffs which there
06:56 is a lot of pedigree on that team that says championship but that team Ben
06:59 right now certainly not playing like it here and it's a surprise to see Kyle
07:02 Tucker go 0-3. It feels like he homers every game but look out to
07:06 Bay in the leadoff spot around 300 nobody else really helping it out outside
07:10 of Kyle Tucker that needs to change. The Astros and Mariners still tied for the
07:15 third best price to win the American League pennant at plus 7.50. More around the bigs up next.
07:20 Live right here on this Wednesday on the early lot recapping a full day around
07:26 Major League Baseball from a Tuesday. American League Central divisional duel
07:31 that has seen the twins take two in a row over the Kansas City Royals.
07:35 Yesterday in Minneapolis the second straight victory for the twins. They won
07:40 6-5 in game one. Close but a one-run victory. Yesterday two-run win for
07:47 Minnesota. 4-2 booked as a home money line favored against KC.
07:51 Cole Ragan's three earned over five innings did strike out seven but picked
07:57 up his third loss of the season for KC. The twins who were going through a
08:01 little bit of an issue here with scoring some runs but playing the Nationals here
08:05 than the Rangers and now the Royals. They've been playing very good baseball
08:08 as of late and I've always liked that lineup. When you take a look even at RBI
08:12 props they have a lot of left-handed batters that they can place in against
08:15 righties and it makes the lineup interesting. Like Margot was at the top
08:18 of the lineup yesterday only hitting 208 on the season but picked up two hits.
08:21 But you know the normal suspects there right? The Keplers, the Carreys, the
08:24 Jeffers, the Buxtons who just came back from injury. And by the way Buxton goes
08:28 two for two yesterday. That's a nice improvement to get back into that lineup.
08:32 Santana has been very good for them. Yeah only hitting 200 but as of late coming
08:36 through with some RBI shots. I like this Minnesota team. I don't think they're
08:40 going anywhere in the grand scheme of things in the American League but I
08:42 think early on what identified them is probably the team to beat in the Central
08:47 and they're playing like it now. 30-24 again after that lapse of a couple
08:50 really bad stretches on offense they seem to be correcting those issues.
08:55 The American League Central right now the best division in baseball based on records
08:59 of their top three teams. They have the White Sox that probably hold them back
09:03 in terms of the overall five team combined record in this division but the
09:08 only division in baseball that sees three teams that has a record two games
09:13 above 500 or better for all three. The American League East is close but the
09:18 Red Sox just one game above 500. The National League West three teams with two
09:23 games above 500 but the American League Central with the Twins now six games
09:27 above 500 in that third spot behind both KC and Cleveland. The Guardians
09:32 bounce back from a loss to the Rockies. Cleveland now has won 10 of its last 11.
09:38 13-7 yesterday over Colorado in Coors Field continuing to pace that
09:43 division. Now we go to Milwaukee where the Brewers in a celebration type of way
09:49 etched out a victory in their first game of the set in Craig Council's return to
09:55 Wisconsin. Yesterday it went to extras and Chicago was victorious as an
10:00 underdog. The Cubbies snapping a five-game losing skid with a 6-3 victory in 10.
10:05 Yeah by the way Brown had seven innings pitch no hits no earned runs 10 K's
10:10 pulled out of the game at 93. Why? Because that's just modern baseball so we're
10:14 trying to hold on there to get him a no-hitter. Weren't able to do that but
10:17 still picked up the victory in extras and also a couple plays across Major
10:20 League Baseball yesterday through an RBI hunter which didn't cost me any but Cody
10:24 Bellinger while that no-hitter was still intact stole a home run away from Willie
10:28 Adamas late in that game so something to keep an eye on. It's a good win for the
10:31 Cubs here and a great pitching performance by Brown and something we
10:34 always hate to see. A kid is dominant out there he's got six more outs to go like
10:37 93 if you go to 105 your baseball career just might end. Let the guy ride it out
10:43 enough of this. Ben Brown made great start yesterday 10 K's and did have that
10:49 perfect no-hitter through seven innings as DRS mentioned. Freddy Peralta on the
10:54 other side for Milwaukee 11 K's. You see a 6-3 final you're like okay game was 3-3
11:00 the Cubbies probably played it 3 in the top of the 10th. No we went to extras at
11:04 1-1 after a Willie Adamas game tying RBI single kind of in the bottom of the
11:11 ninth and then we saw a ton of runs make that as I do my quick math seven in
11:17 total in the 10th inning between the two sides. That can happen when you start
11:22 with a runner in scoring position. Speaking of low scoring games in
11:26 regulation the Giants win in extras yesterday as well but 1-0 in 10
11:33 innings. San Francisco has taken both of this opening series against the
11:38 Philadelphia Phillies stemming the hottest team in all of MLB. Luis Matos
11:43 RBI walk off fly out sac fly I believe it was 1-0 victory for the Giants
11:50 who again have won eight of their last ten. Yeah bullpen game for San Francisco
11:54 ended up beating Zach Wheeler who was tremendous yesterday six innings pitch
11:57 two hits no earned runs that should be good enough for a victory but the
12:00 Phillies sometimes play hide-and-seek on offense which they're hiding right now
