On Monday 15 April in Rimini, in the heart of the Motor Valley, Maserati brings together the press and industry insiders for the long-awaited Folgore Day. The event is taking place on the 110th anniversary of the Modena-based manufacturer: the Trident’s narrative is rich in commercial and racing successes – these have included the creation of some of the most iconic cars in the history of international motoring and many wins in high-level motorsport. Folgore Day officially marks the brand’s entry into the new electric dimension, where the Folgore range is ready to dominate and represent the Brand’s future around the world.
A journey of electrification, innovation, luxury and excellence in the best Italian tradition, on which Maserati has embarked in the last year with the launch of its 100% electric models: GranTurismo Folgore, the Trident’s first all-electric car; Grecale Folgore, the first SUV powered by a full-electric powertrain; and now, GranCabrio Folgore, the elegant and refined open-top version of its award-winning grand tourer sister, to be launched at the event. On top of these, the MC20 Folgore super sports car, set to debut in 2025.
By 2028, the entire Trident range will have been fully electrified, as announced by Maserati in early 2024 when it shared its long-term strategic vision, including a growth plan aimed at sustainable profitability further into the future, with the focus on the constant evolution of the brand and its products. In this scenario, the Trident range continues to be entirely designed, developed, and produced in Italy, with Modena and the historic plant on Viale Ciro Menotti remaining the crux of this challenging new era of mobility.

00:30Hello everyone. Hello, welcome to Italy for those of you who have traveled. Irresistible,
00:45spectacular, sophistication, gorgeous, most beautiful. Those are words that some of you
00:54or your colleagues around the world have used to describe either the Grecale or the Gran
00:59Turismo. My favorite one, a sculptural masterpiece. Why? Because for us at Centro Sile Maserati
01:08the journey to electrification started eight years ago. Eight years ago we had one of these
01:13days, what if, which is our responsibility to always play with the future. What if we
01:20go electric? What if sound will be different? We watched a video of a Maserati A6 GCS 1954
01:29going through the streets of Brescia and we decided to reduce the sound just to 10%. And
01:36it was a goose bump moment because suddenly your senses were not overloaded with visual
01:41and audible senses. You could really focus on that beautiful shape going through the
01:45streets. And we knew exactly what we had to do is create a rolling sculpture. Maybe
01:51that's easier said than done. But thanks to the work of our friends in Modena, thanks
01:56to the work of Davide Lanzini, we were blessed with incredible proportion, which is the foundation
02:02of this sculpture. And the important thing is it's not the foundation that maybe you
02:07hear a lot of my colleagues sometimes speak about when we say we moved forward the A post
02:12by 10 millimeter. Not those proportions. The fundamental proportion that are derived
02:18from performance. With the centrally arranged battery on the Gran Turismo here behind me,
02:26we were able to maintain very low seats, very low sleek profile and great dash to axle.
02:36The second part that we used to create this beautiful sculpture is a lot of topography
02:43in the shape. And that goes all the way back, all the 110 years of our brand born from racing.
02:50Celebrating this part of our history. Meaning before we went to the road, our cars were
02:57open wheelers. They had this central fuselage starting from the grill, from the tridenta
03:02encompassing the cockpit. So what do we have to make to make the car road legal? We had
03:08to cover the wheels and add lights and to create these sculptural shapes. This goes
03:13all the way back since 1947 when we started building road cars. And of course it all starts
03:19with this low mouth, these higher range lights. This is something that you carry with us.
03:24And that's part of our tradition. Almost like Gustav Mahler said, tradition for us is not
03:29celebrating the ashes but carrying the fire. And that's what we're doing. Carrying some
03:35of the carefully selected elements of our past. And it all starts with this face of
03:40Maserati with the tridenta. Because the tridenta is not just a logo. It's the weapon of a mythical
03:47god. But maybe for those of you who have seen Nettuno in Bologna, you see he's not using
03:53the weapon to attack you. He's actually holding it almost behind his body. Suggesting this
03:59is really a logo of confidence. All these elements combined allow us to create very,
04:09very sophisticated, clean and purified shapes. We're not relying on decorative lines that
04:17age very quickly and can really, truly create timeless design. Now, some of the more specific
04:26details. Of course, you still need cooling in the front. Batteries want to be cooled.