12:04 they got to come out of that shell sooner than later here because Atlanta Braves as
12:08 much as banged up in the line they are they're getting a little bit closer to
12:11 the Phillies when that lead should possibly be ten games right now it's
12:14 half of that. The Phil's have lost three straight Atlanta won yesterday the Braves
12:20 still ten games above 531 and 21 just a five game difference as of this moment
12:27 around the National League East. We will reset where the markets stand in Major
12:31 League Baseball following Memorial Day weekend when we start our second hour
12:36 live right here on this Wednesday on Silverline up next on SportsCenter. We have said
12:41 often following Memorial Day weekend Major League Baseball puts a pin in its
12:46 season who are the true contenders who are some pretenders how do these teams
12:50 evaluate what the rest of the summer in 162 holds and can we get a true
12:56 assessment now about two months into this Major League Baseball season what
13:00 these teams actually look like we'll look at where the odds have moved in the
13:05 markets across the bigs in just a moment and then to round out this
13:10 second hour we're gonna have James Young our coach here for his scouting report
13:14 all around the NBA playoffs and we're gonna win with Zinn. Luis Hill on the
13:20 bump with the New York Yankees and Zinn ODRS he resides in Atlanta Georgia I
13:25 wonder if he has a pulse on how Braves fans feel following the big news of the
13:30 weekend at Ronald Acuna Jr. is out for the remainder of this season. Yeah game
13:35 changers should be the landscape of baseball in the National League
13:38 certainly affected by the injuries of the Atlanta Braves alone at this point
13:41 but good to have coach on this hour because usually on Tuesdays he sends me
13:45 a message hey man bigger Tuesday who do you think is going to be on your list
13:49 send it back one name. It's Juan Soto last night first at bat launch time out in Los
13:54 Angeles that one came in yesterday so if you're cashing tickets on Juan Soto
13:58 congratulations and also congratulations if you're Yankees fan who to me I do
14:02 believe Ben right now the best team in the American League so we got a lot of
14:06 talk about here in our number two a lot of good guests here and away we go. Yes
14:11 the Yankees maybe are the best team in the American League and Juan Soto did
14:14 lead off the game for the Yanks released in his first at bat the top of the first
14:18 with a home run but they did drop a game to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
14:23 yesterday at DRS's hometown to the Halos by the way speaking of Dinger Tuesday a
14:30 little birdie tells me our good friend Kevin Walsh on game time decisions gave
14:33 out both Soto to hit a long ball and Corey Seager big Dinger Tuesday on game
14:39 time decisions and that little birdie was telling me that there might be a
14:43 return to a former residence for Kevin Walsh tomorrow I mean the early line
14:49 wait on now to get confirmation what do you make huh you feel like it's a
14:55 reunion maybe back to Queens I mean his ever-loving dying support for the New
15:01 York Mets I mean what are we gonna talk about tomorrow for Kevin Walsh I don't
15:05 know if he's gonna make it to Citi Field today where the Mets are an underdog
15:08 against the Dodgers a little day baseball kind of 411 p.m. Eastern Time
15:13 there for New York we're expecting some thunderstorms later in the evening hours
15:18 here in the greater New York City area speaking of baseball let's reset where
15:23 the market stands following MD dub that's Memorial Day weekend the American
15:28 League pennant prices the New York Yankees are the favorites two to one
15:32 three dollars in front of the Baltimore Orioles despite the sluggish start and
15:37 the fact that Stroh's are seven games below 500 Houston still tied for the
15:42 third best price to win the American League pennant at plus 750 with the only
15:46 team in the American League West the Mariners that has a winning record
15:51 Seattle has won both of their opening two games of this midweek set against
15:55 Houston the twins six games above 530 and 24 fifth best price to win the
16:01 pennant at 8 to 1 in the American League just feels like a runaway right now for
16:06 the New York Yankees again as we wait for a Gary Cole to get back in that
16:09 rotation you know the Yankees are gonna make some moves around the trade deadline
16:12 but that plus 200 price is it great you know oh my goodness look at the value
16:16 here not necessarily because of what you could have gotten earlier in the
16:19 baseball season but when we talk about parity across Major League Baseball and
16:23 so many teams we think have a chance to win it I take a look at the American
16:26 League standings right now and also the odds market at the Vanderbilt Sportsbook
16:29 Ben and I say to myself it really seems like it's a two-team race and it's two
16:33 teams coming out of the AL East right now and the Yankees and the Baltimore
16:36 Orioles who I do think the Yankees had a two-to-one price and it was at a five to
16:39 one price are priced appropriately here I think the Yankees are the best team
16:43 right now and should be at that two to one number now again betting it and
16:46 seeing what perceived value would be but if I'm looking at the Yankees right now
16:49 far and away to me the best team in the American League because you're used to
16:53 seeing challenges all the Astros will be there maybe the the Rangers will show up
16:57 those two teams haven't shown me anything early this season the Yankees
17:00 have shown me something so right now as we take a look post Memorial Day I think