04:31The engine wants it. The machines want to be cooled. But we need less cooling. But we
04:36still need it in the same place. So we decided not to create a faceless car like we see from
04:40a lot of start-ups. We still want to play with this Maserati face and not make it a
04:47visual choice for our customer. Is it a more beautiful ICE or is it a more beautiful electric?
04:54You get a true Maserati face with the Folgare Gran Turismo and the Grecale. And all we had
05:01to do is invert the grill. You see that behind me. One side you see the Trofeo. A lot of
05:06air coming in. And for the Folgare, all we had to do is invert the idea and you still
05:11have the cooling required for our batteries and the motors. The wheels, they carry two
05:18messages. Number one is they're optimized for aerodynamics, for range. But at the same
05:23time, they still carry this idea of tridentity, this incredible icon I just spoke about earlier.
05:30Because you see it in the wheel design of all of our cars, but also in the electric
05:34that we always play with this idea of how can we visualize, bring this icon of the trident
05:39around the car to really carry the message of our brand. When it came to colors, we looked
05:47at copper. Copper as a color of electrification of performance, which became really the hero
05:52color not only for the two cars you see here, but really for the Folgare range. And then
05:59the Aurora Borealis as an inspiration for metamorphosis, this idea of transition from
06:05the combustion times to electrification. And that translates very nicely into the interior.
06:13You see these flowing patterns really coming from the stimulus of the Aurora Borealis,
06:17this kind of transition and these beautiful flowing shapes. But most importantly about
06:22the interior, it really plays with this idea, what we call balance of the opposites. Combining
06:29impeccable craftsmanship with state of the art technology. Personally, I'm not the biggest
06:36fan of screens, but you need them. There's so much function in a modern car that you
06:40would overload the car with mechanical switches. But what we do, we put the screen in a point
06:46of the car where you can effortlessly reach it by just letting your hand fall from the
06:51steering wheel, not blocking your side of view, not blocking you with constant visual
06:56distraction because our cars are about hands on the wheel, eyes on the road and really
07:01about enjoying the drive. Talking about some of these technological details, it can be
07:08the aforementioned Sonos Faber system. For three years in a row, which no other company
07:13has accomplished, we won best sound system. First with the MC20 in Cello, then with the
07:19Grecale and then with the Gran Turismo. Three years in a row together with our partners
07:24at Sonos Faber. The clock, we maintained the clock, but we took it to the next level. We
07:29added digital features and we allow you to customize these features to your liking. And
07:35then every detail is important, like even those little wheels to use to operate the
07:40AC outlets. Let's take a quick look into the rear compartment because for both cars, those
07:47are cars you can easily sit for adults, whether it's the Grecale or the Gran Turismo. Incredible
07:53space and this detail that you see behind me is another beautiful detail that we actually
07:57took from the luxury industry. Electro-welded leather details, again with this beautiful
08:02metamorphosis pattern. Let me actually end on my favorite detail, which again is this
08:10beautiful pattern that we have on the seat. Now the seat is not leather. Leather is available,
08:16but we felt we wanted to take it to the next level. So we're introducing for the first
08:20time in an automobile, not just Maserati, the first time in an automobile, a material
08:25made of recycled nylon. Now when you recycle nylon in contrast to recycled plastic, you
08:31get a really beautiful silky material. And then we're using parametric design for this
08:37metamorphosis pattern and laser etching to actually create this pattern. Again, an innovation
08:43that you will find first and only at a Maserati. And even though you could consider it a small
08:49detail, for me, it shows what we're about. We're born from racing and you cannot win
08:55a race if you stop innovating. And with these vehicles, we continue to innovate. Thank you
09:00very much.