17:04 it's the Yankees in a runaway right now I completely agree with the Vanderbilt
17:08 Sportsbook at this price. Technically the best record in the American League is
17:13 the Cleveland Guardians 37 and 18 both the Yanks and the Guardians have 37
17:18 wins but New York now with 19 losses and they have dropped two straight
17:22 yesterday against the Angels so when you look at the American League then
17:28 could you make an argument for Cleveland at a ten to one number six best price on
17:33 the Guardians the reigning World Series champs the Rangers 12 to 1 those are the
17:38 seven best numbers to win the American League pennant why do I bring that up
17:41 all seven teams at 12 to 1 have a better price to win their respective league
17:46 than the team in the National League with the fourth best number and at the
17:50 moment as we show you those odds once again that's the Milwaukee Brewers who
17:55 are pacing the National League Central at this moment but the story DRS even
17:59 with the injuries to Atlanta is still that two or three atop the National
18:04 League the Dodgers the Phillies and the Braves all three teams at four to one or
18:10 less Atlanta is still a quarter of the price of Milwaukee with the Brew crew at
18:15 16 to one number yeah there are some you know numbers to look at but we've always
18:20 thought it was going to be the big three and you're right Dodgers Phillies Braves
18:23 in that order probably the way it should be even though I do think the Phillies
18:26 based on this last three games you're gonna win a lot of games you're gonna
18:30 lose some games same way the Dodgers who we think are so powerful they go on a
18:34 streak where they can't even hit a baseball or score any runs and losing
18:36 games you see them snap back yesterday the Phillies will do the same thing so I
18:40 think the Dodgers in the Phillies really neck-and-neck in price point for me at
18:43 this point the Atlanta Braves still getting a lot of respect because they're
18:46 gonna win baseball games because they're good organization lose a Cy Young
18:49 pitcher lose an MVP got to start if you're light up in a coon yeah that is
18:52 going to hurt but still the semblance of a good baseball team and not much around
18:56 them to challenge talking about like the New York Mets early the Marlins at this
18:59 point or the Washington Nationals they're by far that second place team
19:03 here right behind the Phillies but when you go down that list like the Brewers
19:06 you have a lot of faith in them they're an okay team they're gonna win baseball
19:10 games and they'll do what they have to the Cubs here with that one two punch
19:13 that they could have at the top of the lineup at 21 is intriguing but also you
19:17 take a look at the other 22 ones there it's the Diamondbacks and the Padres two
19:21 teams that I'm not saying pedigrees where they're supposed to win national
19:24 championships but you do see the semblance of what they did last year can
19:28 you get lightning in a bottle which I don't think you really need because the
19:30 Dimebacks are good team just not playing like it and even though the Padres you
19:34 know in the offseason say well who did we lose at this point well we lost a
19:38 really good pitcher and obviously Juan Soto made a trade for they still have
19:41 very good players on that team so those are the teams I want to watch out for
19:44 that 20 to 1 price point with maybe a chance to challenge in the National
19:48 League is the one thing that we do know is the regular season is one thing the
19:51 players are completely different out of where the favorites just don't advance
19:54 like they do typically in the NBA right here to your basis those teams down
19:59 there 20 to 1 I have my eye on that but it really the Braves nice price at 4 to
20:04 1 not interested the Phillies and the Dodgers should be the leaders and maybe
20:07 some of those other teams in the NOS could do some damage if they get to the
20:10 playoffs I do want to say though right because of the MLB updated postseason
20:16 format six teams three wildcards three division winners top two seeds in each
20:21 league and you have to win your division to be in consideration do get that
20:26 opening round by past the best of three wildcard series the Brewers have a
20:31 strong lead in the National League Central a 16 to 1 price although you
20:35 might not be able to cash that ticket we've seen craziness in the postseason
20:39 format the last few years the number is going to be shorter if the Brewers win
20:44 the National League Central and maybe get that by as the number two seed or
20:49 whatever in the National League playoff format just something to keep in mind
20:54 now let's look at the awards markets that we showed you yesterday one soda
20:58 the favorite to win the AL MVP at plus 260
21:02 Tariq scuba the favorite to win the American League Cy Young Award at plus
21:05 270 scuba for Detroit at home the Tigers against Jared Jones the
21:10 outstanding rookie for the Pittsburgh Pirates the first game on the slate on
21:13 this Wednesday yeah by the way you take a look at some of those price points
21:17 there also and some guys that you're not used to seeing us to talk about Cy Young
21:20 Tariq scuba hey welcome to the ballgame and also Mason Miller has been
21:23 absolutely outrageous for the athletics being a closer seemingly striking
21:27 everybody out it's a fun race because there's a lot of names on there that
21:30 maybe you're not used to actually saying which is great for betting purposes and
21:34 we showed you the nationally odds yesterday Mookie bets the favorite just
21:38 a little bit in front of show hey Oh
